I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants.
However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide.
I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking.
Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?
Whatever problems you have now will still be there, regardless if you are smoking or quit.

As for the patch and taking an RX, I'm not sure what type of drug you are referring to. If it's an anxiety pill (wellbutrin, xanax, etc.) then that should be okay. If you are referring to Chantix, then no, you can't mix them.

I take 40mg prozac,300 wellbutrin xl,xanax and adderol and it never effected my nicotine intake. I find that smoking causes me to shake my leg alot which is really unattractive in my eyes because in a social setting i seem almost anxious when im not my nerves just feel shot. I have an electric cig i think im going to throw my cigs away and try to use the e cig when i have a craving. Any support,advice, or ideas would be greatlyappreciated.
Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute.
When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit?
I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
Prozac is an anti-depressent. If its not working there are other anti-depressents that could be added or it could be changed. Speak to your psychiatrist about that. As for Xanax its a short acting anti-anxiety med meant for occasional use. There are other anti-anxiety medications that being longer acting have far less of a potential for a person to build up a tolerance to such as Klonopin (which I've been on 10 years without a problem).
I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Wishing you the best.
i quit afew years ago, i quit oxycontin, xanax, weed, and cigs at the same time....it what the worst time of my life nothing compared to what im feeling now wich is why i know im gonna make it past these wd's...the cigs would have been nice to wait on for a month or so, but everything i smoked i got alot of anxiety bc i was quitted xanax also so i just didnt even want to feel that and quit as well...
you can wait a month so you can at least have something for now...
I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
I used Chantix for my quit but had no ill side effects. Hindsight, I probably wouldn't use it again because of all the negativity so what I would suggest is if you have already gone 2 days without a smoke, you might want to consider stopping the Chantix.
You are still going to have a physical withdrawal regardless of how long you use the pill though I don't know to what degree, all I can say is that I had a rough go of it.
I have been on Chantix . My breast are swollen and tender. Has anyone else had this side effect. Not from my periods - had a hysterectomy 15 years ago.
I, too, smoked for over 40 years. Between that and severe acid reflux, I had built up excess tissue on my vocal cords, to the point that I could hardly talk. I'd gotten to the point that it was so painful to even make sound that I tried not to talk as much as possible. I was sent to an ENT, who said he could remove that tissue (it wasn't cancer, but he was sure it would be soon), but he wouldn't touch me until I had quit smoking for 2 months.
I took chantix for 1 1/2 months and experienced a little gas but that was all. I quit taking chantix 3 days after my last cigarette and that was 9 months 1 week and 4 days ago.
I think I should consider myself one of the lucky ones as all I hear on this board is how bad chantix was for them! Outside of this board, I knew a dozen or so people who took it, and none of them had anything more serious then gas and bad dreams!

I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
We are not medical doctors so if you want to know about the side effects then you should call them (chantix) directly at 1-877-CHANTIX. Also, there is something that comes with the prescription that tells you about the risks. You had better read up on it.
Sorry to hear that you are having seizures. I took chantix with very little side effects.

I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.
It could be the Chantix or if you are female it could be menopause : )

My experience with Chantix was pretty good but I stopped taking Chantix after my third quit day. All total, a month and a half, and I didn't look back.
