Avatar m tn I had a MRSA infection two months ago and was treated by a dermatologist and infectious disease doctor. The major symptoms went away like the boil I got, however I still get mild folliculitis on my face (one or two infected hairs). I've been applying topical clindamycin twice a day and cleaning my sheets and towels regularly but I still get some folliculitis. Is this normal and will it go away eventually?
Avatar n tn Thanks! And I can't use neosporin as it gives me a rash....had an appointment today...my doctor believes it is a staph infection so I now taking clindamycin.
Avatar f tn I was on Bactrim for a skin infection and got swelling too. They said it was an allergic rx and put me on Clindamycin. If they put you on this stuff (very strong) make sure you take a good probiotic with it to prevent getting C-Diff. Good luck..
Avatar f tn Hello, in 2005 my mother was diagnosed with MRSA due to drainage from a back surgery and one day she woke up not feeling good and when we got her to hospital MRSA had invaded her entire body and my mom almost died. However the MRSA caused her to loose her ability to walk, control her bowel and bladder and it destroyed the nerves and after having MRSA, she constantly got infections of other kinds.
Avatar n tn About 75 percent of CA-MRSA infections are localized to skin and soft tissue and usually can be treated effectively.CA-MRSA has a greater spectrum of antimicrobial susceptibility, including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines, and clindamycin. ref:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRSA This could be a symptom of MRSA or it could also be an allergy or a fungal infection. Dust the toes with anti-fungal powder and take ANTI-HISTAMINES .
1467965 tn?1288901625 the more traditional healthcare-associated (HA-) MRSA infections, CA-MRSA can be treated with more drugs than HA-MRSA including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin. CA-MRSA is typically associated with skin and wound infections, In the UK, it is called Golden Staph. We see quite a bit a CA-MRSA in the US in football, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey players and it has been linked to skin abrasions caused by artificial turf.
Avatar m tn Hi all, I have had this nasty skin infection for over 4 years now that won't go away. I believe I got it at a university dorm (which had black mold and other unsanitary things). It forms primarily on my arms as red boils (generally comes to the surface like a pimple) with inflammation and pus, takes months to heal, and quickly multiplies into multiple sores. Though generally on the arms, it has also spread to my chest, legs, and even cheek in past (active sores currently on arms).
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for MRSA for a week and then spent another month receiving vancomycin via central line. During my care, they gave me clindamycin and reframpin, both of which caused severe reactions: jaundice, severe upper right quadrant pain, bleeding ulcers, exacerbated asthma, severe weakness, febrile seizures, N/V, and skin reactions. Now my ALT levels are > 90.
Avatar f tn it started before he got the antibiotic though, and before the MRSA throat infection was diagnosed. And this all started with what I thought was a virus. Do you think he should get a sputum culture, and is that even possible when he's not coughing? Thanks again for all your advice, you've been very helpful, which is very much appreciated.. it makes this a lot harder that he's in another country and I can't talk to the doctors there.
441951 tn?1275762988 When I turned down the Interferon on the basis that I needed to first address the infection and regain some condition both mentally and physically, the clinic wished me luck and it was back to the G.P. I've tried all the alternative therapy's. At the moment I'm force feeding myself Manuka honey and slathering on the UMF15+ Manuka cream. If I stop the antibiotics the infection turns my lymph nodes to rocks and is back with a vengeance within days.
Avatar m tn red burning itchy patchy oozing areas on thighs and under testicles. Let me tell you guys, this is hell... ITCHING AND BURNING and the ooze just makes for thinking you pee'd yourself a little.... Wasn't getting any better so i bought Lamisil Spray for it about 5 days ago. Been spraying once at night as directed, wearing really loose airy gym shorts, showering once a day. not using harsh soap that would burn or irritate what little skin i had left there.
Avatar n tn They gave me a 7 day prescription for 2 oral antibiotics, cipro and clindamycin hcl plus bacitracin ointment. Is this treatment going to be effective and is my live in boy friend in danger of getting MRSA?
Avatar m tn aureus infection is penicillin. The infection could sometimes be MRSA, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus infection is treated by draining the sore and bactrim. Did you ensure to take the medication regularly? Have you completed the course of the medication prescribed? As unfinished doses can further lead to resistance. But your present symptoms of persistent swelling indicate that you are not responding to bactrim and that the infection is spreading.
Avatar f tn The abscesses can allow bacteria to reach the bloodstream which can be very dangerous. The infection can travel through the blood and infect the vital organs such as the heart and lungs. MRSA pneumonia is a serious complication of this virus which infects the lungs. The best thing you can do is catch the infection before it gets into the bloodstream. This means looking for skin infections before they become abscessed.
Avatar m tn The blotches on my shin are smooth and under my skin, which my physician has said is abnormal for mrsa. I did get the final report back and it was positive for MRSA and coagulase- negative staphylococcus aureus. I'be switched to another antibiotic since it was resistant to what I was taking. I'll try to push for a CBC to see what's going on. As for the weight loss, the only thing I've changed is that I have been eating more bananas and a small bowl of salad greens with lunch.
Avatar n tn The doctor probably was concerned that you might get another infection called Clostridium difficile, which has a toxin and can come out and give you bad diarrhea and then other problems. So, he took you off the drug. But, Instead I would suggest also that you take probiotics for a few months. They have the pills at various places like Costco or some pharmacies and probably GNC or vitamin stores. These probiotics should be at 10 billion active cultures or CFU. They compete with C.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your response. May I also ask what length of time would I take the Biaxin? And is there any home treatment, Like garlic pills etc. that would help augment healing? ( since Biaxin is not considered the best treatment.) Although I'm stuck with that. And frankly, I was on the Clindamycin for weeks and that didn't get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
Avatar m tn Eight days ago I woke up with an abscess on my leg in the groin area, opposite of my testicles. My wife and I promptly went to the doctor and it turned out to be a mrsa infection. The sore was drained of puss and I have been antibiotics taking them on time and will continue to take them on time until they are gone. My question is: what should we do so that we can continue to have sex without transferring the bacteria to my wife?
577106 tn?1219839345 Many people with active infections are treated effectively, and no longer have MRSA. However, sometime MRSA goes away after treatment and comes back several times. If MRSA infections keep coming back again and again, your doctor can help you figure out the reasons you keep getting them." everyone is still telling me that my doctor is a quack and I will always have this infection. The doctor also told me that this was a very common infection and that it is a big problem in the schools.
487969 tn?1249313291 OMG went to the followup consult with the surgeon that oversaw my inpatient care and IT IS NNNOOOTTTT MRSA ------ ITS MSSA! He said the infection is cleared from the surgical site and I am basically cured. Have to finish the antibiotics (Levaquin) then I am all healed. Miraculous! Marched my bum to the gyn office and told them they told me the wrong information and said I see them tomorrow. Feeling good today!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a bladder infection and a vaginal infection. I assume its bacterial vaginosis because my doctor prescribed Bactrim and Metrogel. But because I have Raynaud's Syndrome, I can't use Metrogel. So my doctor has now prescribed Cipro. But how would either one help with the vaginosis? And as for the bladder infection, couldn't I just take one because they both treat UTIs?
Avatar n tn I got my culture back last Thursday afternoon of last week and it came back that MRSA was resistant to Clindamycin. Doxycycline was not so she put me back on Doxycycline and also Rifampin. I developed a rash all around my neck with small pimples that same Thursday. She took a biopsy Monday and I should have the results today. She gave me some creams and prescribed a soap to bathe in that would kill the staph on my skin. I have also been having night sweats for the last two months.
Avatar n tn i just found out she has these acne like spot on her face and shoulder. She say it body ance. I read the bottle of cream she uses and its Clindamycin. I looked it up and it say it is use to treat acne and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus common in people who are hiv + ? She also has vigoligo. Couple week ago i broke out with the same kind of acne she has. I have test neg in june .
Avatar m tn The doctors informed me that I am a MRSA carrier and I have to take antibiotics a week before and after any surgery. As for why the cysts always get infected, typically when the cyst is located at a high friction area like your groin or hips, it inflames the gland. Hope this helps. As far as preventing them, I haven't found anything that works. The doctor said I'm prone to them and will continue getting them for the rest of my life. It *****, but at least they're not cancerous.
Avatar m tn I have spoken to my family in the UK and searched the internet and can nothing about taking milk based products and antibiotics together. Is this a German idea? Please can you offer some information.
Avatar n tn i am being treated for possible infection of Chlamydia and gonorrhea. I understand its common to treat for both when one is suspected. My problem is that i don't handle antibiotics well. azithromycin is not an option for me. doxycycline is not great either. So the dr. has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
