Common Questions and Answers about Scarlet fever complications

scarlet-fever

Avatar f tn Hi Odette72, If you were never treated for Scarlet fever you can get long term complications from it like Rheumatic fever or kidney problems. Also, fever, pneumonia, throat abscesses, ear infections and skin infections. Most people don't get the complications but it can happen and that is why they treat this with antibiotics early on. Maybe you can see an infectious disease doctor. Do you have any problems with your kidneys or heart? If not that hopefully you will be okay.

606078 tn?1247264553 I was 5 years old when I was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever. I remember being so sick, nightmares, high fever etc. Could this be one of the culprits along with s many more that could have brought my Fibro/CFS to the surface.? I also had 3 major knee surgeries in 2007, I went through major trauma during all 3 surgeries. Thank you again.
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.

Id be really grateful to hear from anyone with similer experience or advice??
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.

Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. Avatar n tn Hello, You have not mentioned your daughter’s age. If your daughter is a child then the possibility of rocky mountain spotted fever, Kawasaki disease and scarlet fever are there. Rash in all these involves the palms and soles and is a red, shiny rash. Investigations and blood tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn I am very worried for him, and I know that the doctors are doing all the right tests for him, MRI-more blood work. Also does anyone know if scarlet fever has any type of relationship with these tests? My son had scarlet fever 3 times. Thank you for your help.
