plavix

Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar m tn In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI. Some subgroups of patients with cardiovascular disease in this trial seemed to benefit more from clopidogrel than from aspirin: those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients.
Avatar m tn I am taking plavix for 10 years for a long history with heart problems. Stent, heart attack etc.. I am wondering how long a person should be on this.
Avatar m tn I am 78 and had a mini stroke 11 Jun 2014. I was placed in the hospital for overnight observation and was released the following day to my family doctor. I have high blood pressure so he placed me on Exforge 10-325-25mg HCT and also Clopidogrel 75mg In the hospital I had a MRA, MRI, CATSCAN, Chest Xray and several blood tests. I lost peripheral vision in the left eye. When I left the hospital I had this slight lump across from my left ear about 1 inch long pointing to the top of my head.
Avatar n tn for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT. But prasugrel and ticlopidine are next generation drugs of the same kind as Plavix. Maybe they'd have fewer side effects than Plavix. Another new anticoagulant (with a different MOA) that isn't so well known is based on... leech saliva!
Avatar f tn He has been taking a med with clopidogrel and aspirin since then. He has had multiple mild strokes. The doctor has warned that another stroke will be very dangerous. Recently he has had multiple tooth decay. A dental procedure to take them off needs to be done. He is on painkillers now which is okay to manage the pain for the time being but the procedure needs to be done. The doctors are asking him to stop the bloodthinners for at least a week three days pre op and four days post op.
1618533 tn?1299870566 I am new to this site, having been a member of another Stroke forum for the last 3 years or so. When I started there, I was re-learning how to think and type, which was a huge challenge. I found the forum to be a great place for me, and wanted to come over here to meet up with some more stroke survivors. I had 4 strokes at the age of 43, which left me with end stage renal failure, and quite a few deficits.
Avatar f tn If you’ve already had a heart attack or stroke or are resistant to the beneficial effects of aspirin, your doctor may suggest supplementary aspirin therapy with another clot-preventing drug, such as clopidogrel (Plavix). Clopidogrel may even be suggested as an alternative drug therapy, particularly if you’re allergic to aspirin or can’t tolerate its side effects." Maybe someone will be able to add a thought or 2. Take care and keep us posted.
575214 tn?1218040360 Aspirin, taken daily in low-to-medium doses (50-325 mg), is an effective and inexpensive first-choice agent for reducing recurrent stroke risk.Similarly, clopidogrel(plavix)is taken to decrease the chance of stroke recurrence. To decrease the thrombus or emboli, fibrinolytic drugs are to be taken. Tissue plasminogen activator is a fibrinolytic protein and it will reduce the size of thrombus or the blockage.
1346447 tn?1327862572 ClopivasAP150 is a combination of anti-platelet drug clopidogrel and blood thinner aspirin. If there is an internal bleed, and this drug is continued, then it can worsen the bleed. Depending on the location of the bleed, an increased bleed can become life threatening. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
Avatar n tn My daugther has atrial fibrillation and has had 3 mini-strokes, is on 5mg coumadin , which is not working very well for her and just was in the hospital for another TIA. While at the hospital she was also on herprin the whole time, but on returning hom the problem with the coumadin storted every other day changing the dosage. We were told this is the only blood thinner she can take because she is also on dialysis and is HIV, which is under control.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm writing on behalf of my sister, who has been experiencing a series of puzzling health problems following a recent brain stroke. Despite multiple visits to doctors, we haven't been able to pinpoint the cause or find effective treatments. I'm hoping to gather insights or suggestions from this community. Here are some key details about her situation: - Low ferritin levels (3.5 ng/ml) - Low transferrin saturation (4.4%) - Low iron (18.
Avatar f tn BMS are recommended for low-risk restenosis patients, those in need for surgery in the near future who cannot take clopidogrel for an extended period of time, incompliant patients, and those at high risk for thrombotic complication. 3. The combination of (clopidogrel) Plavix and aspirin is very effective in preventing stent thrombosis and should be continued for at least one year after DES, though the proper duration (indefinitely?) is still to be determined by more and longer experience.
Avatar f tn recently he also had 3 teeth removed and is taking antibiotics for this. he had complication on one and they had to stitch his gums. he is also diabetic and doesn't have much exercise right now cos he's in temporary quarters while awaiting relocating. I just want to make sure cos he seems to be using this as a crutch to emotionally blackmail everytime we have arguments and I try to break it off with him.
Avatar f tn I am 32 and have paraxosymal afib. Last week I was in the hospital for three days to begin Sotalol. I am taking 80mg BID and Plavix. I have two questions. How low of a heart rate is too low on Sotalol? I am currently in the lows 50's with many drops of heart rate into the upper/mid 40's while awake. I have been feeling very tired, dizzy and just unwell. So I am wondering how low of a heartrate is too low even if I wasn't symptomatic.
1723161 tn?1309771519 Afib is a leading cause of stroke for sure, because blood can pool in the atria when this is happening and spawn clots, but if it just started how could it be a cause before the afib started? Maybe she was having episodes of afib and it was just finally caught? that's a possibility. Now that she's being treated with the blood thinner (pradaxia) hopefully the TIAs stop. SOmetimes severe valve regurgitation can cause afib.
Avatar f tn Also a daily walking for one hour. I am so grateful to the Doctor who made it possible for my husband to get relief from his Angina. My question to the people who are on the same boat..... Do you get an awful bruising easily? Some bruising is common I heard but my worries are regarding cerebral haemorrhage. If a person bleeds so easily with these blood thinner meds, are they safe from having any sinister internal bleeding?
Avatar n tn It is becoming more acceptable now that clopidogrel is a benefit for life. While aspirin works on one side of the clotting process, clopidogrel works from another. You say your heart attack was caused by cholesterol but this isn't strictly true. Cholesterol is one of the later processes which makes the heart attack happen but isn't the initial cause. The initial cause is damage to your artery linings which can be through blood pressure or bad diet.
Avatar n tn I am asking for a friend. Is there an alternative drug to cumadin, for example, plavix?
Avatar n tn ve already had a heart attack or stroke, or if you have been found by your doctor to be at high or moderate risk for heart attack or stroke, the benefits of taking aspirin can trump the risks. That’s because aspirin acts as an anti-inflammatory and an inhibitor of blood clotting. For those at risk, aspirin is one of the drugs in our arsenal (along with statins, ACE inhibitors, and beta blockers) that can help keep a coronary event from occurring in the first place or recurring.
Avatar n tn Although important interactions between clopidogrel and these drugs are unlikely, interactions should be looked for carefully. You should consult your doctor to insure the degree of blood thinning is within specification with INR. There is a risk of excessive bleeding, and a question would be does the proposed benefit out weigh the risk of excessive bleeding. Just another perspective for a dotor to consider and you should be aware.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
