Avatar m tn I had a MRSA infection two months ago and was treated by a dermatologist and infectious disease doctor. The major symptoms went away like the boil I got, however I still get mild folliculitis on my face (one or two infected hairs). I've been applying topical clindamycin twice a day and cleaning my sheets and towels regularly but I still get some folliculitis. Is this normal and will it go away eventually?
Avatar n tn I agree on the MRSA. Let your doctor know about them. They can run a test to see if it MRSA or not. It has to be treated with antibiotics. It's also highly contagious.
Avatar n tn The only precautions given was the he needed to wash his hands if he touched my mrsa infected eye. They gave me a 7 day prescription for 2 oral antibiotics, cipro and clindamycin hcl plus bacitracin ointment. Is this treatment going to be effective and is my live in boy friend in danger of getting MRSA?
Avatar f tn hi everyone. i have mrsa, been taking clindamycin 300 mg every 6 hours for 4 months now. it cleared up, went to 2 pills a day, and they all poped up again. they are dark, and when i pop them, for the first time puss is draining. doc says don't pick, but they hurt and get bigger unless i pop them. for 4 months it was just blood. there is a hard dot in the middle it hurts, but then it is relief. any comments???Please....
1467965 tn?1288901625 the more traditional healthcare-associated (HA-) MRSA infections, CA-MRSA can be treated with more drugs than HA-MRSA including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin. CA-MRSA is typically associated with skin and wound infections, In the UK, it is called Golden Staph. We see quite a bit a CA-MRSA in the US in football, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey players and it has been linked to skin abrasions caused by artificial turf.
Avatar f tn Just quit working there a month ago because of this... I have had mrsa for a while now been on antibiotics for 2 months now doxycicline.
Avatar m tn I had a nasal swab test done four years ago which came back positive for staph aureus, though doctors did not mention MRSA. Over the next few years I went to other doctors and a dermatologist, given such medications as bactrim, clindamycin, doxycyclin, mupirocin ointment, etc. None have worked. I went to a primary care doctor last week who performed a general bacterial culture on one of the sores I squeezed and sent of to the lab.
Avatar m tn since that day, i sweared that i will not prescribe clindamycin(or at least with 4timed daily dosing!!!!
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for MRSA for a week and then spent another month receiving vancomycin via central line. During my care, they gave me clindamycin and reframpin, both of which caused severe reactions: jaundice, severe upper right quadrant pain, bleeding ulcers, exacerbated asthma, severe weakness, febrile seizures, N/V, and skin reactions. Now my ALT levels are > 90.
Avatar n tn I got my culture back last Thursday afternoon of last week and it came back that MRSA was resistant to Clindamycin. Doxycycline was not so she put me back on Doxycycline and also Rifampin. I developed a rash all around my neck with small pimples that same Thursday. She took a biopsy Monday and I should have the results today. She gave me some creams and prescribed a soap to bathe in that would kill the staph on my skin. I have also been having night sweats for the last two months.
Avatar m tn The doctors informed me that I am a MRSA carrier and I have to take antibiotics a week before and after any surgery. As for why the cysts always get infected, typically when the cyst is located at a high friction area like your groin or hips, it inflames the gland. Hope this helps. As far as preventing them, I haven't found anything that works. The doctor said I'm prone to them and will continue getting them for the rest of my life. It *****, but at least they're not cancerous.
Avatar f tn I have had multiple MRSA infections for over 2 years. The symptoms I have are cellulitis and abcesses. Ive been on oral antibiotics for 2 years, IV antibiotics several times, and have had at least 20 infections I & D. I have had them everywhere but majority of them have been under my arm. I recently had surgery under my arms for MRSA related hydranitis supprativa (sp)? Will I ever get rid of this ? Is there any cure ? all my cultures have came back positive for MRSA.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
Avatar m tn The blotches on my shin are smooth and under my skin, which my physician has said is abnormal for mrsa. I did get the final report back and it was positive for MRSA and coagulase- negative staphylococcus aureus. I'be switched to another antibiotic since it was resistant to what I was taking. I'll try to push for a CBC to see what's going on. As for the weight loss, the only thing I've changed is that I have been eating more bananas and a small bowl of salad greens with lunch.
Avatar f tn I have not heard of Primacine for the treatment of MRSA, usually antibiotics such as Clindamycin(oral), Cephalexin(oral), Vancomycin(IV) there’s some other IV antibiotics besides Vanco that can be given Vanco is just the most common with the highest success rate. I must add washing with hot water is good however you can wash with not so hot water and always add liquid bleach. Keep a spray bottle of equal parts bleach/H2O to use on surfaces.
441951 tn?1275762988 Thank you both. Trinity, painful, yes like multiple corkscrews to the head. Drop kick away! CoWriter, excellent to have some sound pratical advise. So grateful to you for taking the time to reply. When the first cysts arrived I started using an Alcohol gel wash for hands and upped my Hep C safe practises accordingly. Seperating my washing etc. I wear a hat 24/7 and wash my hair daily with a dandruff shampoo. I have 3 children and am determined not to share this with any of them.
487969 tn?1249313291 OMG - when does it end!! So, off of the clindamycin and on to Leviquin 1 x a day for 10 days. That is much better than the every 8 hrs, I must say. The final result was staph - just plain staph, that was resistent to clindamycin. They don't have a lot of antiboitic choices for me since I am deathly allergic to penicillin. Leviquin must do the trick. The little one is still running fever but I figured it out. She has swollen tonsils but says her throat does not hurt.
Avatar m tn Hoping that Clindamycin will work...If the Clindamycin does not work...is there another medicine that could do the trick?
Avatar f tn I get the same exact blistered infected bubble/blister on my index finger atleast 2x a yr and well ive been told its mrsa cellitus abscess and herpetic whitlow......everytime i get this i do not open up the blister but a red streak goes up to my shoulder.i just got another one 3days ago n yesterday went to er because i knew i need iv antibotics to stop red streak...
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I apologize Grace. Thank you for your answer. The Doc didn't take a swab or test for MRSA however he was concerned. He prescribed Bactrim DS. 8 days into the 10 day regime I had a horrible reaction. Fever, pain with eye movement and finally a slight rash. I'm taking Clindamycin 3x a day now. If this thing recurs once more (my left leg hurts off and on) I'm going back to get DEFINITIVE action taken. I'm a corporate pilot which requires I sit for long periods.
Avatar m tn I presented with only one sore at my cheekbone and was given clindamycin orally for 14 days and Bactroban ointment for topical use. The sore was believed to be an early indication of MRSA. I quickly developed cellulitis and swelling near, but not touching, the apparent abscess, as well as blisters in my nose. I used the mupiricin.(Bactroban) to keep the nasal blisters moist. Now diagnosed with post-herpetic neuralgia, but I still have blisters in my nose treating with Bactroban.
Avatar n tn Dear sir/madam, I am writing this letter to get advice and help regarding my scalp folliculitis. I’ve had this condition for the past 6 years. I’ve tried different treatments including antibiotics like Amoxicillin, erythromycin, minocycline, tetracycline, doxicycline, & ciprofloxacin each course taken for at least 6 months to 1 year. I have also tried topical treatment like Fucidin, Mupirocin, clindamycin and gentamicin.
Avatar m tn Afternoon. I have had cellulitis in my nose for over a month.... took Bactrim, Clindamycin, and another 5 days of Bactrim.. which didn't help in the first place... but... i have this swollen membrane (i guess) from the tip of my nose about 1/2 inch back... it always feels like it is going to swell up again.... with no insurance another 125.00 is not what I want to pay since it seems like none of that helped anyway... anybody have any thoughts on this one???
