Avatar f tn Hi ! Wow... I had no idea that cyclosporine has been prescribed for various autoimmune diseases and even allergies ! I think it is a shame that many of these wonderful drugs (steriods... Valcyte.... cyclosporine) are immunosuppressants and can have terrible side effects. I'm happy to hear that researchers are working hard to find cures for these conditions and that they are concerned about the rising numbers of people who have these autoimmune problems.
Avatar f tn Hi When topical corticosteroids do not provide relief, sometimes more the doctor may consider prescribing some more potent corticosteroids for some period, in adults with may be needed for adults with eczema on the scalp, limbs, and trunk or those with chronic/ lichenified eczema. Newer two topical eczema drugs like pimecrolimus (Elidel Cream) and tacrolimus (Protopic Ointment) are reserved only for cases where corticosteroids have not been effective.

Avatar m tn and the vet will probably prescribe cyclosporine drops to help the eye produce more tears. Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet. Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs. Best Wishes for you and your dog.....
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis. Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms. If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
624829 tn?1240755671 Sometimes oral corticosteroids and immunosuppressants like cyclosporine and phototherapy are used for resistant cases. Since you are having intense itching, your doctor may prescribe some sedative-antihistaminics to reduce itching. You may discuss about these treatment options with your doctor. Besides you should take certain measures like avoiding irritants like perfumes and detergents, keep the skin hydrated by regularly using moisturizer.
Avatar n tn I am a 15 year old male and I had part of a birthmark cut out off my calf in January, in August it got infected and started to ooze yellow stuff, which dried up into yellow crusts.
Avatar n tn Eczema diagnosis is generally based on the clinical appearance and a few tests like the patch test and blood levels of IgE antibodies and eosinophils. A specific test for eczema is called the Radioallergosorbent Test (RAST), which is also done in some cases. Skin rashes are diagnosed clinically based on the history and appearance of the rash. You should consult a skin specialist for proper clinical examination.
Avatar m tn Could taking less ursodiol have contributed to my diminishing symptoms. What would be the lest acceptable through cyclosporine level for a patient on mono -therapy four and one half years post transplant with no episodes of rejection? Thank you so very much Dr.
Avatar m tn I know that you said that your dog has been on cyclosporine in the past for the treatment of KCS, however has she ever used a product called 'Optimmune"? It's a preparation that contains cyclosporine but it's different from the cyclosporine drops. When eyedrop preparations to treat KCS are made up, they have stabilizers put in so that they don't lose their potency too quickly before the whole preparation can be used.
Avatar f tn When I went back on friday they talked about putting me on immurane and taking me off the cycloporine but they think this is not the best idea due to me being of child bearing age. There is a new study out on eczema and the use of rituxan which is usually for lymphoma but they mentioned maybe trying this. I am not sure what else I should do. Are there any other tests that I should mention before they decide to try an IV medication. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn to them, so I took him to the vet, afraid he had a sudden case of SARDS. She said no, tested him for dry eye and gave me Cyclosporine drops. I have an appointment with an opthmologist who comes to our town once a month on April 2, but now he seems totally blind. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there any hope for his eyesight? Surgery?? Thanks to anyone who can respond!
1732853 tn?1366758928 I'm on Cyclosporine following my liver transplant a year ago. What did you want to know about it?
Avatar m tn Close to five years post liver transplant. No rejections, cyclosporine mono -therapy .Also take 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for bile duct stricture. Vascular hyper-tensions are becoming a real concern. ie heart, palpitations . fluid in ears , vision problems that aren't related to my actual eyes, the opthamologist confirmed, Migraines that have actually gotten better lately. kidney function is still adequate. My liver is doing very good especially with hep-c..
Avatar m tn The specialist reviewed all of the options with us - cyclosporine, pilocarpine or tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said that very rarely has she seen any dog respond to cyclosporine after not responding to tacrolimus. She also said that because our dog doesn't have a dry, goopy nose, that pilocarpine wouldn't be a first choice. She recommended a mix of tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said sirolimus is new. I have not been able to find anything about this drug on the internet.
Avatar m tn The prescription that your dermatologist has prescribed is the suitable treatment for eczema. Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms. Also avoid harsh soaps and detergents, In addition to avoiding soap, other products that may dry the skin such as powders or perfume should also be avoided. U.S.
Avatar m tn I use Atopica (Cyclosporine) for my Bulldog and it has been great for him.He has been on all kinds of other meds for his allergies in the past and the Atopica has been the best med of them all.He takes 100mg 2-3 times a week. When he first went on it ,He took it every day for a month then every other day for a month and now he is down to 2-3 a week. His skin was so raw before he went on it.
Avatar n tn In an additional 33 patients, glomerular and tubular NEP protein levels from renal graft biopsies were significantly higher among the 13 patients receiving cyclosporine + EC-MPS than among the 12 patients receiving cyclosporine + azathioprine or 8 patients receiving cyclosporine alone. Glomerular NEP expression inversely correlated with glomerulosclerosis and proteinuria, and tubular NEP expression inversely correlated with interstitial fibrosis.
Avatar m tn I am currently under St Thomas hospital for this, they are stating I should take Cyclosporine for 6 months, I was wondering if someone on here has taken this treatment and it has worked for them??, I am not convinced on this medication as I have read so many bad things about it. My consultant has stated that 70% of people whilst on cyclosporine will be clear, one third will have total remission, one third will be same as before, one third will be worse once the treatment has stopped.
Avatar f tn At first, she was just being treated for conjunctivitis because of the discharge in both eyes. However, after a couple of days we noticed one of her eyes wasn't "glistening" and she was having problems opening it, so we went back to the vet and they did a schirmer? test and came back that she has KCS in her eye. They also did a corneal stain, and showed small a few small ulcers on both eyes. We immediately put her on an antibiotic ointment and cyclosporine.
Avatar f tn Below is one of the medical record of a patient, seek help from ophthalmologist,to see if there is any improvement for the treatment regimen. Thank you very much!!! Admission condition: "Found that elevated blood sugar for more than five years, right eye pain for three months". Physical examination on admission showed the following: general condition, VOD:0.5 (correction). Fundus examination of optic nerve papilla edema, conjunctival hyperemia edema slightly.
Avatar n tn I was switched to cyclosporine and Myfortic. When the Incivek was started my cyclosporine was dropped to 25 mg once per day due to their interaction. Due to my previous non-response and to the multiple variations of the HCV I carry my odds were considered to be about 30%, maybe 40% at best. At the end of week 4 the HCV RNA was not detectable. The only additional side effect is that the anemia came quicker this time. I will start Procrit injections probably sometime this week.
Avatar n tn My oldest son is 32 in July 2018. He was transplanted 30 years ago with the wrong blood type( He is a O with an A Liver) He has been off all medications since he was 17 years old, so for 13 years. My youngest son who is 28 was transplanted 26 years ago. He got large B-Cell Lymphoma at age 7 from his cyclosporine. He went through CHOP chemotherapy and has been on NO IMMO DRUGS and takes nothing for rejection for over 21 years.
Avatar m tn s biopsy and lab numbers clearly show him heading down the road to fibrosis and cirrohsis, would it make sense to push for trying the new drugs at least the approved ones for non-transplant such as teleprevir and bocepavir? Otherwise the patient is looking at another transplant which would seem to be quite a negative option.
Avatar m tn t swelling and foamy urine. Now that I have a diagnosis, I am on pill forms of Prednisone every other day and Cyclosporine 2x every day. I have been on the meds for over 1 1/2 weeks and noticed that the foamy urine amount has doubled, my face swells unbelievably, and walking is difficult, as the bottom of my feet and ankles cause me severe pain. I checked with my Nephrologist and she states that it will take a little while for my body to adjust to the medicine.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. For sure your cyclosporin eyedrops had no effect on your test result. You can rely on the engative results. In theory, immunosuppressive drugs might delay positive HIV test results. However, I stress "in theory": there are no reports that it actually happens. And if it does, it would require far higher doses than the amount absorbed into the system from eyedroops.
Avatar m tn Thanks very much for the fast response, I may be able to tell my GP what I think it is now :)
