Also, the infection has been treated with numerous antibiotics (amoxicillin, flagyl, omnicef, augmentin, clindamycin), and all seem to help at first, but only clindamycin has lasting effects. Not even augmentin worked. Any idea on what kind of bacteria would respond to clindamycin but not augmentin?
I have been fighting a bone infection in my jaw for 6 months - it wasn't identified until this past month but I'd been very sick this whole time. This past month I finally found a good oral surgeon who removed the 2 teeth causing the problem, and cleaned out the bone underneath.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
But, when I was restarted on the clindamycin, the clindamycin worked better that time - more quickly - so maybe the Augmentin had been doing some good I don't know.
An MRI and another cat scan showed nothing but the same swelling from residual abscess and shotty lymph nodes. Immune system blood tests came back normal and showed no autoimmune disease.
A new oral surgeon took a better xray of the area.
I was then getting a lot of allergies and post nasal and was then coughing. Doctor prescribed Prednisone,Zithromax, Acyclovir [for cold sores] and Clindamycin cap 300 mg for sinus infection. Just lately I got acid reflux.... hard to swallow... even when I did it was bad... slight burning to severe burning feeling on the left hand side of my mid upper chest area. I went back again to see the doctor who told me the coughing, wheezing [which now both had stopped...
The DR. Prescribed me augmentin and the pain subsided until the meds were gone. Four days later on Thanksgiving all of the symptoms returned. I went to the ER again to get a different diagnosis or pharyngitis. I was prescribed clindamycin and prednisone. This prescription is taking longer to subdue my symptoms though I have only been on it one day. I was never administered a sti screening and I was wondering if I should get one. But can I get a sti screening while on antibiotics?
I have had dental abscesses before and clindamycin or avelox worked well for me. Hope the augmentin works, but if it doesn't try to get your Dr. to prescribe one of those two. Good luck.
So on the 19th, My wife was in a world of pain and really swollenafter 5 days of antibiotics. She’d taken amoxicillin and clindamycin and neither helped. She went to the surgeon and he did an I&D and extracted the tooth. He switched her to augmentin. By Monday the pain was worse, she couldn’t swallow, the cheek was bigger and she’d developed cellulitis so we went to the ED. They admitted her and on Tuesday they did another I&D and extracted 2 more teeth. They put a drain in as well.
I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?

I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.

It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
t seem to have problems with doxycycline, amoxicillin or clindamycin. Clindamycin destroys my stomach though. I avoid cipro and zithromax.
t do it, I will ask about the clindamycin....since I just spent $200+ on the augmentin I think I will try it...It would be a shame to waste that kind of $$!
Michelle-I love House! I didn't start watching it till a few years ago so I've been Tivo'ing old episodes...a LOT of them. I actually watched a ton of them while withdrawing while I was holed up in my room hiding from the world.
anyone else have side effects AFTER STOPPING augmentin after the full 10 day dose? I have been off for two days and have awful sweating and hot flashes. I am male, and in relatively good shape. bp has been in the 140/70 range for three days. odd stuff. Ive usually had plain ole amoxicillin, but this stuff takes the cake.
Hi, Iam 12wks pregnant. I was given augmentin sr tablets to treat a sinus infection. The doc said it's safe but I am scared to take it.
