Avatar n tn * antibiotics DO decrease the effect of any birth control, whether it is oral, topical, or by injection. * bleeding can and does occur during pregnancy, and esp. w/ Depo * pregnancy can and does occur during Depo, and can cause some defects to growing fetus * DEPO CAN DECREASE THE HCG LEVELS There are many more side effects you can experience, so please go to the site and read the facts, not the rumors you hear. www.depoprovera.
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn Well, had the first Depo-Provera shot today. Hopefully my body adjusts alright and this helps with keeping the endo at bay. Has anyone used the Depo for endometriosis? What kind of experiences did you have? I'm kinda curious, but also thinking that maybe I jumped into the waters before seeing if there were sharks. :) (To reiterate, I was given three choices: oral BC, Depo, or Lupron. Opted against the Lupron for the vast scary side effects.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar f tn Hello there, It is unusual to get pregnant while taking Depo-Provera regularly, but pregnancies might occur before the shot is given and may go unrecognized . Depo-Provera should not be used during pregnancy. In women being exposed to Depo vera in early pregnancy there is little or no increased risk of birth defects .You may need regular follow ups and monitoring .Discuss it with your doctor. She knows your medical records best. I sincerely hope it helps. Best regards!
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn I totally agree. No amount of exercises worked. Myself and thin friends gained more than the heavy friends. I think some people are hormonally imbalanced and are heavy because of that. I was abnormally "Barbie Thin" until Depo. It is the hormone that kicks in during pregnancy and causes you to hold on to water and fat, a primitive survival tactic for the life preservation of the fetus.
Avatar n tn It can take 12-18 months for Depo Provera to be completely out of your system. But probably much less since you only had once shot.
Avatar n tn htm Depo-Provera is not given to pregnant women. If an unexpected pregnancy occurs 1 to 2 months after a Depo-Provera injection, the baby is more likely to have a low birth weight or other health problems....(goes on, but it's long) I was using google.com and my search was "depo provera while pregnant".
Avatar n tn I was not sexually active during this time. Now, my DH and I want to have a child and I am afraid depo may have ruined my chances (or could be a contributing factor), I still have the cysts. I don't know and can't prove all of this is due to the shot, but I wanted to share my experience with you. Good luck, and I hope you are feeling better soon. Depo can cause some women to bleed a lot, so maybe things will calm down when it wears off.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Depo-provera for 10 years. I'm 27 now and have been married for 2 years. My next one is due on the 14th Feb 2012 the only time i have bleed was when I had cell's removed after another bad 'smear' test. I really want a baby my husband has 5 kids but we dont see them much (not out of choice!) Iam really scared now that I'm not going to be able to have a baby and wont beable to be the wife I want to be....
Avatar n tn The Depo-Provera is still in your system. It puts your body in a false state of pregnancy, thus the weight gain and bloated abdomen. What ever you do, DO NOT GO BACK ON DEPO PROVERA! There is more weight gain the second time around, and harder to loose. Remember: No Salt,no Sugar,no booze except for occasional red wine (3 Carbs),no fake sugar like splenda, xylotol or any other fake sugar by any name, bread, chocolate, doughnuts, pizza, bagels, carbs including vegetables (yes I said it!
Avatar f tn My question is why is my bleeding not stopping completely on provera although its been 2 weeks i started taking them and the bleeding is moderate during the dayt and light during the night, I am soaking 2 to 3 pads per day .. Can I stop taking provera and start combination OC pills to stop the bleeding ? will it help me..I am having lot of tiredness and fatigue due to bleeding so long ..please advise and help me..thanks much!
Avatar n tn I was on provera in Dec 05 and Jan 06 and I now am 9 weeks pregnant. Provera used to be given as a pregnancy test. If you took it and had a period then you were not pregnant and if you took it and didnt have a period then you were pregnant. Provera or the generic that you are talking of is pretty much progesterone and it will help your uterus. Dont worry it wont harm a pregnancy. Best of luck!
6473074 tn?1381623459 Thursday (October 10) I was given the surprise of a lifetime when I went into my primary for one problem and walked out with another. I had been placed on the Depo-Provera shot the same day I had miscarried my (now) second child. I was only around 9 weeks along (both times) so despite being devastated I had for some time expected that might be the end result.
Avatar m tn I just recieved my first Depo Provera shot in dec 07, i did have my period january and feburary. I am 5 days late this month . I took a pregnancy test yesterday it came up negative. Is it possible i could still be pregnant? My Husband and i are not trying to concieve so i dont know what to think im still trying to enjoy my lil one!!!
Avatar n tn One comment did mention its classed as a phantom pregnancy and it is a side effect of the depo.
Avatar n tn When I was on depo, I had to get the doctor to give me a pill called provera (completely different then depo provera) to jump start your period. Good luck to you!!
Avatar n tn I was on the depo provera shot for a little over 13 years with no periods. I have been off of the shot since October 2006. In January, my periods started back, however, I have bright red blood frequently, and almost always HUGE blood clots. Sometimes I can feel myself pushing them out. My period has been on since January, with the exception of maybe two to three weeks. I am afraid that I am or will be anemic or worse soon if the bleeding doesn't stop.
Avatar f tn i also have a watery discharge during my period. it is clear and odorless. even if there is very little blood on my tampon, it soaks through and leaks through my pad and clothing as well. recently, i have been having less liquid blood and more clots, with a lot of the watery discharge. i have three solid days of going through both a tampon and pad within an hour. i also have severe backache and cramping, and just generally feel ill, which i realize could be just normal period stuff.
Avatar f tn Depo-Provera is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar n tn Hello I am an OB nurse, so all I can give you is a reasonable reassurance that if you still had enough endometrium to support a pregnancy past the first trimester, you should be ok. Now, given that your endometrium is most definately not normal, I am sure they will follow you very closely for signs that the pregnancy is developing normally.
Avatar f tn Just to add on my comment on May 23, 2008. I had my fibroid surgery 2 years ago and trying to get preg after got better from the surgery but no luck. I think HSG played a big role on positive preg test result. Just an opinion...Who knows!
667829 tn?1297981723 swelling is unbelievable. I have high blood pressure which has mostly been controlled during pregnancy (had it since age 27) its creeping up - dosage was doubled four weeks ago. i have gestational diabetes since 14 weeks controlled by insulin (I was pre-diabetic before getting pregnant). i have swelling in my hands and feet but my weekly nst / urine / blood tests are not indicating pre-e (yet).
Avatar n tn What are the chances of being 9 weeks along and still getting a negative on home pregnancy tests? Would the Depo Lupron have an affect on the level of hormones produced in my body or the test results? I know there is a possibility of your mind "tricking" your body into thinking that you are pregnant, but the fact that this "feeling" has spanned over 2 months, I'm a little skeptical of that being the case.
Avatar n tn The doc said I could only wait and test again (she suggested a week), but although not having seen it an awful lot, did know of someone who had never tested positive during her pregnancy (I think it's only the first trimester that the hormones are meant to be present). She didn't test me again, as said that the tests available in shops were probably even more reliable than the ones she had. She also thought that six days late was probably still quite early really.
Avatar n tn This is my second cycle on it. My first try, I had a very good response with no pregnancy outcome. My second one didn't go so well. I had a lot of follicles but my doctor didn't think that any would get big enough for me to ovulate. So, I believed that this month nothing was going to happen. Two weeks later ( on cycle day 23) I had signs that I was going to ovulate so I used a ovulation test and it surged. I have been having cramps and nausea a week after the surge.
