606078 tn?1247264553 I was 5 years old when I was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever. I remember being so sick, nightmares, high fever etc. Could this be one of the culprits along with s many more that could have brought my Fibro/CFS to the surface.? I also had 3 major knee surgeries in 2007, I went through major trauma during all 3 surgeries. Thank you again.
Avatar m tn The doctor is saying possible scarlet fever. But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis. They need to determine if he got any of these complications (which are rare) .By doing more tests. Did they ever culture Group A strep from his throat? It takes a few months for the ASO titer to go down and also for the lymph nodes to go down.
Avatar n tn Sorry, hit enter too fast. Anyway I don't think it can be either scarlet fever or Fifth disease because of the rash and fever. I can see Fifth disease to still be possible, because it may act differently in adults than kids. But I don't think it could be scarlet fever at all. I mean it usually comes it a facial rash yes, but also a high fever, strawberry tongue, and then a full on rash. Also you feel pretty freaking miserable if you got it.
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar n tn Does anybody know if scarlet fever scars or causes loss of pigmentation? recently getting over, but skin has not healed while some parts look white and some are still red?? And would sunbathing help to dry out or just make scarring worse?
Avatar n tn I am asking whether I could get this from my partner they show no signs at all but in the last week their hands have started to peel in exactly the same way mine are following the scarlet fever rash. I am worried that this may not be scarlet fever but something more, is there any std that comes across this way. My Doctor has said that is highly unlikely I was infected from my partner following their treatment or that I was reinfected from them following my antibiotics course.
Avatar n tn I am very worried for him, and I know that the doctors are doing all the right tests for him, MRI-more blood work. Also does anyone know if scarlet fever has any type of relationship with these tests? My son had scarlet fever 3 times. Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn Yes this has some information: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1053253-overview#aw2aab6b2b5aa Basically its far less of a problem in the United States because of the existence of antibiotics. In countries that can't afford them or don't properly allocate spending on them it can be fatal as it was in the United States before antibiotics existed. If this continues in that country they should most likely authorize a traveler's advisory warning for that country.
Avatar n tn A rash and a fever could be scarlet fever. How high is the temp?
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.

Avatar f tn Hello there, I'm a 20 year old female wondering if it's possible that I am experiencing symptoms of acute HIV. Here's the background: Possible exposures: sex with man (status unknown), with condom, just over a month ago. Almost two weeks ago, oral sex (giving and receiving) with a different man (status unknown), ejaculated in my mouth both times.
Avatar f tn When I was a child in 1992 I had scarlet fever. They gave me a shot of penicillin and within a week i was all better. If you do decide to go back to the doctor, see if they offer a one time shot instead of 10 days of pills. Also gargling salt water is very helpful for sore tonsils....don't swallow of course. Sorry i cant be of more help. I hope all goes well.
Avatar f tn Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .In acute posts streptococcal glomerulonephritis there is edema, hematuria, and hypertension with or without oliguria .Hypertension may cause severe headache. Get his blood pressure checked. How severe was the concussion? Your child needs reevaluation.
Avatar n tn Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn ll want a nickname (or her friends, or other adults, will) when she is a baby and in preschool and elementary school, it just happens naturally. Pay does not sound like much, or Payie, and Scar just does not sound great at all. (I guess people might settle on Lettie, but at that point it is so different than Scarlett that you may as well have named her something else. lol) Kids get nicknames. You're ahead of the game if you manage it.
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.
