Common Questions and Answers about Chantix message board

chantix

Avatar f tn Your post is on the smoking addiction board and not the medical doctor board. We are somkers or ex-smokers here and are not qualified to answer you. I wish you luck and please let us know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I think I should consider myself one of the lucky ones as all I hear on this board is how bad chantix was for them! Outside of this board, I knew a dozen or so people who took it, and none of them had anything more serious then gas and bad dreams! I hope you start feeling better real soon and I hope that you have quit. Keep us posted!
Avatar n tn In addition to those, what I liked to do was to read the articles at whyquit.com and then I would come to this message board and complain or simply respond to someone elses query. By the time I finished, well the craving had passed : ) After smoking for 38 years, I find that it is learned behavior that makes us want to smoke so I think that it is important to work on that too.
Avatar f tn Hi to everyone, I've been reading this message board for months now, but unable to post because my Apple computer won't let me, don't understand why and we've tried everything.so i'm in my adult community's clubhouse using their pc. Let me first say you are an amazing, compassionate group of ladies and I'm glad to be able to read the information you post to help each other. I'm stage 3C, BRCA 2 positive, OVCA which has metastasized to the lymph nodes.
444932 tn?1273980797 I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?
444932 tn?1273980797 Sorry to hear that you had to quit the chantix. I guess I was one of the lucky ones! There are no quick fixes and even though chantix made it easier, there were still withdrawals and cravings. If you have had success using the patch then you really should try that again, read whyquit.com and post to the board when you are feeling vulnerable. Good luck!
Avatar m tn to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking. Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!! I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!! AND...I'm not smoking either!! Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!! Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?
Avatar f tn Appointment with sleep disorder pulmonologist yesterday. He asked me why I was there. I had a sleep study and the sleep tech said there was no reason I should stop breathing at all. Even with the terrible nights sleep in the lab I had 2 central apneas and 1 obstructive. I responded to his question with that. Then he wanted to "work backwards" and I had to go over the last 5 years of medical history that led me to a sleep study.
444932 tn?1273980797 I just started taking Chantix yesterday. I have heard lots of great things about this medication and how much it helps, but I've also heard lots of scary things - bad dreams, depression, suicidal/homicidal thoughts, hallucinations. Obviously, I chose to ignore all those things and take it anyway b/c I know me and I know that I need something pretty powerful to help me quit. I also quit taking pain pills four days ago.
540521 tn?1221699706 Congratulations on your decision to quit. You will find that everyone on this board has quit with different products and some even cold turkey. My choice was Chantix and though there is so much negative talk about it, it worked for me, and I am truly grateful! I smoked for 38 years and found that Chantix curbed my urges and eventually, I was able to stop completely. That was 8 1/2 months ago.
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
Avatar f tn m not quite sure what your friend and her husband used, but if it was chantix/champix, then the success rate is 44%. I used Chantix to quit and it really worked great. Saying that, there are so many people who have experienced side effects, some severe, so make sure you do your homework on it. Most people that you tell truly want to see you succeed. The one who told you would not be able to succeed is probably bringing her own experience into your conversation.
Avatar f tn Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
Avatar m tn m heading for a weak moment where I will light up. Could it be because I finished the Chantix therapy recently. Is this physical or psychological? This is bothering the heck out of me. I feel so much better since quitting. I DO NOT WANT TO SMOKE! but the demon is trying to wear me down. Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar f tn My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
334876 tn?1229979296 s time to quit being the Marlboro man and quit smoking, my doc finally gave me the rx for chantix so I guess this is day one and I should see how good it works in about 7 days as it tends to taper off the well to smoke Wish me luck Cowboy
596605 tn?1369946627 Hi I am on Chantix to quit smoking and quit a few days ago. I am very tired so tierd that I cant even turn on the TV.. Is this a normal side effect from going off nicotine? This is the third day that has been like this. I was a heavy smoker before at 1 1/2 packs a day for 30 plus years.
Avatar n tn I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Wishing you the best.
511488 tn?1214620496 I have been reading on here how many people are users and abusers of tramadol. I have a very important message for you that you may not be aware of. DO NOT take tramadol if you are already taking any anti-depressant called an SSRI (serum-serotonin re-uptake inhibitor). If you are unsure if your med is an SSRI, ask your pharmacist (many anti-depressants are). They is a contraindication with these two meds.
Avatar m tn I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
