Avatar m tn I had a MRSA infection two months ago and was treated by a dermatologist and infectious disease doctor. The major symptoms went away like the boil I got, however I still get mild folliculitis on my face (one or two infected hairs). I've been applying topical clindamycin twice a day and cleaning my sheets and towels regularly but I still get some folliculitis. Is this normal and will it go away eventually?
Avatar n tn I agree on the MRSA. Let your doctor know about them. They can run a test to see if it MRSA or not. It has to be treated with antibiotics. It's also highly contagious.
Avatar f tn Just quit working there a month ago because of this... I have had mrsa for a while now been on antibiotics for 2 months now doxycicline.

1467965 tn?1288901625 the more traditional healthcare-associated (HA-) MRSA infections, CA-MRSA can be treated with more drugs than HA-MRSA including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin. CA-MRSA is typically associated with skin and wound infections, In the UK, it is called Golden Staph. We see quite a bit a CA-MRSA in the US in football, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey players and it has been linked to skin abrasions caused by artificial turf.
Avatar f tn Hello, my boyfriend, who lives in another country, has been sick for a few weeks. It started with what seemed to be a cold or flu, but he has been getting worse. His throat has been very sore. A couple weeks ago a doctor gave him antibiotics without doing a test, the prescription was for 5 days, unfortunately he doesn't remember which antibiotic it was. His throat was still hurting and he said he could see pus, so I told him he should get tested for strep.
441951 tn?1275762988 A MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureous) infection is obviously resistant to Penicillin....so your doctor should have given you something different to get rid of it. Like Bactrim which is a Sulfa drug.....or intravenous meds.
Avatar n tn The only precautions given was the he needed to wash his hands if he touched my mrsa infected eye. They gave me a 7 day prescription for 2 oral antibiotics, cipro and clindamycin hcl plus bacitracin ointment. Is this treatment going to be effective and is my live in boy friend in danger of getting MRSA?
Avatar f tn I have not heard of Primacine for the treatment of MRSA, usually antibiotics such as Clindamycin(oral), Cephalexin(oral), Vancomycin(IV) there’s some other IV antibiotics besides Vanco that can be given Vanco is just the most common with the highest success rate. I must add washing with hot water is good however you can wash with not so hot water and always add liquid bleach. Keep a spray bottle of equal parts bleach/H2O to use on surfaces.
Avatar m tn aureus infection is penicillin. The infection could sometimes be MRSA, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus infection is treated by draining the sore and bactrim. Did you ensure to take the medication regularly? Have you completed the course of the medication prescribed? As unfinished doses can further lead to resistance. But your present symptoms of persistent swelling indicate that you are not responding to bactrim and that the infection is spreading.
Avatar m tn The blotches on my shin are smooth and under my skin, which my physician has said is abnormal for mrsa. I did get the final report back and it was positive for MRSA and coagulase- negative staphylococcus aureus. I'be switched to another antibiotic since it was resistant to what I was taking. I'll try to push for a CBC to see what's going on. As for the weight loss, the only thing I've changed is that I have been eating more bananas and a small bowl of salad greens with lunch.
Avatar n tn Hi all--this is the first time I've been on this forum, but I need some advice with a staph infection I've had for 3 weeks. I woke up with what looked like an ingrown hjair with a whitehead under my arm 4 saturdays ago--by evening my armpit was swollen. The next day i new I had a problem, I was guessing MRSA, which I had 3 years ago because of how quickly it got so swollen.
Avatar n tn t get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
Avatar m tn The sinus flush part was for the left side infection. Yes, continue with antibiotics for the dental infection, as those follow the usual medical model for infections.
487969 tn?1249313291 OMG - when does it end!! So, off of the clindamycin and on to Leviquin 1 x a day for 10 days. That is much better than the every 8 hrs, I must say. The final result was staph - just plain staph, that was resistent to clindamycin. They don't have a lot of antiboitic choices for me since I am deathly allergic to penicillin. Leviquin must do the trick. The little one is still running fever but I figured it out. She has swollen tonsils but says her throat does not hurt.
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for MRSA for a week and then spent another month receiving vancomycin via central line. During my care, they gave me clindamycin and reframpin, both of which caused severe reactions: jaundice, severe upper right quadrant pain, bleeding ulcers, exacerbated asthma, severe weakness, febrile seizures, N/V, and skin reactions. Now my ALT levels are > 90.
Avatar n tn I got my culture back last Thursday afternoon of last week and it came back that MRSA was resistant to Clindamycin. Doxycycline was not so she put me back on Doxycycline and also Rifampin. I developed a rash all around my neck with small pimples that same Thursday. She took a biopsy Monday and I should have the results today. She gave me some creams and prescribed a soap to bathe in that would kill the staph on my skin. I have also been having night sweats for the last two months.
Avatar m tn The doctors informed me that I am a MRSA carrier and I have to take antibiotics a week before and after any surgery. As for why the cysts always get infected, typically when the cyst is located at a high friction area like your groin or hips, it inflames the gland. Hope this helps. As far as preventing them, I haven't found anything that works. The doctor said I'm prone to them and will continue getting them for the rest of my life. It *****, but at least they're not cancerous.
Avatar n tn Approximately 50% of HIV-infected persons are nasal carriers of S. aureus, explaining in part the high rate of infection.(4,5) Infection with S. aureus may occur before any other signs or symptoms of HIV infection. Morphologic patterns that may occur include: bullous impetigo, ecthyma, folliculitis, hidradenitis-like plaques, abscesses, cellulitis, and pyomyositis.
Avatar n tn i am being treated for possible infection of Chlamydia and gonorrhea. I understand its common to treat for both when one is suspected. My problem is that i don't handle antibiotics well. azithromycin is not an option for me. doxycycline is not great either. So the dr. has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
Avatar m tn Greetings, I've been having recurring MRSA infections on my skin, mostly on my head/neck/face and a few on my arms. The first couple were diagnosed as cellulitis (as no cultures were taken) and were treated with Bactrim the first time, and Augmentin the second time. The third time I went into the Doctor, I requested a culture and was confirmed to be a case of MRSA. I was then given a double dose of Bactrim and sent on my way.
