My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine.
I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.

I am 20 years old female and I wet my bed (urinate) at night sometimes. Can you suggest any logical explanation for this problem? I do not have any other health problems.
today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well.
Any new ideas or anyone with same prob please help.
Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating.

DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
The liquid part is easy, we're mostly liquid. The hard part is why this is happening, and the only advice I can give is, if your urologist isn't helping get a better urologist. At your age, you should be able to drink anything at any time and not do this, although when we get old both men and women can have this problem. So something is wrong, but as to what, can't say. Many people have weak bladders for many different reasons, but for most it means they have to go a lot.
I tried Effexor for only three days when it was given to me to treat migraines and I couldn't tolerate the side effects. Don't remember now what all they were- just that it was intolerable for me. It wasn't given to me for POTS- it was before I was diagnosed with POTS I tried it.
If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried.

The doctor said that because his prescription is so severe, he wants him to wear the glasses all the time and to cover his good eye with a patch for 8 hours a day for a year and half at least, which it bothers him tremendously. Any other suggestion in this matter?
How do I get my son to wear the patch? and do you think it is too early for an astigmatism to be detected? Will his vision benefit from the glasses and the patch? Any advice on how to get him used to them?
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced diabetes insipidus? The reason for the test is because I have been extremely thirsty and urinating almost every 1.5 hours a day. I received a copy of the test results. They tested my ADH level (arginine vasopressin) The results are L<1.0 Range:1.0-13.3
They say there are different types of diabetes insipidus, basically that the kidneys are not doing what they are supposed to do or a pituitary issue.
I have took her to the doctors, she prescribed mas been taking which she has been on for a year now. No improvement! When I first took her in, I was concerned because of the large amounts and the very strong odor it causes along with inflammation to the surrounding skin. All urine test came back fine ( urine sample). However she had no reason why the odor was so bad. I even had our well water tested and it was fine.
My Endo wants me to do a biopsy, but I am concerned as I have Von Willenbrands Factor VIII deficiency, and had a bleeding problem in July from a deep tooth scaling (which probably was made worse by going to a dental surgeoun after who probably dug deeper) and I ended up on Amacar for 10 days and two rounds of Desmopressin IVs. I have testing lab for my thyroid since 1995 and all results have come in " normal" range. meanwhile i was diagnosed 10yrs ago with pituitary microadenoma on CT- Scan with high blood levels of FSH LH TESTO. I was taking cabergoline for 10 yrs but I still feel bad. I have a swinging mood some times hyperexcited but mostly tired, constipation, right rib and colon pain and pimples on my back. my skin is dried since childhood with recurrent hair folliculitis and athlete foot for 25 years.
We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
It would have been better to start a new thread but... why are they not treating him for the high prolactin? Is he on dostinex or parlodel?
The pituitary tumor would impact his personality - it needs to be treated. A neuro-endo is better so glad you are going that route. Once you have a pit tumor, TSH is usually invalid - often it drops so it seems he may also have a thyroid issue. T4 I find is rather useless. I like free T3 and Free T4 as they reflect what the thyroid is doing.
