Avatar m tn I am currently taking Clarithromycin and recently had unprotected sex what are the chances of catching an std This discussion is related to Clarithromycin and STD.

Avatar m tn Welcome to the Forum As I read your post, your only unprotected exposure was performing oral sex on one of your partners. This would not cause either the urinary tract or anal symptoms that you have noted. When condoms are applied prior to sex and do not break, condom protected sex is safe sex and not associated with meaningful risk for infection. (Incidentally, if the condoms used appeared intact following sex, they were- when condoms fail they break wide open.
Avatar n tn If you had gotten gonorrhea or NGU you would have most likely developed symptoms of urethritis (penile infection). Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection. In your case, you had a single exposure; I would urge you not to worry.
Avatar m tn He said even if I have an std clarithromycin should clear it up its a very strong anti-bacterial antibiotic. Is this true?
Avatar m tn you should be pursuing proper std testing to cover your bases. You know this partner had at least 1 std so cover all your bases with a full std screening since this was unprotected sex - chlamydia and gonorrhea and syphilis can be tested for now. You'll need to wait another month to cover your bases for herpes and hiv. no, you might not have an abnormal urine dip at this point if you were infected.
Avatar n tn You can visit the STD community where average people with knowledge on STD can help answer your questions and you can go into the search field and look that way because chances are this question has been asked and answered several times.

Avatar m tn We’ve been married 10 years now and aside from the one oral sex incident neither of us has been with any other people sexually. I went to the doctor who dismissed an STD and gave clarithromycin. Two weeks after finishing the antibiotics, I still had this drip after urinating but less discomfort so I got tested for gonorrhea and Chlamydia again—both negative. Here are my questions: 1. How likely is it that I was infected to begin with? 2.
Avatar m tn I am a straight male. On the 13th of December, I went to see a urologist as I had had some UTI-type symptoms for a week or so (I didn't suspect Chlamydia or any STD for that matter at the time, as I have had few sexual partners, and always use condoms - also not a big fan of receiving oral sex).
Avatar f tn So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
Avatar m tn I had multiple unprotected oral sex exposures between 28th Feb and 6th Mar with CSWs in Thailand (Vaginal sex was always condom protected). Three days ago I had a full STD screening done wherein I gave a urine sample and a throat swab. Yesterday I gave blood samples for early detection STD tests using RNA PCR. My urine and throat swab PCR test results came back yesterday. I'm clear of Gonnorrhea and Clamydia however I tested positive for Mycoplasma Hominis and Mycoplasma Genitalium.
Avatar n tn I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems. by H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D., Jun 11, 2007 12:00AM Directly to your questions: 1) Both azithromycin and penicillin are 100% effective in curing incubating syphilis.
Avatar n tn Will Levaquin take care of NGU? I have 750 mg prescription from a doctor for sinus? How long would I have to take it? I also have 500 mg prescription of Clarithromycin as well.
Avatar f tn I had unprotected oral sex about 3 months back. This is what has been worrying me. I did some STD tests..like gonococci urine, RPR/VDRL, hcv(anti), hbs(Age), hiv 1+2 (elisa/eclia), chlamydia antibody Igm and IgG. All the results came negative. Did a normal throat swab as well. The results came back normal bacterial flora of mouth. Should I do a specific throat swab test for chlamydia gonorrhea herpes and syphillis? Are there any names for such tests?
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.
Avatar f tn I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Niacin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin.
Avatar m tn Also experiencing sensation of sitting on a golf ball in the perirectal area at times. GP did not seem concerned, no tests, but gave me clarithromycin/metronidazole 10 day dose and symptoms(mostly penile tip pain sometimes hours at a time) still persist. Could you please offer advise as to whether this could be a ureaplasm or myco? No way this is NG/Chlam right? Do I need any further tests, treatments, follow up?? My GP does not seem to be an expert in this area .
Avatar f tn Almost every std site and government info site says the m gen can be acquired though oral sex. However, if you read the scientific literature, it says that the have not been able to detect it in the throat of people. Most notably sex workers and men who have sex with men. I have also read on the expert forum on this website and in 2014 Dr Hunter Mansfiled has also said that oral transmission is not possible and has never been documented. Why would all the other websites say this.
Avatar n tn erythromycin, minocycline and sulphamethoxazole) has demonstrated poor efficacy and high relapse rates. (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.
1138687 tn?1548643978 A different doctor changed my prescription from Doxy to Clarithromycin, as I work outside but told her I am managing the sun well as I cover up thoroughly. Well I am not even working that much during meds as they drag me down so i can certainly get away with Doxy.
