I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
s sometimes a productive cough. I was told I have asthma and I get sinus infections. I use an inhaler (Combivent) but that doesn't stop the coughing. It will get so bad that I will start to gag. One interesting thing is that when I lay down, I have no inclination to cough. Could it be my tonsils? Should I see an ENT?
Albuterol (qid) Combivent (BID) combined treatment resolved shortness of breath finally so dropped albuterol and combivent... but cough still persists. Follow up again with Pulm increased dosage of Flovent to 110.
Sorry so detailed, just wanted to convey that we have tried MANY approaches. He is still coughing. Albeit less frequently on some days, but still very bronchial cough. Wet, non productive. No drainage and No fevers EVER.
I have been to my regular doctor several times and he basically tells me I have chronic broncitis (COPD) now and just have to live with it. It makes no sensel to me. I had no persistent cough before my bout with pnemonia, haven't smoked for almost twenty years, and nine months later my cough is as bad or maybe a little worse. Sometimes productive (medium to dark yellow thick mucus) and sometimes not. How could my cough not be related to my pnemonia?
i have a cough that makes me gag every time . it starts with a tickle in my thoat. it seems to be on the right side then i cough so hard sometimes it make me urinate cough med does not help,nothing seem to help

Yes, it feels like I don't need the combivent regimen since I started the flovent.
I use the combivent mainly before exercise with 02. . Unfortunately my insurance is minimal
and I only get to see my pullmanary doctor who proscribes these meds, once every
six months. Next I see him I will have a list of questions; partial derived from the
excellent discussions on this board. Thanks to all for these discussions.
she gave me 2 inhalers one is serevent and one is combivent. im so glad she gave me the combivent because although i forgot to tell her i often cough until i vomit. (at least twice a day) i dont mind the inhalers or the medicine i just dont want to die. i am a single mom and my kids have nobody but me. we arent dirt poor but we are pretty close so i am on medicaid so i dont know if i can get a second opinion. she didnt say anything about a pulmonary specialist. should i mention it to her?
I had a CAT scan on my sinus which revealed nothing but I know I do cough from bronchtis and asthma and what has worked for me is a bronchiodialator "Combivent". That was also reccomended by my pulmonolgist. Dry hot weather spikes all of this it stinks, too cold and too dry, we can't win. Keep pursuing other allergy meds-nasonex works good for me-i get samples from my Dr. No your not building up dependency--allergies are terrible to fix!!!!!!
This makes me very anxious, which makes the situtation worse. Was told by my pulmonologist I should try taking zoloft. Im thinking about going to see my doctor, but I dont know which one. I know spasms are very common and the feeling of the lump in throat is a sign, but I had never felt the thightness. Wondering if its Gi related or asthma?
ve recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. What would be a better method and inhaler.

Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws.
i have a heavy chesty cough, ct showed shadow on left lung most likely infective in nature, 2 days of antibiotics to go with no improvement.

There is a difference of opinion regarding this issue. My brain is foggy, but that is how it was explained to me a long time ago by a very knowledgable R.N. Ocassionally there are side effects, and mixing the drugs does not hold well for figuring out the problem.
recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
zone so she prescribed combivent 4 times a day and ventalin Inhaler for sudden attacks as she suspects COPD. I will be doing lab tests and other test next week. Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep.
