Avatar m tn The dentist can prescribe based upon his clinical judgement but generally, clindamycin is prescribed at 150 to 300mg every 6 hours, with 300mg being a stronger dosage to kill bacteria. He may be concerned with some side effects of the antibiotics.
Avatar m tn So now I am on Vancomycin for the Colitis and 2 other medications for the diarrhea....If you look up Clindamycin you will see that it can cause Colitis.
Avatar n tn Hi..did doc suspect C-Diff? If so, let him know right away you've stopped the Flagyl. Stool tests will confirm, and clindamycin is the top "offending antibiotic" for causing C-Diff, which is treated with Flagyl or Vancomycin. The numbness could be a side effect from the Flagyl - nasty med but it is what you need to be taking if in fact C Diff is the culprit. Best of luck to you.
Avatar n tn After my hospital stay, I was sent home with Clindamycin and Ampicillin capsules to take for 5 days. I had diarrhea for 4 days straight and called the Dr. She told me to stop taking the medicines immediately. About 4 days later, I was stricken with severe abdominal cramping, nausea and watery diarrhea. I was rushed to the emergency room and had CT scans, abdominal XRays, and stool samples taken. I was diagnosed with C. diff.
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for MRSA for a week and then spent another month receiving vancomycin via central line. During my care, they gave me clindamycin and reframpin, both of which caused severe reactions: jaundice, severe upper right quadrant pain, bleeding ulcers, exacerbated asthma, severe weakness, febrile seizures, N/V, and skin reactions. Now my ALT levels are > 90.
Avatar f tn MRSA still respond to certain medications, including clindamycin and vancomycin. It is recommended that you follow the prescription dosage and time your doctor made to avoid any resistance to your present antibiotic. I also strongly advise that you have these sores evaluated by your doctor and to let him drain them properly. Try to avoid popping them yourself. MRSA bacteria enter the body through a cut or other wound. And the pus from infected sores may contain MRSA.
Avatar m tn I presented with only one sore at my cheekbone and was given clindamycin orally for 14 days and Bactroban ointment for topical use. The sore was believed to be an early indication of MRSA. I quickly developed cellulitis and swelling near, but not touching, the apparent abscess, as well as blisters in my nose. I used the mupiricin.(Bactroban) to keep the nasal blisters moist. Now diagnosed with post-herpetic neuralgia, but I still have blisters in my nose treating with Bactroban.
Avatar n tn 12 days later my knee swole up to the point I had to have another surgery to drain my knee (with a 12 in scar) I was hospitalized for 8 days and put on Vancomycin and Clindamycin and ended up with infections all over my body. Though they cultured what they found in my knee, they could not come up with a diagnosis. My skin broke out in a rash for weeks and my eyes also became infected, to the point I could not see and my contacts had to come out and my glasses didn't help with my sight.
Avatar f tn In October I did Clindamycin for a tooth infection. I've had four reoccurrences of C Diff since. Antibiotics alone are not curing......Flagyl and/or Vancomycin Eat live yogurts, probiotics all inbetween occurrences. When not episodic with D, still feeling terrible, swollen abdomen, abdominal pains, chronic fatigue............. Now what?
Avatar m tn yea, i had cdiff from taking antibiotics. I was in the hospital for two weeks, but some people have it for a very long time. Do not take anti-diarhea meds if you think you have cdiff.. it will make it worse... my situation it was pretty horrible. I am still not feeling well although I am not showing signs of cdiff in my stool. I have taken flagyl before, but not for cdiff. but because I have crohn's disease and I had an anal fistula. When I had cdiff i took vancomycin..
1070570 tn?1283436213 Enterococci also have acquired resistance, which includes resistance to penicillin by beta-lactamases, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines, rifampin, fluoroquinolones, aminoglycosides (high levels), and vancomycin. The genes that encode intrinsic or acquired vancomycin resistance result in a peptide to which vancomycin cannot bind; therefore, cell-wall synthesis is still possible.
Avatar n tn The next in line med is called vancomycin. Most recover with 1-2 rounds of antibiotics, so hang in there - it does get better. Each doctor seems to treat C Diff differently, but if you explain to yours the problems experienced with Flagyl, he/she may change you over to the vanco. Also, whenever you start then stop any antibiotic, you are upsetting your gut flora - which will only slow down your healing, as this is how C Diff thrives. Call your doc and soon, and www.cdiffsupport.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had an issue back in 2008 and ended up making the decision to live with the problem vs trying to cure it with every antibiotic available. I'd hate to give myself MRSA Staph.(2 more drugs and I'd have it living on me). I went back to get a check up and see if I still had strep v. Now I have two types. Both not stds but both from oral sex....sounds like an STD TO ME but eat do I know.
1125622 tn?1295420118 behind my right ear was swollen, in reaction to the scalp thing. I have a history of allergies to antibiotics, but as far as we knew I could tolerate Clindamycin. So she decide to prescribe me Clindamycin 300mg three times a day. I took the fist two doses okay, but then started feeling as if i might have a reation? The very next pill is the one that did it to me... as the advice nurse said if you can continue to take the medicine try to but that was about it for me.
Avatar f tn I have just finished a 14 day course of Vancomycin for a C. Diff. infection. I also have had a UTI that is caused by 2 bacteria--the Vancomycin should have taken care of one of those. However, the e.coli bacteria that came back positive on the lab sample has remained untreated due to the C. Diff. It has been asymptomatic until the last few days. Is there any safe way to treat the UTI when I may or may not still have C. Diff.
82861 tn?1333453911 They immediately started him on a round of Vancomycin (as he’s allergic to Penicillin) and will test again this morning to see if they’re making any progress. The doctors say that it’s a fairly common post-surgical infection, so we have hopes that they’ll wipe it out sooner rather than later. It’s been a long week and I really don’t feel like typing, but you get the jist of what’s going on with him.
Avatar n tn has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects. HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.
577106 tn?1219839345 In hospitals and care facilities, doctors often rely on the antibiotic vancomycin to treat resistant germs. CA-MRSA may be treated with vancomycin or other antibiotics that have proved effective against particular strains. Ref:http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn Been through over 1 boxes of Amodium AD, 3 Bottles of Kaopektate, 120 Metronidazole 500mg tabs, and 60 Vancomycin 125mg caps, so far. Vancomycin gets rid of the Abdominal pains for 6 or 7 days, but it comes right back. I have forgotten what a **** looks like. I want to kill my doctor! I se him again 4-18-2013. Anybody got any suggestions it would be Greatly Appreated. I would like to suggest something to him, I need Help! Tim R.
Avatar f tn I believe you are referring to a fecal transplant - a procedure not FDA approved. I asked about this in a Crohn's and Colitis forum a few days ago with several expert physicians. Their response is that the extreme doses of antibiotics to completely clear out all bacteria in the GI tract is extremely dangerous - possibly deadly. Much research also suggests that the bacteria in our GI has developed over our lifetime and removing it could cause more auto-immune issues than it fixes.
Avatar f tn I did have a root canal done on July 16th on my 2nd molar on the left side but it only offered mild relief of the jaw/tooth/ear pain. I was put on Clindamycin 150 mg 4 times a day for 10 days, I ended up developing severe diarrhea (sorry if TMI) and now I'm on Vancomycin Hydrochloride 250 mg 4 times for 10 days to clear up the havoc the clindamycin did on my digestive system. I also was just prescribed Protonix 40 mg once a day and I also take Zoloft 50 mg once a day and Ativan .
