Avatar n tn Prior the the potential exposure, I was prescribed a topical nail fungus medication (ClearNails Pro) that is fat soluble and claims to penetrate to the nail bed. This medication contains a drug called ciclopirox which was recently discovered to kill hiv infected cells in vitro. The percentage of ciclopirox is 6 percent. 1. Since my fungal medication is fat soluble and contains ciclopirox, will it enter the blood stream in enough concentration to affect the accuracy of an hiv antibody test?
Avatar n tn Most treatments are either systemic antifungal medications such as terbinafine and itraconazole, or topical such as nail paints containing ciclopirox or amorolfine. There is also evidence for combining systemic and topical treatments for effective results. A 2002 study compared the efficacy and safety of terbinafine in comparison with placebo, itraconazole and griseofulvin in treating fungal infections of the nails.

Avatar m tn The only thing I tried (out of desperation) which caused no reaction was a very diluted solution of baking soda in water, but it was not very friendly to my hair. After looking on the internet, and seeing that coco betaine is a common cause of dermatitis, and given that every shampoo I have tried has contained coco-betaine, am thinking that it is the most likely culprit.
Avatar f tn I have been noticing a black strip has been growing underneath my nail in my left hand thumb. I am a left handed person, and this very painful. At times there is slight swelling/inflammation too. This has been happening on a recurring basis. Is this a wart or a fungal infection? Please advise a solution.

Avatar f tn In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or black appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn my robust, 80lb. Belgian Shepherd mix split an outer nail on his back paw over a week ago. i did take him to vet who thought sedation and removal might be called for, but agreed to clip it back and monitor the sequelae, with my applying antibiotic ointment and possible e-collar. It no longer bleeds, it does not cause him to limp or seem to bother him much in movement.
328799 tn?1276565732 It's the nail polish. Any color can stain the nail but red or darker colors make it worse. Applying 1 or 2 clear base coats will help in the future with this like steph4302 said. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The vinegar will only work if you file down the nail bed, because the trick is you have to get under the surface of the thick nail bed. The fungus is gone and has never come back. I would recommend against taking the prescription because insurance companies think that this is a "cosmetic" issue and won't cover the prescription. Clearly it is something more, but this is the way insurance companies think, and they're the ones holding the purse strings.
Avatar n tn So I was told by my mother and another individual that I should leave it be and the nail will heal itself over time as it grows. but what will happen to the nail under the fresh grown? will my body eat it like a wood splinter? how will the hole close up? i did sanitize my foot in anti bacterial solution.. incase.

15740368 tn?1442665097 Hi ! I slammed my right thumb on the car door two weeks ago and I have a small fracture on the distal bone and subungual hematoma. I took meds for pain, inflammation and antibiotics, now I only take Vit D, Zinc and Calcium.I had bandage for one week, but now I have orthosis because my nail might fall off. I have dark blue-purple-black hematoma under and around the nail and it's really solid on touch. The nail started to change the color from dark blue to purple and it's still growing.
Avatar n tn It continued to hurt so this morning I took some action and got out my pointed nail file to see what was going on. What a surprise when I started to try to lift the edge of the toenail up and a bunch of yellowish puss came out... gross! My question is will this clear up on its own? I've managed to clear most of the puss out and I can see the edge of my nail clearly so I dont think its ingrown anymore (but I'm not sure). I was going to put neosporin on it and hope it clears up.

Avatar f tn and Ketoconazole), as well as an anti-fungal nail polish (Ciclopriox), and also a nail film (Umecta). My nails are still deteriorating (see pictures, taken today...5 months of this). I am fairly certain this began from a bag of pistachios which must have been coated with a dust containing the fungus. Is anyone else suffering this? Does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance for any help you can send!
738905 tn?1232414152 I started getting this problem on my toe back in spring, like around may. My left big toe started swelling and blood started coming up the sides of the nail. It's swollen now and it bleeds randomly. Everytime I hit my toe it throbs really bad but I can't feel my toe at all usually. Sometimes it itches. I'm getting really frustrated becuase i've put poroxide on it, i've used hydrocortisone and other creams. I don't wear dirty socks.

Avatar f tn in the past year ive gone from biting them when im nervous or bored to hacking at the nail and the skin around them with nail clippers and even scaples. whats wrong with me. i often cant stop until it hurts and there bleeding... what could this be caused by?
Avatar n tn The most common causes are bacterial or fungal infections which enters the skin around the nail that has been damaged by trauma, such as nail biting, finger sucking, dishwashing, or chemical irritants. The yellow-green color, indicates that a collection of pus has formed under the skin (called an abscess). If this is the case it may require an incision and drainage. Warm soaks in a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% liquid antibacterial soap 3-4 times daily for about 15 minutes.
Avatar m tn I am a 21 year old female with no prior skin ailments with the exception of some mild teenage acne. approximately one month ago i noticed the skin on my left index finger appreared very dry so i began treating it with cuticle oil and heavy moisturizures. After a week of no noticible improvement, a friend suggested the possibility of fungal nail infection, although my nail was clear and growing normally. I used Dr. G's Clear Nail Antimicrobial Solution as directed (7 days, twice daily).
