Chantix and nicotine patches

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and nicotine patches

chantix

Avatar f tn I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum…. Does anyone here have any good ideas for getting off the darn gum now?
1134609 tn?1269272200 I tried Chantix and had horrible nightmares and felt like I was crawling out of my skin during the day; terrible experience. I have recently quit smoking again (7 days now) with the help of the gum and was doing pretty well until last night and today. I feel agitated, depressed, exhausted but can't sleep and I don't want to be awake, anxiety (which always brings a little agoraphobia with it), weepy, rage, and just your basic rapid cycling fun.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Ok so no coke for 6 days, i know its only 6 days but for me thats a long time. Today is day 1 of quitting another nasty habit of mine.... smoking! I've been up since 7:30, its 3:30 now and I've had 3 cigs. I'm using nicotine patches and they seem to help. Anyone out there have any tips they can share with me to help make this a success.
Avatar m tn I have tried cold turkey, Patches, gums and Chantix, they all didnt work for me, the Chantix put me in hospital and the doctors told me to stay away from them.. So I tried E-cigs, and now have been smoke free for 6 weeks, I started at 24mg Nicotine for the first few days, then found it too high for me, then went down to 12mg for the rest of the 6 weeks, now am dropping down to 5mg. My ecig is the Joye Ego-T, which is larger than redbulls 510 in the above post.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.
385161 tn?1270081218 hi if you smoke when using the patch or other nicotine replacement aids, every time you light a ciggy when on these aids you get an overdose of nicotine, you get the nicotine from the ciggy and the nicotine from the replacement as the nicotine is the addictive part then a double dose is going to make it harder, to stop not easier, plus its even less healthy
Avatar f tn Last june i was hospitalized with pneumonia, being a smoker they put a patch on me, i am to understand that they are not for 24 hr use and should be moved from one place to another, when i was realeased i bought patches and had a very bad reaction my Dr.
19880027 tn?1485894768 I tried Chantix (probably not the correct spelling) and it made me crazy. I finally found that using the 21mg nicotine patches for the first seven days helped out tremendously. I actually went out and grabbed some of that shredded beef jerky in a can and used that throughout the day in my lip. The jerky-chew is awesome by the way but it has a lot of salt in it so it makes your gums pretty sore after a while. Week one was difficult but the patches really took the edge off.
380558 tn?1309042387 Hey guys.. Just wanted to post real quick before I have to get back to work.. It's now 2 weeks and 4 days off of the Tramadol.. seems longer.. LOL.. I feel FANTASTIC! Gosh, I slept 7 hours last night! (not including the 2 hour nap yesterday.. hehe) We'll see if my mind and body let me do that again TONIGHT! lol Now, the SMOKING thing! Oh boy.. I slipped up a few times.. this morning I woke up, craving a cigarette sooo bad..
Avatar m tn I smoked since I was 13 and quit when I was 34.I had tried stopping a few times before, and of course quit while pregnant.First off,you have to WANT to quit for YOU-not anyone else.I personally am a fan of Chantix. It's a pill from your doctor, taken for min. of 3 mos. (I did 5 to be on "safe side").It is specifically designed to block the nicotine receptors in your brain-the triggers that make you want to smoke.
Avatar f tn patches, gum, Chantix, hypnosis, etc. But the only thing that makes any difference is your attitude and unwavering commitment to quitting. The recent studies have shown that the most succesful quitters are those that quit cold turkey. Yes, cold turkey! Without all the expensive remedies. Bottom line is, as I said before, you can use any help you want, but without you decision to quit, none of them will work.
Avatar f tn Remember that even using patches and gum, you are still getting nicotine and if you are wanting to conveive, you might want to consider cold turkey. It takes 3 days for the nicotine to get out of the system and from that point it is will power all the way. Good luck...
Avatar f tn Your supposed to smoke for the first 2 weeks so your body builds up these receptor blockers and when the 2 weeks is up you quit all together. When I used chantix I quit after 2 weeks and didn't really have cravings, it was more them mental part that was a little harder. You can do it tho :) The cravings don't last that long, during the cravings find something to do to take your mind off the smoking. I did laundry, cleaned, ate lol and before you know it, its gone.
Avatar f tn While you are sparing your lungs the damage of smoking, you are putting your mouth, throat, esophegus and those things at risk. You need to get off all nicotine once and for all and unfortunately that will be just as hard as quitting smoking. But you got to do it!
Avatar f tn I started smoking at 12 and am now 30...I smoke more now then ever before, and I am starting to feel the effects....I tried patches, herbals and cold turkey.... The best thing I tried was Chantix...it's a prescription that you get from your doctor....It works by blocking nicotine from the nicotine receptors in the brain....you continue to smoke the first week while taking the medicine....
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar f tn patches, gum, Chantix, electronic cigs, hypnosis, etc. But the only thing that makes any difference is person's attitude and unwavering commitment to quitting. The recent studies have shown that the most successful quitters are those that quit cold turkey. Yes, cold turkey! Without all the expensive remedies. Bottom line is, as I said before, a person can use any help they want, but without their decision to quit, none of the tricks will work. You can do nothing to persuade your boyfriend.
Avatar f tn Smoking provides immediate relief and over the counter meds or diet/exercise changes do not seem to work. Does it just take many months for the Nicotine to leave the system and for gas symptoms to stop? Do I just need to stick it out longer?
Avatar n tn m doing just the gum because I have PTSD (so they say) and my doctor was concerned about flashbacks and other issues that arise from Chantix use. Hope this helps, and best of luck! Been smoking for 45 years, quit the 15th, and I'm doing well!
Avatar n tn Way to go! Congrats on your quit and good luck on your surgery!
Avatar f tn com) which is nicotine free and contains ingredients that relieves the irritability that is related to nicotine withdrawal and also alleviates the cravings for cigarettes. I have read the testimonials and it sounds like a good product. Does anyone have any comments on this product? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I still get the nicotine and the sensation of smoking but am slowly breaking the habit and lowering the amount of nicotine. I'm hoping that I will be smoke free in a couple of weeks! Best of luck!
