Chantix not working

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix not working

chantix

Avatar f tn Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.
Avatar m tn m heading for a weak moment where I will light up. Could it be because I finished the Chantix therapy recently. Is this physical or psychological? This is bothering the heck out of me. I feel so much better since quitting. I DO NOT WANT TO SMOKE! but the demon is trying to wear me down. Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar f tn My mother, brother and daughter have thyroid issues. Hypothyroid for mother and daughter and hyper for brother. I have had my thyroid levels checked before( not the free 3 or 4) but the other values. They have always been in range but on the low end of normal. Therefore, my doctor does not want me to go on medication. In the last year, I have been gaining weight and feeling tired. I chalked it up to menopause. I stopped smoking after 35 years in October by taking Chantix.
1609058 tn?1298089127 I've had an awful experience that I must share and find out if anyone else has gone through it. I currently take Lexapro 10mg, a mild antidepressant, and it's wonderful for me. A little over a month ago, I requested a prescription for Chantix to quit smoking. Even though I'd heard lots of negative things about the side effects, I thought it was worth trying. After 4 weeks of taking it, I did notice that my mood was being affected, so I decided to stop taking it.
Avatar n tn I also used Chantix to quit and before I stopped the Chantix I would force myself to smoke before a meal, not after. Ditto on all the other triggers... I tried to trick my brain and I guess it worked : ) I haven't smoked for close to a year and a half after smoking for 38 years. Good luck to you and we are here if you need us.
Avatar f tn I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month. I did not see a dr and just thought it was a side effect of Chantix even though I quit taking it. Then about a month ago, my left hand, leg and tongue went numb. The numbness it my leg went away 2 days ago, but I also feel like I have a lump in my throat and occasional blurry vision in my left eye. This morning I woke up with pain in both hips. Does this sond like it might be MS?
444932 tn?1273980797 This post is so encouraging & I love how the end states the money saved, cigs not smoked & time of life that has been added due to you quitting. I'm on day 4 of starting Chantix & I was looking to see if itching is a side effect of taking chantix. It's not listed as a side effect but I found these comments on it. I know it's not withdrawal cuz I'm still smoking so it has to be the chantix.
Avatar f tn Yes Chantix can sometimes worsen symptoms of bipolar. I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.
444932 tn?1273980797 I too have migraines and have not had a problem until I started taking the Chantix to quit smoking. I am at the point that I will try other methods before I will continue to take the Chantix. Because I cannot function with my head pounding like this.
Avatar f tn Today I have 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. Woot whew! I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum….
Avatar m tn I would stop using the Chantix immediately. If you want to quit, you will continue not smoking. Chantix doesn't always agree with those using it and it sounds as if you are one of those. I quit with Chantix too, but I did not have any side effects. I do know, through commercials, that there is a class action suit or they are attempting to put one together so I'm sure there is good reason for it! Stop immediately and call your doctor or go into the emergency room of your hospital.
Avatar n tn I'm not too sure but I do know my friend killed himself because of that drug.
407029 tn?1253992623 Chantix is not hard on the liver. It is excreted through the kidneys. I took Chantix 2 months before I finished my first round of treatment. I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it.
Avatar m tn are just another 'monkey-on-your-back'; forget one and your subconscious screams for the cigarette. The hardest part of not smoking was that I had to give up Coffee, Tea and any type of Alcoholic beverages for about 18 months..(purchase caffeine tablets for that morning pickup and begin to drink water or other beverages). After that period, I could re-indulge with the aforementioned without subconsciously reaching for the cigarette...
Avatar f tn Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
1134609 tn?1269272200 The side effects mentally, emotionally and physically have been so bad that my Dr. advised talk half a dose or quit. Chantix had been working as far as my not having severe cravings to smoke, so I dosed down and also started a slow wean to avoid the horror of Chantix wihdrawal as well as the nicotine withdrawal. Chantix did nothing to relieve physical symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am not saying things like I will never smoke again I am just not smoking right now. So far this is working for me better than anything else ever has. I really hope it continues to. I decided to post today because saying all this to others helps me to remain accountable in a sense. What is really cool is getting out of the shower with freshly washed hair and being able to smell the fragrance of my shampoo for the rest of the day.
Avatar f tn While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
Avatar n tn He became very mean and I took him off. Shortly there after, even though I was told this was not a side effect of Chantix, reports started coming out about this very issue related to Chantix. My point is, who knows? I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not.
Avatar m tn I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix. and a month later and not taking it. i still have it. I also quit drinking with using Chantix. I wasn`t an alcoholic or anything , but the taste of alcohol still tastes like rubbing alcohol to me....
Avatar f tn Severe pain but short lived in addition to a dull ache that goes down into my neck. I am hoping it is a symtom of withdraw from nicotine and not the Chantix. Has anyone else had these type of headaches?
Avatar n tn I am also experiencing sore breasts while on Chantix. This is actually the 3rd time I have quit smoking with this drug. I did not experience this the last 2 times. I have now discontinued taking the medication after having quit smoking for 8 days. I know that the recommended dosing is for a whole month to three months. I have found that taking it until the general nicotine withdrawl symptoms have gone works for me.
