On those days (when he takes two puffs) he only goes to the bathroom 4-5 times the whole day, which is great because I can take him places and get him out of the house. Does anyone know or take Desmopressin more often than one time a day??? If so how many times?? Any information would be helpful!!
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin) is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. ADH deficiency is known as diabetes insipidus. Symptoms are frequent thirst and urination. Treatment is desmopressin (synthetic replacement for vasopressin) - taken 2 to 3 times a day.
I guess your vet is suggesting using the DDAVP (Desmopressin) inhaler as eyedrops. From what I can tell, this stuff runs about $78 a bottle (less if you get more than one bottle).
I am kind of confused as to why you are being prescribed DAVPP for nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, because that's usually prescribed for CENTRAL Diabetes Insipidus, caused when the pituitary gland doesn't secrete enough ADH.
I am 6 weeks post op after a transphenoidal pituitary resection of a non functioning non secreting pituitary macroadenoma (2mm). I still have diabetes insipidus and almost zero testosterone. I have to resume work in a week and feel so so tired. How long did it take for your diabetes insipidus to resolve? how long did it take for your doctor to prescribe testosterone? My endo refuses to prescribed the testosterone as he says that should recover by itself, however I am exhausted all day.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced diabetes insipidus? The reason for the test is because I have been extremely thirsty and urinating almost every 1.5 hours a day. I received a copy of the test results. They tested my ADH level (arginine vasopressin) The results are L<1.0 Range:1.0-13.3
They say there are different types of diabetes insipidus, basically that the kidneys are doing what they are supposed to do or a pituitary issue.
But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug.

Diabetes insipidus(water diabetes) is due to a hormone lacking that helps us hold onto water, these children will urinate excessively, drink excessively, lose weight and be sick with high sodiums, there is a form due to the pituitary hormone lacking and that which is due to the kidney not responding to the normal hormone.
It does not sound like repeated fevers alone is diabetes insipidus.

I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms.

If the levels are so low and potassium levels are high maybe a creatinine clearance test should be done to test the condition of the kidney and rule out diabetes insipidus. CPK or creatinine phosphokinase and liver enzymes should be done if there is muscle wasting. Diabetes insipidus can also cause whole body edema. Please consult an endocrine specialist and a nephrologist. Take care!

Does anyone else have secondary hypothyroidism following their surgery?
God knows the Acromegaly aftermath was bad enough to sort out with Dr. Now this to deal with. She's just done my bloods. Should she test TRH as well masTSH, T3 and T4 in this case or am I wrong?
No guidance from consultan,t who eventually diagnosed the thyroid damage, only to begin taking 50 mcg of Thyroxine. Taking this at 5 am to avoid absorption problems.

Does he seem to drink water constantly and cannot go anywhere without water? If so, it could be diabetes insipidus, which is VERY different than diabetes mellitis (Type 1 or Type 2).
If not, then it could be a number of things, such as an enlarged prostrate or something else impinging on the bladder and creating a sensation of needing to go, even if the bladder is empty. It could be a problem with the nerves or muscles that connect to and control the bladder.
Could both of these issues, Diabetes Insipidus and lack of growth, be something more and maybe I should bring something up at his 2 yr appt in a month? The doc does want to retest for the DS but it was hard enough not giving him anything to drink for 12 hours espcially at bedtime when he brings 2 sippy's to bed with him when he was first tested in the spring.
I too have DI but i take desmopressin and hydrocortizone daily. I found if I break the 20mg desmopressin into quarters I do better. The 5mg just didn't seem to work for me. I take it morning and night and other than a 10lb weight gain I have not had any side affects. If I don't take enough I feel fatigued and if I take to much my weight goes up but when the dose was decreased the bulk of the weight came off.

My diabetes insipidus is controversial. One doctor says that I have central diabetes insipidus and others, eg. the latest urologist, say that I do not have it.
Because doctors did not search the cause years ago, I think that it is not important. The condition has been intermittent for many years and thus may not be serious.
I have had only a couple of bladder infections during my 65-year life, thus infections may not be causes for it. I have uterine issues, myomas and endometrial overgrowth.
This can also be the result of diseases like diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. Heart, liver and kidney failure and also certain medications cause excessive thirst.
Some people with severe acidity too develop a habit of drinking water to counteract the effect of acidity
In your case, probably chronic diarrhea has precipitated increased thirst. Chronic diarrhea can be due to parasitic infestations.
