is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown.
My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?

Based on what I read about Cipro , it is strongly advised that you inform
your doctor about the rash that happened after you first dose of Cipro.
If Levofloxacin caused peripherial neuropathy will Cipro also if I take that as an alternate?
My doctor just put me on Cipro for a UTI. I am also on the pill (Ovcon 35). Can the Cipro cause the pill to be less effective?
Answer: When a woman is taking oral contraceptives and has to also take antibiotics (such as Cipro) that could decrease the effectiveness of the oral contraceptives, it is recommended that she use a back up method of contraception (i.e. a condom) during the entire time she is on the antibiotics and for 7 days after she stops taking the antibiotics.
Antibiotics wipe out bad and good bacteria, and cipro in particular seems to cause more problems after a course. It's wise to always follow up antibiotics with probiotics to reestablish some of the good bacteria for a happy, healthy balance!
Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.
Also, I am being treated with Cipro, which I just took a round of that for a UT about 2.5 months ago. Should I be repeating the same antibotic so soon, and will it be as effective if I do.
I took 1 dose of 500mg Cipro Friday night at 5:30p.m. Immediately felt flushed and red in the face.
I continue to have flare ups 3 days later. How long does this take to go away.

I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives.
From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
Yes Cipro can definately cause rythm issues. I cant remember where I read this but my doctor was going to give it to me until I showed him the info (that he did not have himself). So yes---In fact--since you brought it up--I have a new group called side effects of medications. Feel free to post your side effects there.
it never turned yellow, but the stains on my underwear looked a little yellow, though that oculd have been from urine. I was treated with Rocephrine and Cipro. By Saturday, the pain was gone, the discharge was significantly less and always clear, never white.
So now here I am on Sunday, 6 full days after the oral encounter and 3 full days into my treatment. I'm having intermittant burning on urination (2 out of 10, though I am a little dehydrated and it could just be concentrated urine.
I was given Cipro and it seems to be working. It seems like too much of a coincidence that I had sex and then got epidydimitis soon afterwards. I read somewhere that bacteria doesn't normally show up in urine when you have epidydimitis caused by an STD. My question is does this seem like it was an STD or just a coincidence?
Well, I am actually a senior in nursing school and the information I've come across (including the CDC) says that cipro is outdated. My gf is also from California, not Georgia, so she may have an antibiotic resistant strain. Its just so frustrating that the doctor is so deadset that there are no antibiotic resistant strains in Ga when there are, and I have explained to him that my gf is from CA where there are resistant strains.
4-5 leukocytes per field / 50 fields, however, a week later had a second urine anlysis and results came back all negative, but still have slight burning symptoms. The doctor has put me on CIPRO been on medication now for 6 days now 500mgx2 daily, my burning symptoms have slightly improved, but now that I noticed my urine today I am worried could it be discharge? STD.
4 weeks ago I began treatment for prostatitis. Dr gave me Cipro and Naproxen. Original symptoms of back pain, frequent urination, problems starting and stopping have went away. But I do continue to have a dull pain at the base of my right testicle that sometimes radiates to my right thigh. Also seem to get occassional tingling in my hands and feet? I have no nausea, no fever, no discharge. Could it be an STD?

Thanks for the additonal information. Cipro resistance is rare in heterosexuals in the western part of the country. If you had gonorrhea, I would expect your treatment to be effective.
I don't really think your doctor overreacted. It is universally recommended that all persons sexually exposed to gonorrhea or chlamydia be treated, without waiting for test results. You are correct in your assumption that the chance you were infected is low, because condoms are highly effective.

After decades of staying on the straight and narrow in a committed relationship, I scewed up and received protected oral sex from a csw. The condom seemed fine afterward--but I've been plaqued by guilt since.
In the past I've had non-std related irritation to my epididymus. It seems to happen every couple of years--just some discomfort, but no swelling or discharge, and it goes away in a while.
Had you been exercising at the gym non stop and got the muscle soreness when taking the cipro, then yes, I would have suspected that may have been a side effect from the cipro.
Whilst you are ill with an infection and on an antibiotic, you should not be doing strenuous exercises anyway. You should give your body time to heal and take things easy. Also by exercising you may have been further spreading the bacteria around your system.
After two days of treatment, I developed side effects to the Cipro (muscle and joint pain). I was taken off the Cipro and was put on Augmentin (twice a day) for 21 days, which I began taking today. My urologist advised me that if the Augmentin does not work, then there is not a whole lot he can do to improve my condition given that there are no other antibiotics that could be helpful. I just got a PSA done, and I am awaiting the results.
My right flank and abdomen was tender to touch and even walking made me nauseated; my stomach muscles and side felt weak and shaky.
