Dandruff can be due to internal or external causes. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition.
External causes include excessive use of hair sprays and gels, improper use of hair-coloring products, cold weather and dry indoor heating, infrequent shampooing of the hair or inadequate rinsing of the scalp and hair.

I am an Indian female and got long hair, i got relocated to America 5 months back and for past thre months my hair are in a bad condition i m experiencing severe hairfall, i got a little bit of dandruff and i use dandruff shampoo and conditioner twice or thrice a week,I use herbal essence shampoo n conditioner,
But my hair are gettting worse day by day, i m experienceing handful of hair everytime i comb and when i wash my hair, the condition is worst.

I have never had dandruff before. The flakes are pretty big and there is this one spot where if i go to scratch my scalp it always bleeds. I have tried changing shampoos and washing my hair with cold water instead of hot but nothing has made it go away. I notice a reduction in flakes the day i shower but after that it gets worse. Im not sure if i should see a doctor or not. What could it be?
I started off with an itchy scalp about 4-5 weeks ago - i then noticed i had some dandruff - i wasn't too concerned intil i found myself itching quite a lot - ive had dandruff before and it generally goes soon enough and doesn't cause too much itching. Anyway i started to become paranoid thinking i had lice - as my cousins were visiting i thought perhaps i had got lice from one of them. However nobody was itching but me.

There are several causes of your symptons. Infections, eczema, psoriasis, etc. The best option is to go to a dermatologist. They will look to the harden flakes and exam your scalp and will prescribe something to heal.

For such symptoms which can be due to severe dandruff or adult cradle cap, eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription).
I'll be honest here. I masturbated 4 years and I feel like i lost essential fluids which are causing hair loss now. But now I don't masturbate, I am keeping my diet healthy. Please consult a hematologist if iron deficiency is detected. Hair loss can also be due to dandruff, dermatitis, shampoos, oils, soaps, dust and dirt etc. Thyroid disorders and diabetes too could be a cause. Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause.
