Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms treatment

concussion

Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn I diagnosed concussion because I had pretty much all the symptoms of one. And I didn't go to the hospital for two reasons 1) I didn't feel like trusting my driving skills after that 2) I did a typical test for "serious" head trama (watching what your eyes do, how long you can focus on things ext) so I knew it wasn't "serious" so I didn't think to go. I know thats bad but what can I say.
Avatar f tn Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc. Though there is no treatment for PCS itself, symptoms can be treated; medications and physical and behavioral therapy may be used, and patients can be educated about symptoms and their usual prognosis.
Avatar m tn Often, when talking about their stories, they mention how they relieved symptoms, dealt with post-concussion, and reveal who they went to for treatment. Some that immediately come to mind: Ryan Miller - football and hockey (different players) Sidney Crosby - hockey Andrew Shaw - hockey Jonathan Toews - hockey (I'm definitely a hockey fan.) https://concussionfoundation.
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar n tn Hello, Thank you for your question. After concussion or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn I am a little bit concerned that you may have had a minor stroke last year and may have impending symptoms of another one. When you are nineteen these events are unlikely, but I am painting a "worse-case" scenario. There is nothing really critical about this, but sometime in the next few days would do fine. Of course a consult with a neurologist is in order.
Avatar n tn You have quite a few symptoms. Initial hours are crucial for any treatment. I had all your symptoms and later on they found I had bleeding on my brain and still suffering with Post Concussion Symptoms after 2 years 2 months. Go to ER (or any doctor) asap and get evaluated.

Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?
Avatar n tn Generally, such symptoms may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain or spinal abnormalities after that injury. Treatment commonly may be suggested for symptoms such as pain-killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises.
Avatar f tn Please ask your friend to take OTC pain killers for symptomatic relief. Symptoms of PCS usually subside on their own and may not require any treatment. A neurologist must be consulted if the symptoms persist. An MRI must be done to find out if there is any serious injury to the brain. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn Nausea is one of the common symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome. I hit my head and had mild traumatic brain injury and then followed PCS. I have several other symptoms too (vertigo, fatigue, head pressure etc.,) and all related to the concussion. I too force myself to eat when I hit with nausea and it happens very often. I am surprised your Neurologist didn't suggest any drugs which in a way is good. Elavil (low dosage - 10 mg/day) helped some people with Nausea, sleep etc.

Avatar f tn Last Aug (09) I had a concussion/neck injury which left me with post concussion symptoms that subsided in Nov. The neck injury has been an ongoing problem with pain. With it has been the rocking sensation that is in sync with my heart beat. Had MRIs of head and neck (shows DDD bulging discs in neck, pinched nerve), Audiology exams (clear), Neurologist exam and Steroid Injs in neck.
435918 tn?1204737341 I suffer muscles that get as stiff as metal rods and are very painful. This happened after a concussion with symptoms so strong there were times I could barely walk, along with a host of other symptoms, for weeks after the accident. Then followed the 'metal' muscles. There are a number of very rational reasons to suggest maladaptive synaptogenesis because of focal axon injury, and all i want is to get an mri or dti test and an expert to look at it.
Avatar f tn I had a mild traumatic brain injury and have most of your symptoms. It is Post Concussion Syndrome probably. There is no one pill or treatment if it is PCS and you have to treat the symptoms individually. good luck.
Avatar f tn Amantadine has made a dramatic improvement for me for post-concussion syndrome. I am 8 months post-concussion after getting hit on the left temple by a baseball pitch. CT scan normal, no bleeding or injury. Symptoms had increased over time, but the pressure, migraines, and sensitivity to certain sounds were almost unbearable. I moved to a city with a concussion specialist and have started Amantadine for my initial treatment.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if there is another condition that had similar symptoms to post concussion syndrome. I have all of the most commonCommon coldsymptoms such as fatigue, nausea, migrains, mood swings, difficulty concentrating and remembering, but I also loss blocks of time, I pass out, and often experience some numbnessNumbness and tinglingon one side of my body. Could I have something other than Post Concussion Syndrome, and if so what?
Avatar f tn I apologize in advance for the length, I think the background is all relevant. I had two concussions in my late teens, one with memory loss of several hours after the blow (knocked on my head playing basketall), the second with loss of memory of the accident (I was a pedestrian hit by a car). I'm not sure if I was unconscious in either case.
446829 tn?1212425523 You can have a bulging disc and post concussion syndrome that happen at the same time or at different times. The INJURY you had may have caused them both, but the PCS would not cause a bulging disc, nor would it happen vice-versa. I took a few notes for you, below, concerning treatment. Medicinenet.
Avatar m tn About 5 months ago I slipped on ice and hit my head on pavement (front right temple). I had what I think may be considered as a mild concussion (loss of consciousness for 1 minute followed by heavy disorientation (amnesia?) for 7 minutes) At that time I was very drunk and I am thinking this played a large role on why I even lost consciousness. (I am only an occasional drinker though) I am a very healthy 28 y/o male.
Avatar f tn m sorry to hear what you have been through for the last few months. Treatment for post concussion is focused on the individual symptoms present since the severity and extent are unique to each person. While symptoms usually resolve after a several months, medications and other adjunctive therapies may also help. Prescription medications may help with headaches and associated symptoms.
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar m tn For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury. Additionally, symptoms may aggravate with alcohol abuse. Treatment commonly may be suggested for headaches such as pain killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises. If you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment.
