I have not used Spiriva so I am unsure of its dosage, but I have taken ipratropium which is in the same class. As a neb solution it lasts 6 hours and as an MDI it last 4 hours. Check your prescription for dosing on this medication.
Advair is a combination medication used to treat COPD and asthma. It has two active components a cortocosteroid (antiinflamatory) AND an LABA (long acting beta2 agonist that lasts 12 hours). Beta2 agonists are the broncho-dilaters.

You might try asking your doctor to prescribe Combivent/Duoneb. This is an already prepared mixture of Albuterol and Ipratropium. It is available as an inhaler, as well as a nebulizer solution.
Although you can ask your doctor to be sure, Pulmicort should probably be taken separately.
I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
Does anyone know if an inhaler ( I use combivent) can aggravte PACS and PVCS? I had breakfast this morning and then used my inhalers and my heart started doing some weird pvcs and pacs anyone else ever have this happen?
yea but it uses alot of oxygen to use it for that....i think it needs set at like 10 L/M.
do you find nebulizers help?
My doctor has me using the neb more than an inhaler. I am to use my inhaler only when I absolutely cannot use my neb or for very minor issues.
Personally, I find it is MUCH more effective. The nebulizer produces a much finer mist than what comes out of an inhaler enabling it to get deeper into the lungs. I know of some people that have purchased small, purse sized nebs to use instead of using an inhaler at all.
ve recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. I am not taking any oral steroids at this time. I use Duo Neb Inhalation 2 times per day and oxygen on 2 L continously. The Pulmonary Doctor keeps having me try to use Advair but I get thrush in my mouth anytime I'm on Advair or oral steroids. So I try to avoid them if at all possible. I am currently using Spiriva HandiHaler which I believe is not suppose to have any steroids but I keep getting Thrush in my mouth !
I was diagnosed with acute bronchitus and also had an asthma attack on top of it which made my breathing verrrry difficult. I was given Z pack, pretnezone. And took 2 nebulizer treatments there. I have a neb at home. I have been taking the medicine as directed. And doing my neb every 4 hrs. I am becoming MORE and MORE wheezy. Throughout the day 4 times I have been coughing up green with red brownish sputum.
recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
s sometimes a productive cough. I was told I have asthma and I get sinus infections. I use an inhaler (Combivent) but that doesn't stop the coughing. It will get so bad that I will start to gag. One interesting thing is that when I lay down, I have no inclination to cough. Could it be my tonsils? Should I see an ENT?
Today at kaiser while I was being treated for a case of asthma, a nurse brought in the breathing machine, the one where you have to put in a liquid solution of albuterol and inhale it and she dropped the mouthpiece and washed it out then had me use it. Is that okay to do, I'm assuming it's still sterilized?
I have severe asthma AND VCD. I was recently started on CPAP for a mild case of sleep apnea. I hate it! I can't breathe with the machine on and it gives me headaches. I'm not sleeping any better with it than I was without it. I'm still waking up at least once per night needing to do a neb treatment. I also have fibromyalgia and PD, so I'm up several times per night due to pain, which the CPAP doesn't help.
You do have my sympathies. I don't get headaches, but my asthma reaction is varily severe.
What has worked for me is pre-treating for the reaction. Work with your allergist to find an effective pre-treatment plan for you. Patanase or Astepro may help some, then you can add atrovent and NasalCrom if those don't work. I also take a good oral antihistamine. I have heard of some people eliminating their symptoms with Zyrtec.
He has a nebulizer the sent home with him and albeutrol solution for the neb. (uses 4 times a day with the albeuterol) , also has proventil rescue inhaler, and a ton of different medications. He is on formuterol fumarate 12 mcg, paratropium bromide .5, hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, simvastatin 10 mg, citalopram hydrobeomide 10 mg, losactan 100 mg, metoprolol tactcate 25 mg. carbamaze 200 mg. 2 X per day.
Should not matter ..... I would take it an hour or so before your neb treatment so if it helps loosen up the mucus, hopefully the other meds will be able to improve the breathing even more. Hope that helps!
I sound like I am drowning in my own fluids. I talke neb treatments, inhalers, stomache acid reducer, spariva, singulair and some. I feel I am loosing this battle. I have had severe asthma since age 4. I was too embarrassed to go to er last night. I had an attack lasting 3 hrs. I took 3 neb treatments, then with no help I took 30mmg. pregnazone which I have been on pregnazone for months. Where do I get help. Different Dr's, different meds, different answeres.
My pulmonary specialist just gave me an Advair Diskus and increased my Albuterol breathing treatments to 4-6 daily and my Combivent Inhaler every 4 hours. I almost died from an asthma attack last weekend. I had emergency heart surgery in June and have been having arrhythmias so I'm on a heart monitor for this month. I understand that Advair causes heart palpitations. Since I'm already having trouble with my heartbeat, I'm afraid to try the Advair.
