Avatar n tn My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar n tn Atorvastatin is supposed to be one of the two most effective statins in lowing cholesterol so you are on a good one. Bioavailability is how well a med is absorbed and used by the body and bioavailability varies among the statins. It's actually a desired thing. The liver is the target organ so if it is slowed down in the liver (where this happens), it's in the target organ. But honestly, that is hard for me to understand.
Avatar f tn t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine. I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.
Avatar n tn talk to your doctor about desmopressin, it works.
Avatar n tn today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well. Any new ideas or anyone with same prob please help.
Avatar m tn Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating. This discussion is related to peuatrygland diabetts.
Avatar m tn Although a standard meal did not affect ribavirin bioavailability (F1), administration of ribavirin with a high-fat meal increased bioavailability by 46% relative to the fasting state. A high-fat meal prolonged the duration of the zero-order input part of the absorption model, with D1 increasing from 0.498 h (fasting and standard meal) to 0.740 h. The type of meal also influenced the first-order input part of the absorption model (Table 1).
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn When a medication is administered intravenously, its bioavailability is 100%. However, when a medication is administered orally, its bioavailability decreases because not all of it is absorbed. So 70% bioavailability means that, from the dose you took, 70% of it reached systemic circulation. "Two studies have been carried out to assess the effect of food (ie, a high-fat breakfast) on the bioavailability of a SINGLE oral dose of ribavirin. An initial study by ICN Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Avatar f tn Also as a side note, Opana oral bioavailability is actually very low. Lower than morphine I believe the bioavailability is around 10 percent. However, if you reach your optimal dose, bioavailability matters little. I see that this post is from October 2011. But since I have this typed, I'll post anyway :) Good luck and gentle hugs.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Also best not to take drugs with lots of fiber as they can bind to the fiber and pass through the system before total absorption thus decreasing bioavailability. You need all the bioavailability you can get!.
Avatar f tn Blood tests are not accurate for testing the active bioavailability of sex hormones in the cells and tissues. They only test what's in the blood stream. They aren't accurate for testing when a patient is using bioidentical topical creams. I've had two holistic doctors tell me this and have read numerous articles about which testing is correct depending on which type of hormones you're taking.
Avatar n tn The ascorbate in Ferrous Ascorbate helps retardation or prevention of Fe(II) oxidation by ascorbate and to the existence of Fe(II) as a chelate with ascorbate ( vitamin C if you like ). Ferrous Ascrorbate will have a better bioavailability but you can add a vitamin C and vitamins B complex with sodium feredetate and have pretty good results. Depending on your needs; are you lacking iron? anemia?

Avatar m tn If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried. Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.

Dinosaur Thank you for your question, Yes, it is recommended you take it in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food. Taking levothyroxine with food may cause reduced bioavailability and may lower drug levels leading to signs or symptoms of hypothyroidism. In addition, cottonseed meal, walnuts, and dietary fiber may decrease absorption of levothyroxine from the GI tract.
Avatar m tn Often I’ve had twitching in various parts of my body, even my eyelid, and after taking a magnesium supplement (Magnesium citrate is one of the best and has very good bioavailability; Magnesium Oxide is not recommended because of its very poor bioavailability!), my twitches stopped within a day! It’s easy to find on Amazon. I only mention these things because it is common to have low Vitamin D as well as low Magnesium. I hope your husband is feeling better soon.
