I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
Yes, it feels like I don't need the combivent regimen since I started the flovent.
I use the combivent mainly before exercise with 02. . Unfortunately my insurance is minimal
and I only get to see my pullmanary doctor who proscribes these meds, once every

ve recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. What would be a better method and inhaler.

Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws.
recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
You might try asking your doctor to prescribe Combivent/Duoneb. This is an already prepared mixture of Albuterol and Ipratropium. It is available as an inhaler, as well as a nebulizer solution.
Although you can ask your doctor to be sure, Pulmicort should probably be taken separately.
s sometimes a productive cough. I was told I have asthma and I get sinus infections. I use an inhaler (Combivent) but that doesn't stop the coughing. It will get so bad that I will start to gag. One interesting thing is that when I lay down, I have no inclination to cough. Could it be my tonsils? Should I see an ENT?
Nasal and throat cultures test negative except for rhinovirus. Albuterol (qid) Combivent (BID) combined treatment resolved shortness of breath finally so dropped albuterol and combivent... but cough still persists. Follow up again with Pulm increased dosage of Flovent to 110.
Sorry so detailed, just wanted to convey that we have tried MANY approaches. He is still coughing. Albeit less frequently on some days, but still very bronchial cough. Wet, non productive. No drainage and No fevers EVER.
t been able to sleep hardly at all. This has never happened before. I take combivent and flovent 2 times a day and have been doing this for a long time. I don't understand why I can't sleep when nothing has changed for me. I have tried pm meds and also ambien with no luck sleeping. What is going on for this to happen to me?

- six months after that I developed thyroiditis resulting in hyperthyroidism. It balanced out and now my blood work has been normal. I have a family history of thyroid issues.
- i've had several (3-4) yeast infections over the last year
- not sure it's worth mentioning, I have a new patch of skin on my right hand that is a darker pigment.
My pulmonary specialist just gave me an Advair Diskus and increased my Albuterol breathing treatments to 4-6 daily and my Combivent Inhaler every 4 hours. I almost died from an asthma attack last weekend. I had emergency heart surgery in June and have been having arrhythmias so I'm on a heart monitor for this month. I understand that Advair causes heart palpitations. Since I'm already having trouble with my heartbeat, I'm afraid to try the Advair.
I just found out i have copd, on oxgen 24/7, feel ok but have trouble taking deep breathe, prednisone seem to help about six hours after i take it, but im getting scared that if i dont get relief soon ill die, im only 53 , i need to hear from other people with this problem, i feel so bad all the time
My legs feel like they will give out when I stand up sometimes. Using my arms sometimes feel so heavy like I am trying to move underwater, or in quicksand.
Are these symptoms of MS? or something serious?
I am 50 year old female, with asthma (controlled at the present time) and I only take Theophylline and use Combivent Inhailers, if that makes any difference.

I use this new combivent inhaler 4 x a day so how long does one inhaler last and how often does it get refilled.
The reason im wondering is because alot of times certain inhalers will mess with your tongue such as making it numb and swollen, making it wierd colors, or sometimes even ooze out puss and phlem, A few of the inhalers that will do this unless you rinse your mouth out after every actuation are, Combivent, Flovent, ADVAIR or even some nose sprays that hit the back of your tongue. I have been diagnosed with COPD. I use Combivent twice a day. I have a odor in my nose. It smells like bread/yeast.
These include Albuterol, Flovent, Combivent, Spiriva, lasix, Diamox , Clariten and Nasonex. I follow a strict diet, no fatty , greasy, fried ,alcoholic or dairy. I elevate my head in bed and lay on my left side. I had test done which include upper and lower GI series, endoscope and a fluroscope. I do everything my Doctor tells me but I am still suffering . My Doctor also suggested that I lose weight.
I became symptomatic when exercising. My pulmonologist put me on advair bid, singulair qd, (combivent and intal prn and before exercise) Been doing fine, but recently been getting phlemy, and tend to clear the throat quiet a bit. I was thinking I was probably coming down with a cold? I do have a hx of gerd, and I take nexium qd, but one thing that happened since I started taking my asthma meds, it seems my gerd symptoms came back.
