Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of Campral® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar m tn Ok well it may be the Chantix... but I dont know... most symptoms I know of with Chantix are stomach related. Just in case I would try stopping... if you still get you know thats not it... However, i actually think you may have a sinus infection... Very common when you first quit. Usually appears as though you get a cold or something within the first 3 weeks... it's actually like all the crap is coming up from your system.

If all else fails then get one of those nicotene inhalers or if you have the funds available to you go see a hypnotist. P.S. my room mate quit taking Chantix and is still smoking.

Avatar f tn Hundreds of reports of suicides, psychotic reactions and other serious problems tied to the popular stop-smoking drug Chantix were left out of a crucial government safety review because Pfizer Inc., the drug’s manufacturer, submitted years of data through “improper channels.” Some 150 suicides — more than doubling those previously known — were among 589 delayed reports of severe issues turned up in a new analysis by the non-profit Institute for Safe Medication Practices.

Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn Good Job. I took Chantix too, for 1 month. Had a small heart attack in June, and had a stint put in. I didn't think I would need anything to stop smokiing, but my family seemed to think I would. The only side effect I had, still have, is lack of taste. My sense of taste is screwed up. Found out that 8% of the people who take Chantix will have this problem. I hope this clears up soon, it's ticking me off. Hope you don'tget this side effect. Good Luck.
286124 tn?1214938528 At the end of 12 weeks of CHANTIX, 44% were able to quit smoking. It also helped reduce the urge to smoke. CHANTIX has been proven to be more effective in helping smokers quit than Zyban®. The average person in these studies had been a smoker for more than 24 years. The trials involved a mix of men and women who smoked on average 10 or more cigarettes a day. I think its pretty much for smoking only but i guess ya never know.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar n tn 4 years ago, my heart went out of rhythm and I had a virtual blackout. At the same time, I also started having psychological symptoms, especially chronic derealization. I don't have anxiety or panic attacks, I feel like something toxic is effecting my mind, like the psychological side effects of Chantix or a similar drug but it won't ever wear off. Now of course at first, I had no idea about any of these terms I'm throwing out, but this is where I am 4 years later.
Avatar n tn Did you stop taking the Chantix? A common side effect of this is nausea and with some people it becomes quite a problem when taking it. If you haven't stopped it, as long as you are sick, stop taking it and see if it makes a difference. If you have stopped taking it then I would suggest you see your family physician. It could be galldbladder attacks you are having. When nausea is coupled with abdominal pain, it is nothing to mess around with.
Avatar f tn She felt that the nicotine withdrawls, combined with the side effects of the Chantix is what caused the severe anxiety.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
Avatar f tn -- I took my night time dose of Chantix and went out to a club with friends since it was my last day of smoking. I only had a couple of beers (not even enough to do anything), and all of a sudden my memory left me, I couldn't walk, got sick numerous times, I remember bits and pieces, don't remember getting sick everytime, don't remember going home, don't remember how I got into my house, don't remember going to bed, don't remember anything. I had to ask.
Avatar f tn While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
596605 tn?1369946627 Any better today? I've been thinking about you; read a few more posts on Chantix side effects, and if you still feel that deep fatigue, I would quit the Chantix immediately!...and most especially if you have any kind of emotional issues (I don't mean to assume) as Chantix can exacerbate them. There are many other quit aids to choose from if Chantix turns out to be not right for you.
Avatar n tn I am a respiratory therapist and have been watching the wonders of Chantix since it was developed. I have seen wonderful results in many patients. However, my husband could not take it. He became very mean and I took him off. Shortly there after, even though I was told this was not a side effect of Chantix, reports started coming out about this very issue related to Chantix. My point is, who knows? I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different.
Avatar f tn Today I have 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. Woot whew! I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum….
Avatar f tn Chantix can have a lot of side effects, including headaches. They may go away after some use of it for a while. And congratulations on quitting smoking, that is one of the hardest things to do in my oppinion. Chantix originally worked for me. Best of luck!
Avatar m tn ( Maybe you should send an e-mail to the makers of chantix and see if they can give you an estimate of how long your symptons should last.
Avatar n tn I must be so out of tune with my body and what is happening with it! So many people have identified side effects and seem to know when anything is amiss with their bodies, and I barely noticed anything...a little upset stomach and maybe a bad dream or two. Many have had various problems but I'm not sure if I have heard of your complaint before. Have you read up on their website? Try a google search of "Chantix and swollen breasts" and see what comes up.
