Concussion and return to activity

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and return to activity

concussion

Avatar n tn I took him to a neurolgist and was told that he would not be able to return to contact sports for 2 months. The doctor performed an examination and I was told my son was fine from the concussion. My son did not have a CATscan or MRI. Is 2 months considered excessive? My son did have a mild concussion this past fall as well.
Avatar f tn Yes, I agree. We were told so little. While he didn't start exercising right away we let him watch T.V and play video games. We later found out that he was supposed to rest his brain from ALL activity....both physical and cognitive. We hope that after four months there is light at the end of the tunnel...we've decided to let him return to normal activity (but no contact sports) because depression is worse than the headaches.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar m tn Its probably just some normal swelling from the bump and nothing to worry over.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 4 months ago when I fell during a parade with my high school band. My mom took me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a concussion. I had a CT scan and nothing was out of the ordinary, and it seemed to just be a mild concussion. 4 months later, I'm still having issues. I'm a junior in high school and concentration and memory issues made me switch out of all of my honors classes into regular ones and drop both math and science completely.
Avatar m tn It is quite annoying at night as the contrast between light and dark seem to exadurate the star bursting, haloes and ghosting I am experiencing.
Avatar m tn Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say. Your father should be shown to a neurologist once. Take care!
Avatar m tn Once that started it took almost a week an a half for the pressure to finally subside and I could go back to normal activity. I vouched I would never do that again....trying to sleep lying my head down on my pillow at night and that pressure building and building. I thought my head was going to explode, it was awful. However in July 2012, I was jumping into a swimming pool to catch a football and just happened to land sideways in the water.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with post concussion disorder and i have constant migranes, memory losss, sensitivity to light and sount, nausea, and dizzyness, and i just recently have begun to have auditory hallucinations. Ive been seeing a neurologist but so far nothing is working for any of my symptoms, can anybody please recommend anything?
Avatar m tn After a month and a half of these adjustments 3 times a week, we gave up on it and I stuck to medication and physical therapy. I would like to be able to return to school soon being that this time in my life is critical to my future and I'm wondering if my condition is reversable. If the atlas is what was knocked out of place during my concussion, is there a way to make it permanently stay in place?
1614777 tn?1298483489 I did have a bad concussion in 1982 due to a bad car wreck. I was wondering if this concussion had any correlation with my floaters, the floaters seem to have come on 6-9 months after the concussion, I also have some brain fog, just looking for answers and more than an eye doctor, would you recommend a neurologist? I jsy want to feel better and not live my life like this.
Avatar m tn The third day when I was at home, I woke up, I still had a headache and was dizzy all day and just felt blah so I went to my dr. that day. He did a neuro exam and during this exam he made me walk across the room. He seen I wasn't walking straight because I was dizzy. he said he was very sure I had a concussion and so he sent me to the ER for a ct scan. After the ct scan, the NP said although It didn't show a concussion I do have one and it showed sinusitis.
Avatar n tn Welcome...Bless his/her heart! What happened? This is normally a Neurological Issue due to injury to the brain & nervous system from head trauma....In your case (One week later) sounds as if the swelling has not been brought under control...The Vet that diagnosed the "Concussion" should have given an Anti-inflammatory (Usually steroids) to help with the inflammation. You need to return to your Vet today & have your puppy checked again.....
Avatar f tn re now several years after the fact and the same area that was tender immediately following the concussion is STILL tender to the touch, with various other symptoms present. I will be going in for additional imaging in the coming weeks, but my question is, is this normal? Is it a sign of something more serious, like a brain tumor? Can concussions even cause brain tumors? Thanks for any and all help. I'm just nervous for the imaging and possible findings, so seeking input here.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar n tn My concerns is that there is seizure activity and the EEG does not pick up. I have a friend that has seizures and she has even had a 24 EEG and it came back "normal." She even had her license taken away for 6 months by her epileptologist. I have had and reacted to Depakote, Neurontin, Lyrica, and Topamax. The Lyrica and Neurontin was originally for nerve pain and the Depakote and Topamax were for migraines.
Avatar m tn (hitting the front of my head and also the back of my head when I fell). I went to my Dr. 4 days later due to the pressure and pain in my head shea dignosed I have Post Concussion Syndrome. I had a ct scan and it came back clear. I now have continious pressure in my eyes and in my nasal area. My Dr. did nto prescribe or recommend anything. I had taken an over the counter medication and it eased the pressure its back with a vengence..
233488 tn?1310693103 Retinal holes/tears are very common and depending on size, location, personal and family history and the presence or abscense of vitreous traction may not need treatment. If treatment is done additional tears or a retinal detachment could occur but it is much more likely to not occur. It is important for him to follow up regularly with his ophthalmologist for a dilated retina and peripheral retina exam.
Avatar f tn I had absence seizures and a few grand mals for about twenty years. I had brain surgery six years ago to treat this. Since then, I haven't had any 'normal' seizures. However, my EEG is still abnormal and when it is showing seizure-like activity, I have a bad headache. I tried various medications for my seizures over the years and they just made it to where I was really out of it and still having some seizures. That is why I asked about and went ahead with the surgery.
Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.
Avatar f tn I can barly sleep, my ears ring randomly, i have the worst headach and im dizzy and feel like i need to get sick. What does this mean and what should I do ??? #HELP!
Avatar f tn ) After 3 months you should be able to return to doing everything you did prior to surgery, just need to use some common sense. If you are doing an activity that you feel will really create pressure on your pelvic floor, you can insert a tampon for extra internal support during that activity (assuming it is a short term activitiy). There is also a product you can purchase online that is designed for incontinence that could help, I can tell you more about that in a PM if you have an interest.
Avatar m tn I sustained a minor concussion three weeks ago, and though my logical and linguistic faculties seemed to return to normal within a couple days, I have had persistent feelings of pressure and weakness in my head, though these have markedly diminished within the past week. At present, I have recovered enough that I am able to use the computer (with the monitor at low brightness) for simple tasks like reading and writing emails.
Avatar f tn I am not sure anyone will be able to answer accurately since a concussion is a jarring to the brain and what happens physically in/on the brain no one knows.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum, It is possible to post op experience some symptoms during a cold or flu....hopefully they will go away with the illness...we tend to fill with fluids...and it may still be tighter in that area even with decompression surgery....and over the yrs scar tissue could have formed to make it a little smaller again.... You said this is in the past few days.....I too am post op...
1914334 tn?1322285939 Exercise, do cardiovascular activity, perform balance and coordination exercises to improve functioning from different parts of the brain, do sensory exercises like closing your eyes and try walking and practice daily meditation. I could guarantee that you will experience how everything gets reconnected and thanks to the plasticity of the brain you will start feeling like you say seeing with your own eyes and not someone else's.
Avatar f tn I had one practice where I hit the ball and i got a killer headache and my ear began to ring. Ever since that I have been unable to do any physical activity. A few weeks after that incident I got a second opinion who told me i have post concussion syndrome and i was out for good. My symptoms have mostly subsided except i have this pressure feeling in my head. Its more frontal, but literally in the middle of my head, almost between the temples.
