970581 tn?1248407961 My mother has been prescribed many opiates for pain management for several years now. It has caused her some severe health issues, central sleep apnea, all kinds of stuff. Now they are checking for brain damage due to long term opiate abuse. She has been off all opiates for 22 days but had a 1 week suboxone taper. So now she has been off everything for 2 weeks. They did a drug test and she tested positive. Is it possible for some of this stuff to still be showing up on drug tests.
Avatar n tn I started making calls myself and I found a neurosurgeon and am waiting on my next appointment with him. I also asked my doctor to give me a referral for pain management. I am waititng to hear from them with an appoinment date now. My current issue is that I asked my doc to not write a new prescription for the patches......that is really making me feel bad and causing me to take a few more pills than I normally would.
Avatar f tn Clonidine, as far as I know, isn't used much for blood pressure anymore. It is used in pain management, though, and also is given to people who are going through withdrawals. I have been on it for a while for pain management (along with other things.) I'm not sure if it does much as far as pain goes. It doesn't affect my blood pressure either way. If you trust your doctor, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You could always ask the pharmacist what their opinion is.
Avatar f tn Why won't your pain management doctor see you any longer? Going CT can be rough. What medications have you been on and at what dose? All narcotics produce some of the same withdrawal symptoms. Going CT isn't dangerous, unless you have any other underlying health conditions. If you do, you should talk things over with a doctor. For most narcotics, the worst of withdrawals last 3-5 days. Occasionally, someone will escape bad withdrawals, and occasionally, it can last longer.

Avatar f tn I decided to have the Medtronic Intrathecal Pain Pump implanted, which was an outpatient procedure. I go to pain management every 8 weeks to have it refilled with fentanyl and clonidine. I have absolutely no more pain in my spine. It is the best decision that I have ever made, no more pills, and no more groggy feelings.
Avatar n tn s unlabeled use in the management of opioid withdrawl it thought to work by preventing pain signal transmission to the CNS for one. It also inhibits cardioacceleration and vasoconstriction. It causes marked drowsiness. It must be used carefully. There are many adverse effects, and one of those is rebound hypertension. It should gradually be discontinued over 2-4 days to prevent it. I have never taken it, so hopefully there'll be someone who has come to help you.
Avatar m tn I have been taking buprenorphine, at the dose of 6mg/day, for pain management, for about 1 year. This last month, the pain relief from the medication has not been as effective, and I have ended up taking as much as 8mg to 10mg on some days. Consequently, my medication is running out 4 days earlier than expected, and I am concerned about not only the pain, but w/d's, because I think that I am now physically dependent on the drug.
Avatar f tn my doctor gave me clonidine to take at night with my regurlar blood pressure medicine in the am and i read up on it and it said don't take with rx pain meds so I haven't but I also noticed that it is used for w/d's so how long do you have to wait after your out of pain meds can you start taking it?
Avatar m tn four years ago for pain management, not for detox. It took me almost 2 years to taper of of subox, but when I got down to 0.25mg, the doctor put me on this Clonidine. Is my feeling good only because of this new medication? Am I going to need to taper off of something else now? WTF? I really need to know because I want to be off of any and all medications and not dependent on something else.
1162610 tn?1262829016 I went to see my pain management doctor today to talk about getting me off hydrocodone. So, he's prescribed clonidine: 0.1 mg tab, 2 times a day to help with the withdrawal symptoms. He's also prescribed Tramadol 50 mg tab, 4 times a day. I also told him I had been depending on the hydrocodone to get to sleep, so he prescribed Ambien to help with that too.
1006065 tn?1251478669 I went off Fentanyl 1 week and 14 hours ago. I was given Clonidine and Vistaril for withdrawals. Couldn't take the Vistaril...caused more nervousness and anxiety (turns out I'm sensitive to it and to other meds in this class of drugs!) I took the Clonidine and my blood pressure came down so low, I could not hold myself up, I could not sit up and my head was so heavy it was on my chest.
Avatar m tn I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....

Avatar n tn Every day, a new complication. After about 4 months of using Clonodine patches, and changing it once a week as prescribed by my Pain Managment doctor, I started getting a severe skin reaction after only one day. Then, I would have to move the patch twice a day. My arm looks like a checkerboard with red, itchy patches. Well, the doctor said my skin developed an allergy to it and gave me a prescription for clonodine pills.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor offered to put you on Clonidine for the withdrawls? I work for a pain management practice and we can call in a script for Clonidine to help with the withdrawls. You might want to check into this. Good Luck! You can do it.
Avatar m tn So you waited until you were off the pain killer before you started on the clonidine, sorry about the mis-spell in my question. Did you take them for very long or just a couple of days until the worse was over? I noticed last night I had cut back from 3 a day to 2 and I took the clonidine about 8:30 and didn't know when I went to sleep but it didn't take long and then I woke up at about 4 AM sweating and got up and took a half a hydro.
5135507 tn?1367163227 I was on the same combo I couldn't even taper due to the w/d being so bad. I had to use suboxone to get off of them. I know there is a lot of different things that will help the w/d more tolerable. The only thing that I know that takes them away is suboxone. If you take suboxone then you have to taper of that its not comfortable but it's tolerable. The w/d are no where near as bad as the fentanyl patch. I was told the fentanyl patches is the 2nd hardest thing to w/d from.
Avatar n tn Most Docs are rather pitiful when addressing an addiction issue. May just send you to Pain Management --- or he may offer methadon or suboxone. My opinion is that you should get your Doc in the loop -- but you better also be ready to quit yourself. Practice courage and self control...read the Thomas Recipe and the Amino Acid Protocol listed at right hand side of page under Health Pages ----- And let us know what comes down ....

Avatar m tn It is normal. He is taking opiate pain killers which will mask the pain. Opiate withdrawls themselves are horrible! So he's feeling pain for both. Was he using the percs for pain relief or recreational? Opiate withdrawls will usually last 3 to 5 days with disrupted sleep for months after (in some cases) It sounds like he needs some sort of pain management the ISN'T opiate based. Good luck.
Avatar m tn It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?
Avatar f tn Was on norco for 1 year. I have hep c so norco is bad for your liver. My pain management doctor changed me to present. Better for my liver. But after 3 months I needed more per day because they stopped working at minimum dose. I decided to just start dosing down but that was hard also. I ended up throwing them out and just detoxing off them with clonidine. Took me a week too start feeling better. I am on week 3 and not taking anything.
