Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram for 5 weeks now for my anxiety. I upped the dosage from 20mg to 40mg a week ago but have just been feeling mind numb since. is it possible for the meds to take longer to start working?
1302779 tn?1287405029 Citalopram is prescribed for a number of disorders, the primary one being depression. The dosage schedule in the PDR for depression is: 20mg daily am or pm, may increase if needed to 40mg/day after 1 week; maintenance; after 6-8 weeks of initial treatment, continure for 24 weeks (32 weeks total), reevaluate long term usefulness (maximum dose 60mg) Fibromyalgia.....40mg for 4 weeks Hepatic dose/geriatic.....20mg may increase to 40mg/day if no response Panic disorder.....
Avatar f tn Hi guys - I 've been suffering from GAD for some time now and I've been taking citalopram for 2 weeks. I have dizzy spells during the day that come and go- I'm getting bit nervous cos of it- is this a normal side effect of the citalopram? Thanks !
1110049 tn?1409402144 I think you'll get more responses on the anxiety and depression forums. I take it, but a low dose as I started tapering off a long long time ago and had to stop because of health problems that keep coming and I don't want to be in withdrawal facing them. It hasn't worked for me, but it was a long shot since my biggest problem now is what quitting Paxil did to me -- I didn't take it before that.
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram 20mg for just under 3weeks for my anxiety. just wondered if anyone had any good results from this medication and how long it took to work?
Avatar m tn I hate taking medicines which only seems to make my anxiety worse. I am already on 10 mg of citalopram a day for my depression and take it every night. So when I had an attack earlier today took half of the lorazepam (.25) instead of the full dose being the weirdo that I am. That was four and a half hours ago. Knowing my doctor knows I am on both of these medications I forced myself to take my citalopram now before bed.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn I have been on citalopram long term for 12 years however after a really severe depressive episode my mood has lifted a bit but my anxiety has been elevated as my doctor decided to change my dose 6 times in 8 weeks. I've been on an even dose for 5 weeks now but things haven't really improved, I was given diazepam but I was resistant to take it because of its addictiveness.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me Effexor XR and I got my prescription filled but before taking it I decided to do some research about this drug. The withdral and side affects scared me so I decided agains this drug. Then doctor priscribed me Citalopram and I've been taking it since. I have been taking citalopram 20mg a day for about 3 months. At the time of my visits to the doctor I had an insurance that covered my drugs, now I don't have my insurance any longer.
Avatar f tn s now been 4 weeks since I took my last citalopram and nothing has changed. How long can the side effects from the citalopram affect the Wellbutrin?
Avatar f tn Hey..just made this profile as after two years of suffering depression I finally got the courage to go to the doctors yesterday and he said I had servere depression and anxiety and prescribed me on Citalopram 20mg .... Does anyone else take this? I'm doing this all alone, not told family or friends and I'm scared of doing this on my own.. Any advice from anyone who is/has been on Citalopram please?
Avatar f tn i have had depression for 5 years and am treated with citalopram 40mg at times i get such bad anxiety and nausea and dizziness icant really connect it to any depressive episodes though i do feel sick when my nerves are bad also does anyone know how to wean yourself off medication very slowly
Avatar f tn You might want to talk to your Dr about trying you on something else. What dose are you on? Some Drs will start you on a small dose and work up to a higher one while others will start you on a high dose. We're all so different and react to the same meds differently. If this keeps up for another couple of days call your Dr and ask to be taken off this med and tried on something else. You can't keep vomiting and getting dehydrated.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I'm a sixteen year old girl with really bad anxiety and OCD. When I was a little kid, I had a phobia of choking for four years, which got so bad that I stopped eating solid food entirely, and had panic attacks if I was around "choking hazards" (small toys, beads, etc). It was mainly about breathing, not choking itself, since I was also very scared of drowning, suffocating, having a heart attack, etc.
Avatar f tn I was recently on Citalopram 20 mg and went a week on 10mg and then went cold turkey and now i have so many side effects i just want it to go away! I am dizzy all the time my legs keep me awake at night and my emotions are off the scale right now! i cant afford the medication any more and have none and now i dont know what to do??? Can anyone help me????
Avatar m tn Hi, I been a user of citalopram for the past 4 years. Recently this past year I have noticed that it hasn't been working quite as well for me like it has in the past. I now feel like it doesn't work for me anymore. I feel worse and heavily depressed more than ever before in my life. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this? and if so which different med worked for you?
Avatar n tn it may take the edge off the panic attacks, what dose were you on before? i was on Citalopram for only a week, it gave me side effects, but i was only on 10mg, funny thing is my anxiety started to go and i felt better mentally but i then developed side effects to it that were too much.... what a kick in the f***y eh.... Maybe the dose you were on before wasn't enough for your body. If you go back onto it maybe the dose could be increased to suit you more.
695983 tn?1242774124 If you been on the meds for a while then you are getting ill, chances are it's not the med. Have you been on other meds in this class before? Citalopram is a good drug and the side effects are pretty minimal for most. I would get a full check up to make sure you rule out bladder/kidneys infections. Anxiety can cause tummy troubles, I've had the trots from anxiety in the past, and I've had peed more from that as well.
1556337 tn?1341708611 not too long ago i went dowstairs to grab a painkiller for my headache, i picked out my citalopram box without noticing, grabbed a pill out and swallowed it. Now i'm fretting like mad!, my last dose was about 9:30pm last night (GMT i'm UK) and i took this one 1:10pm today...i take 20mg normally. I hope i'm gonna be okay!, heard some nasty things that can happen doubling up or taking one too early!, what should i do?, Nerves all over the place with worry!
Avatar f tn I'm completely freaking out. I have General Anxiety Disorder and I don't think my medication is working. I've been on Citalopram (20mg) since March but my panic attacks are becoming more frequent, I'm sweating, trembling, my heart is beating super fast, I have really bad nausea, and I'm either sleeping too much or not at all. I'm terrified I'm going to fail my exams because I've been missing so many classes due to these symptoms. Help!

Avatar n tn I have just started taking Citalopram for Depression and Anxiety in the last few weeks. I've forgotten again to ask my doctor whether I can drink taking the medication. My dose is 30mg per day at the minute if this has anything to do with it. I don't want to go on a binge drinking session I just want to know if I can have a few drinks pints when out. Can anybody with experience of taking Citalopram help me out with whether there are any effects?
335728 tn?1331414412 I just have a quick question about antidepressants and state of mind. I have been on Citalopram since about 2007 and I am wondering if they might have something to do with my feeling of "I really don't care"? It seems that things that would normally upset me now makes me feel indifferent and I don't particularly like it. Most of my friends are no more, partly due to me not giving a hoot about them or what they need.
1622040 tn?1299040059 t worry about the treatment, although if I were you I might discuss with my doctor whether your depression could be managed with a lower dose - citalopram is nowhere near as addictive as the older AD drugs, but you will still experience side-effects when you come off it. If you DO start to feel worse, or feel suicidal, make an emergency appointment with your doctor AT ONCE. You are very young and antidepressants are a very easy solution for doctors to prescribe.
