All relatively normal /negative,slightly elevated WBC . I have had ulcerative colitis for 25 years. I am 51 white male/non smoker ,have a beer or two most days .I saw an infectious disease specialist for last consults . I had a round of Cipro (2 per day/10 days) ,now the sun is killing me! I feel like a vampire ! I live in North Carolina/no travels outside of state .
I had a colonoscopy and the indicated I had diverticulosis one lower part of my large intestine..Then 6 mos. later I became nauseated.following diarrhea and vomiting.. Doctor put me on Cipro and Flagyl. The antibiotics cleaned my good bacteria also..I developed. C-diff 3 days later..I ended up in ER ..assumed I had ulcerative colitis..Staff at the hospital kept me so doped up on pain killers..I didn't know which end was up..
Had a protected encounter and shortly afterwards had flu like symptoms that lasted 3 days, was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, muscle and joint pain, hives, brain fog, weight loss. Doctors have run all kinds of tests and all is normal. Everything from my GP to my Rheumatologist. Ive even gone out and have run series of STD tests and all is negative. Only thing that helps me is Gabapentin for the pain. Keep in touch.
I basically eat healthy and rarely eat greasy food. However, my mom did have diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis for many years with medication. Due to this limited information, what do you think and what would you recommend?
I would NOT recommend you start smoking again as there are many other diseases and cancers caused by smoking. I also had ulcerative colitis, and I never smoked. You can read more about it in my blog.
The doctor here diagnosed me with Crohn’s/ Ulcerative Colitis and gave me prescriptions that relieved the diarrhea and in hours and are relatively inexpensive.
I want to make a comment about medicine in the US and our neighbors down South. I have CalPERS Blue Cross -- it is supposed to be one of the best in the nation and is “supposedly” international. 2 hospital visits in Brazil (my co-pay in the US $50 ea) my cost in Brazil =0.
I suffer from ulcerative colitis and now diagnosed with superficial bladder cancer (Ta, low grade). My bladder was perforated during tumor removal (TURBT) resulting in colitis flare up and bowels shutting down after exposure to leakage. Now offered biological therapy (BCG) treatment and worried that the expected stimulated immune response will trigger another colitis "attack".

I have been suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis (UC) over the last twenty years. I’m in control of it and lead almost a normal life. I’m currently on 3 grams of Rafassal (Mesalazine) and 200 mg of Imuran (Azathioprine).
My last colonoscopy revealed multiple areas suspicious of low grade dysplasia (LGD) in sigmoid colon and recotoanal junction. There is also doubt they might be high grade dysplasia (HGD).
My doctor advised that these LGDs be removed.
s no known cure for ulcerative colitis, but therapies are available that may dramatically reduce the signs and symptoms of ulcerative colitis and even bring about a long-term remission. Organizations such as the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America have chapters across the country to provide information and access to support groups. You can check with your doctor and join these groups. Regards.
So, ulcerative colitis can cause that. It's most likely pus if it is yellow. To me this sounds like complications of your IBS or ulcerative colitis. Have you started the medication yet? Is it helping?
Also, irritable bowel conditions like IBS, Crohn’s ulcerative colitis and celiac disease, which can cause similar symptoms can cause bleeding into the gut which is not visible to naked eye. So, an occult stool test should be done apart from stool routine and microscopic for ova and cysts of parasites.
If these tests are not conclusive, then you may need a colonoscopy to rule out a colon condition like colitis, ulcerative colitis etc.
I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.

Every morning around 6.30 am or so i have a contracting pain in my lower left ribs. It's very stabbing and also I have lower back pain.
2 1/2 weeks ago, i went to hostptial and had a flexible sigmoidoscopy, which was very painfull and embarrasing, and i am still waiting of the results, as the consultant took a whole load of biopsies. to this day i am still in pain with my stomach and suffering terrible diahrea, to a point when i have neva had so much diahrea in all me life, could this be IBS or the irratable bowel diseaese ???
Hi, my advice would be to go and have colonoscopy,it doesnt hurt it takes about half hr,my friends all had and it done all young ages my brother is 32 yrs old he had one thank god he went because thay found a polup and they removed it and went home and he was fine im going my self i just turned 40i want to call on friday to make the appointment.

I think I have ulcerative Colitis. My stomach usually hurts and I have to go the bathroom frequently throughout the day. A lot of times I suffer from fecal incontinence where i will go back to the bathroom like a half hour after I eat and I will wipe and there will be something on the toilet paper. I do not know what to do. Also, sometimes when i look at my stool there is like a red flake or something, can that be blood? Can blood show up in the form of a flake.
