I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
Hello I am a person who has suffered for at least 3 - 4 years with diverticulitis with on set of problems relating to my being extremely bloating, constipated you name it, and the PAIN unbearable at times. Yet I have tried everything Fiber in my diet, changing my eating habits, eating smaller amounts so I wouldn't feel as bloated or constipated.

Doctor wil probably give you written instructions about how to prepare (1-2 days of special colon cleansing diet..). Before colonoscopy you will probably get an injection of a sedative into your arm vein that will make you drowsy. You will be lying on the examining table, doctor will insert colonoscope (about 1 cm thick flexible viewing tube with a camera and a light on the end) through your anus and proceed it to the end of the small intestine.
I just had my first colonscopy & requested anesthesia when they asked me if I wanted it. But I still woke up in the middle of it screaming. I was too groggy to understand what they wanted but could tell something was wrong before I eventually blacked out again. After it was all over, I asked what happened, but all they told me was that the doctor couldn't complete.
I thought I was having a bad painful dream when in reality I must have woken up at one point as the Dr was trying to maneuver the scope through the twisted part of my colon. I was given the option of the enema(which I had years ago)or another colonoscopy with deeper sedation. I chose the colonoscopy. I was given "Propo...something", can't remember exact name. I never felt a thing and woke to hear the nurse say they got all the way through.
Hi. I have been following the forum for 'white tissuey stool and blood in stool'; it's about 4 pages long. Nobody has an answers yet. Don't feel alone. I took another stool sample in for tissue but none have showed any problems - for the past year. You will see some have taken pictures, some have been told to see a phsychiatrist, etc. Only advice I can give you is to go to the health store and start cleansing: para first, colon second, lymph or whatever else after.
It sounds as though the doc wants to perform a barium enema which is basically a special x-ray of the large intestine (colon and rectum) to look for structural featues and look for any changes/abnormalities. he was given enema and also flatus tube was inserted . He had melena whenever enema was given - was this an indicator of something which was badly going wrong in his stomach ?
His distension has not gone down and also had hypokalemia and subsequently developed renal failure. He was also having temperature of 102 degrees ever since he had distension. Drowsiness has increased in 2 days and later he was shifted to CCU for having tachycardia ?? He was said to have infection called sepsis.
If I just had the simoidoscopy a year ago could it be colon cancer that is causing alot of pain in my lower side? Are these tests good for finding colon cancer in the sigmoid and descending colon? I have made many comments about the same issue. I noticed the mucous during cleansing. At first dark, but now tissuey after doing a lot of cleansing and colinics. I hope you can find some of the posts made on similar questions. Under the ribcage is generally gallbladder blockage to the bile duct and liver toxins - I've been going through this for 5 years - took a long time to figure out the problem.
barium enema is like an x-ray inside ur colon. it is unpleasant procedure where they pump enema into your colon and then take pictures. takes about 10 minutes but often it hurts. however it pays off because that is where ur problem could be.
Barium swallow is also an x-ray but not abdominal. It is also called upper gi series and when u swallow the barium they check for ur esophagus, stomach and small intestines.

I have a few autoimmune diseases. My colon is twisted. After I had my hysterectomy, I became severely constipated. Flubs out my colon n intestines a twisted. Making it hard to do a colonoscopy. I've had pain on my right side (where colon is) for YEARS. Before my hysterectomy. That's part of the reason they gave me the hysterectomy. That didn't help obviously. U can feel the stool in my stomach. I can go 4 to 5 weeks without a bowel movement.
