Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all.
Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.

So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
I have been feeling bad for months now and a Dr pricked my finger and said it was to test my blood for h.pylori..it was positive so she Gave me amoxicillin (4 a day),prilosec(40mg 1 day)& clarithromycin (2, day)& I got pribiotics(1 day)..I looked up interactions of clarithromycin and now I'm too scared to take that one..I've just started last night and I'm only taking all except the clathromycin.. Can that get rid of the h.pylori?

Pylori is 1000mg (1g) of Amoxicillin combined with 500mg of clarithromycin and PPI in your case Lansoprazole 30 mg - 2 times a day.
Are you allergic to any drugs? For examples penicillins? then maybe your doctor meant to write metronidazole 500mg as there is another type of treatment for penicillin allergic patients which includes metronidazole 500mg + clarithromycin 500mg + PPI.
s genetics where people need to remember for a lifetime not to eat certain things. Some medicines say you can take them with or without food. If so, then I always take mine right after I eat, altho you may do better taking them before. Try both ways and see if it helps dull the bitterness. Then I'll brush my teeth and drink a sweet soda after my pills, clears the palate.
But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter.
Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act?
There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time.

About a month ago I was prescribed a course of Clarithromycin for a skin infection. Since taking the drug I've suffered huge surges of adrenaline, which kicks in like a lighting shot at the point of sleep. It kept me away many nights and I was beside myself with worry. It's now more than three weeks since I stopped the medication (I only completed 2.5 days out of 7) and I find that the adrenaline surges have subsided somewhat.

Hi, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection a few weeks ago and prescribed a z-pack, which I took with no issues. Hi, the main side effect of therapy with clarithromycin is diarrhea; this is because this medicine tends to kill the normally residing flora in the gut like lactobacillus acidophillus (good bacteria) that helps with digestion. This can result in diarrhea. So, your loose stools could be due to therapy. For this you need to take probiotics to replace these bacteria. I get this strange taste in my mouth its kinda gross tasting then I get this dizzy feeling but im not really dizzy im more of the feeling that im walking around in a daze ..I went to ER already and they couldn't find anything wrong with me ..it sometimes lasts for a few minutes to several hours. My only concern was that if i was exposed to syphilis during the oral exposure and gave it to my partner even with the antibiotic treatment I was on(clarithromycin then doxycycline) and essentially that could have been what the lesion was on her rectum. However I assume those odds are very very low.
