After 5 months of this therapy, the patient developed membranous nephropathy. Complete remission of his nephrotic syndrome was achieved after 1 year of cyclosporine and corticosteroid therapy. During this same period, his chronic viral hepatitis B was controlled by entecavir. To our knowledge, this is the first case in which membranous nephropathy developed during pegylated interferon ?-2a therapy for chronic hepatitis B.

With this, one has to check for the presence of hematuria or red blood cells in the urine, your blood pressure and total cholesterol levels. Nephrotic syndrome is a primary differential here. Was your kidney function assessed ( BUN and creatinine levels determined?).
With the back pain, several differentials also need to be ruled out. This includes musculoskeletal pain, arthritc pain and an underlying spinal cord condition. Chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia should also be considered.
Seven patients, of whom five were hepatitis C positive, developed renal function impairment long after transplantation, as well as de novo nephrotic syndrome (n = 5), severe hypertension (n = 5), nephritic syndrome (n = 1), and increased serum creatinine (n = 1). and the vet will probably prescribe cyclosporine drops to help the eye produce more tears. Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet.
Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs.

Frothy urine seems to be associated with increased protein levels in the urine ( as in nephrotic syndrome).Some have associated this with calcium levels and gallblader disease.As for the first question, at this point we can not definitely tell that the antibiotics made your urine frothy. However drugs are metabolized by the liver and kidney and are excreted in the urine.
Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...

I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis.
Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms.
If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
I think it would depend upon the type of symptoms one is having.
If it is a sleep disorder (RLS/PLMD) - I have found that Trazadone works well.
For neuropathy and other sensations I had relief with both Cymbalta and Lyrica. The only downside to the Lyrica was difficulty with cognition and drowsiness.
Savella (milnacipran) is the new medication and it works much the same as Cymbalta...it is an antidepressant.
As uk2 mentioned, the patches help with pain as well.
As long as one of the barriers is impaired or damaged, protein will leak into urine and thus form proteinuria. For people with Nephrotic Syndrome, large amounts of protein spill and into urine just because of damaged glomerular filtration membrane. Without effective charge barrier and mechanical barrier, glomerular filtration membrane can not stop protein passing through.
Have them check for protein loss in your urine this might cause those symptoms instead of GI? There is a disease called Nephrotic Syndrome. This usually has edema (swelling in the feet, ankles, around eyes. However you could have vomiting and weight gain as well. Just a shot in the dark. I'm not in the medical profession, so please don't take this to heart, this is just something to read about. Don't be scared to come right out and ask your DR what he/she is checking you for.

The symptoms of swollen face and gain in body weight in a child may be due to allergy, hypothyroidism, kidney problems or as a side effect to steroids. The first signs of nephrotic syndrome are puffy eyelids and a swollen face.
You should consult a pediatrician. A careful history taking, physical examination and laboratory studies (thyroid profile, urinalysis and serum albumin) would help reach the correct diagnosis so that appropriate therapy can be initiated.

On the other hand these clotting disorders can be acquired in certain disease states like cancer (so this needs to be re-checked), obesity, lupus, antiphospolipid syndrome, nephrotic syndrome, heart disease, polycythemia vera, side effects of medications, and IBS—to name a few. I know that you said that your dog has been on cyclosporine in the past for the treatment of KCS, however has she ever used a product called 'Optimmune"? It's a preparation that contains cyclosporine but it's different from the cyclosporine drops.
When eyedrop preparations to treat KCS are made up, they have stabilizers put in so that they don't lose their potency too quickly before the whole preparation can be used.
