I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system.
In place of Advair I use a variety of natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. My health is much improved and I found that the severe bronchitis I had was in fact CAUSED by the Advair.
The answer is complicated. The reason for giving these medications sequentially, is that they have different effects. By giving one med before the other the optimal medicinal performance is obtained with a minimum of medication. There is a difference of opinion regarding this issue. My brain is foggy, but that is how it was explained to me a long time ago by a very knowledgable R.N. Ocassionally there are side effects, and mixing the drugs does not hold well for figuring out the problem.
I started on Pro-Air, it was a little help, went to Combivent, it helps quite a bit, but is terribly expensive. I purchased the Omron Portable Ultrasonic Nebulizer and am using the vials of Albuterol and Ipratropium. I can only use 1/2 vial because more than that speeds my heart up too much. Can I save the last 1/2 of the vial for later use? Does anybody know of a more affordable way to get the medicine I need? I am paying out of pocket and this economy gets harder every day it seems like.

Switched up steriod to inhaled Flovent 44 instead of nebulizer and albuterol qid. No results. Chest x-ray and blood allergy (why not at this point) ordered and clear.
Follow up with Pulm realized no coughing at night and diagnosed with Protracted Bronchitis. Treated 3 weeks of Augmentin 500mg BID x three weeks. Nasal and throat cultures test negative except for rhinovirus.

You have to rely on medications to breath and when it gets bad enough they will recommend oxygen. My mom uses a nebulizer certain times of the day. Then if she has to go out and needs a little extra something to get her through it, she will use a proventil inhaler. There are different medications for COPD. Find the one that works best for you. My mom liked combivent to add to her treatments, but she can't afford it anymore.
I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion. I use a slightly hypertonic saline which I make myself and nebulize that. The result is not as dramatic, but it is more gentle and there are no side effects. (There are with acetylcysteine.
I also take abuterol in my nebulizer as well as combivent puffer along with nasal spray for the nasal problems. The LVRS did me well as I was off all meds for ten years till last two years when the desease seems to be reoccuring and now I am trying desperately to get on the lung transplant list at either Pittsburgh medical center or Cleveland clinic .
Does anyone know if an inhaler ( I use combivent) can aggravte PACS and PVCS? I had breakfast this morning and then used my inhalers and my heart started doing some weird pvcs and pacs anyone else ever have this happen?

you were breathing was probably albuterol, the same medicine used in rescue inhalers, just in liquid form from a machine called a nebulizer. The albuterol opens constricted airways, which is why you couldn't breathe. Asthma is often compared to drowning without water.

I was using something called Combivent which made me cough every time I sprayed. My pulmonologist asked if I were using a "spacer" attached to the inhaler. Of course, neither she nor the pharmacy had offered one to me. Instead, I switched to QVAR which is much more effective and lasts longer than 4 or 6 hours. The down side is that QVAR is a steroid; however, I have yet to notice any negative side effects after about 3 years of use.

ve recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. What would be a better method and inhaler.

Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws.
My son is taking albuterol through the nebulizer. He is having nose bleeds Is this common?
Just to be on the safe side.Maybe your having a reaction to that drug?Especially if you normally dont have these problems off the medicine.I know these palpatations are annoying!!!!!This could very well be a normal side affect but you need to find out to be on the safe side.I know when I panic when my hearts floppin around,it can make it much worse!
