Avatar n tn General anesthesia would only be used in a patient that is combative (eg mental illness, Alzheimer's disease, infant or child. Local anesthesia is much less dangerous, less expensive, and its very hard to justify doing anyone under general. Also many surgicenters just cannot do general because they have a RN do the anesthesia not a MD anesthesiologist.
822279 tn?1239567972 My dentist has said she may need to do root canal surgery but due to the lack of anaesthetic block she can achieve on my tooth I might have to have a general anaesthetic. Has anyone with POTS had an anaesthetic and how was you experience with it?
Avatar n tn Surgical debridement, which entails lancing and flushing the cavity with saline, often under a local lidocaine anaesthetic, is the treatment of choice, followed by a broad spectrum antibiotic, or ideally, an antibiotic that has been selected based upon a culture of the bacteria. The lancing and flushing are relatively painless, and usually necessary.
Avatar f tn what effect can you get when stop taking binovum and citalopram as i have been experiencing some side effect and was wondering if its because of the tablets
Avatar n tn m 16, and my doctor has said i need to have a cyst removed from the inside of my eyelid. I was wondering what the procedure for this would be? And would I be put under general or local anaesthetic during this procedure? Also, I'm in the UK if that would make any difference.
Avatar f tn Nope, it's general anaesthetic. I double checked today. I'm not sure why the general anth. unless he plans to operate if something comes up. He did not do a patch or shunt the first time. I'm pretty sure this doesn't have anything to do with it, because they scheduled the CINE before they realized it, but I am allergic, very allergic to the iodine in the contrast. Any iodine, so I always have an EPI pen. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I chose a mild sedative so I could observe the procedure. Many of my friends chose the same and felt nothing. I had tremendous gas pain throughtout the procedure and nausea when I got home. Is there a reason for this?
Avatar f tn I am currently 36 week pregnant with my first child, I have also had heart surgery age 4.... Doctor has said that my heart is fine to have a normal birth and suggested General anaesthetic. Has anyone been through this? Will I end up having a emergency c-section? Should I take the general anaesthetic? I'm so worried :( but also wishing my baby girl was here.
5851092 tn?1404133464 My view is that the heart gets sensitised by something - stress, illness, though in my case they started after an operation so I suspect I was given too much general anaesthetic- and afterwards becomes easily irritated. So things that would not previously have bothered me, like a heavy meal, strong coffee, lying in certain positions, now trigger PVCs.
Avatar f tn I was admitted today as a day case for a hysteroscopy and biopsy under general anaesthetic. Woke up from the anaesthetic feeling a bit rough and with stomach cramps, but I felt relived to think it was over. Then got told they couldn't open my cervix and had to abandon trying for risk of perforating organs. So now I'm no further. Seeing gyn in 2 weeks to consider what to do next. Has anyone else had a failed hysteroscopy for this reason?
Avatar n tn how long does citalopram take to leave the body, i ve been off it for 10/11 days and have to do a pre employment drug screening .
Avatar f tn There could be a number of reasons your doctor has decided that general anaesthetic would not be in your best interest. Lumbar stenosis is a very good reason not to have GA. Not knowing your medical history and taking into consideration your age, I'm sure he will choose the safest method for you. If you want to know his reasoing behind his decision........ask him! It is your right to know the pros and cons of each method of sedation. I wish you the very best.
Avatar f tn On the other hand, the indications for this medicine are in a population with high anxiety, hypocondria, and axiety greater than the general population. I would susggest you ask the neurologist to refer you to a neuro-ophthalmologist for evaluation. With symptoms for 5 years it is not at all likely due to a threat to your life or vision.
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.
Avatar f tn s intermittent but sometimes I get waves of pins and needles that make me feel like i am about to go under a general anaesthetic and last night I got tingles in my tongue. Can anyone advice please?
Avatar f tn I was having very frequent pvcs at the time of my full hysterectomy, thousands a day. I was absolutely terrified at the thought of the general anaesthetic, to the point where they agreed to try a spinal block instead. That didn't work so I had the general anaesthetic. Much to my surprise, the anaesthesiologist told me that my pvcs stopped whilst I was under. I am sure you will be just fine. Pvcs are not harmful in a normal heart according to everything I have read.
Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn My 29 yr old super fit firefighter daughter went in for a simple operation in the UK to remove a cyst from her finger under general anaesthetic. When she woke they told her they had not done it as as soon as they put the anaesthetic in her heart stopped for 20 - 30 seconds until the CPR revived her. Tests revealed no abnormalities in her heart and blood tests were ok too.
Avatar n tn Because general anesthetics affect the central nervous system, patients may feel drowsy, weak, or tired for as long as a few days after having general anesthesia. Fuzzy thinking, blurred vision, and coordination problems are also possible. Most side effects usually disappear as the anesthetic wears off. A nurse or doctor should be notified if these or other side effects persist or cause problems. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The vitrectomy was a nightmare under local anaesthesia. Surgeon said there was a problem with the Macula and he would do a further op.... under a general anaesthetic. However since scan it by my eye 2 weeks post op there is apparently a “thinning” rather than a hole in the Macula. I’m worried about what this means.
Avatar f tn Hi - I am due to have a hysteroscopy, 360 degree curettage and polypectomy for one polyp found in my uterus. My ob-gyn suggested it could be possible to have done under local anaesthetic -(whilst taking 1000mg of paracetamol and 400mg ibruprofen just beforehand). My question is -will this still mean a very painful and uncomfortable procedure (30 minutes long)? My ob-gyn said I would have to be resilient to have just a local anaesthetics for this.
Avatar m tn Quite frankly, your general doc has no clue about any of this kind of thing -- this sounds like a pretty serious event beyond the education and experience of your general doc and general docs also are not well educated in medication. The fact a lot of people are on a lot of medications at once doesn't mean it's safe for a given person to do that. I'm hoping the doctors at the hospital were told she was on these meds.
