Celexa weight loss depression

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa weight loss depression

celexa

Avatar f tn I was on Celexa, for 3 months last year but it didn't do much for me, in fact it was like i wasn't on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment. My dad was on it for 10 years and said it was the best thing he had ever tried for depression.
Avatar n tn My biggest question is i have been on celexa for almost 2 and a half month, i dont feel any difference in my depression and anxiety, i have been diagnosed for bipolar disorder, and i get into severe anxiety or panic attacks.
Avatar n tn Other anti depressants such as Zoloft, Remeron and Paxil seem to be effective in elderly patients with depression. Remeron seems to be the most commonly used drug in elderly patients with depression and weight loss. I would recommend that she talk to her doctor about other available options. Sincerely HFHS-M.D.
Avatar n tn I have experianced some memory loss while being on celexa. But my biggest side affect is how sleepy it makes me. I feel tired almost all of the day. I decided to try and go off celexa on my own (I am on 20 mg.) but after about 4 days of being off Celexa, I started getting VERY dizzy, and had a constant disconnected feeling. I started taking my dose again, and those sypmtoms went away.
1082697 tn?1260068216 before i took zprexa, i was losing weight. i hope i can continue. i do not have a big appetite. so i do not think i will gain any weight. thanks again so much.
Avatar m tn So i guess the real question is are these drugs known to cause weight gain or weight loss? And if i where to come off everything will i return to my normal weight?
Avatar n tn You report that your wife had experienced hallucinations, weight loss, loss of motivation, diminished concentration, and social withdrawal. This sounds like major depression with psychotic features, a condition that is usually treated with a combination of antidepressants (such as Celexa) and antipsychotic medications (such as Risperdal). Antidepressants may take 6 to 8 weeks before achieving full effects.
Avatar f tn Guilty as charged but a good tool if a patient is truly their own best advocate. Unexplained Weight Loss/Appetite Loss/Depression are all symptoms of various cancers, thyroid issues. So...I'm scared and sad and a bit at a loss. The weight continues to drop (indicated more by clothes fit than scale) and it seems to my eyes to be more muscle than fat. I continue to have nearly no interest in food and at this point, 2 drs are going to blame a nearly 30 lb weight loss on anxiety. Again...
Avatar n tn I thought these 2 meds were known to be weight neutral or cause weight loss. My doctor knows my concern about the weight issue as this is something I have never fought to maintain while everything else in life seems to be a fight. If I stopped taking all meds, would I lose the weight and go back to my normal size. I do lack motivation that's for sure! I think or say I will start a program and don't.
Avatar m tn Additionally, I was put on Celexa for depression/anxiety by my GP during this whole ordeal. A common side effect of Celexa is weight gain...so I'm wondering if I'd be losing more weight (instead of holding) if I wasn't on it??? Probably a question for the Doctor... Thanks.
Avatar m tn Free T4 of 1.1 is normal, are sure they measured free T4? where did you got those values (4.5-11)? Ferritin is your iron storage, 13 is low for a man, but how is your Hb levels (hemoglobin), RBC count? If you have nodules, multiple nodules are better then having only one (one is always suspect), so you must talk to the ENDO (if they measure more then 1 cm). Most of your symptoms (not the weight) probably are related to anemia. You must explore that, why you have anemia?
Avatar f tn My physician responded to my request for help, and being discouraged about my lack of weight loss by trying to prescribe prozac for weight loss and of course depression. Since when does Prozac aide weight loss? I did not receive any response to what else could I do/try/ who to see etc. Or an answer as to what they syntroid was doing for me, since I was still not losing weight, but losing hair, and still had high triglycerides. Also no response to my ??
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what dosages they are on when the Topamax is sole for weight loss in conjunction with depression? (I also take Wellbutrin). Thankyou for any information you might give me.
Avatar f tn The most common side effects of sertraline are sleepiness, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, tremor, skin rash, upset stomach, loss of appetite, headache, diarrhea, dry mouth and weight loss. What you are experiencing right now may be caused by the side effect of this drug. If it persists, inform your doctor for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar n tn some real life, but tempoary, depression about the loss of what might have been, but can't be. Process it, don't panic, just feel and think and sort things out.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have trouble sleeping on Celexa? I was taking Zolft and gained a lot of weight. All of them seem to have side effects. You just have to find the right one for you. My biggest concern was the weight gain.
Avatar n tn I NEVER have had any problems but now I do..I love the way I feel on Celexa, Im losing weight (which is a plus)..I just don't like the sexual side...if this is a temporary side effect that would be wonderful!! If this isn't temporary I think I need to look into something else. Please help!!
Avatar n tn lorazapam, valium, chlorazepate, and ativan (another version of lorezepam) are all equally addictive, as they are all benzodiazepines, and they don't "impede" weight loss -- however, antidepressants, of which SSRIs are some (zoloft, prozac, luvox, celexa) can cause weight GAIN, so the zoloft/lorazapam may be a bad combo for you -- have you tried paxil?
997928 tn?1252447837 I was thinking that maybe I just need to take the Lamictal and not take the celexa since the lamictal is weight neutral.. Does anyone taking Lamictal think it will work for my mood swings?
Avatar n tn Hello. I started taking Celexa after trying other depression medication during the past three years. Most of the other medication (effexor, Prozac, Zoloft) produce side effects which I did not care for. My doctor and I finally gave Celexa a try. I was taking low dosages (10mg daily) of Celexa and I was doing fine. A few months back my doctor suggested I try Lexapro.
Avatar n tn I started taking Celexa (20mg) in October of 2000 for situational depression. I tried to stop taking it before but could not because of the withdrawal symptons. In December 2001 I started slowly going off of it. I am down to taking 10mg every 5 days. Once the 5th day comes I experience dizziness, I'm tired, vision is a little blurred and it feels wierd when I blink (like a head rush).
Avatar n tn I have been off of meds for 4 years and it has taken me TONZ of hard work to loose the 60 lbs paxil put on me, but I have started to gain it back (20 lbs) so far (I excersize with a trainer and eat 1200 cal a day and still am gaining) and my anxiety is back so I went to the doctor and told him I need help with my weight and anxiety/depression so he put me on EFFEXOR XR to loose weight. I was on it once before but I was pregnant so I don't know how the weight worked for me.
Avatar f tn Also, reports of experiences with meds are all over the place from person to person. Some report weight gain with one med, others report loss, others report no change. Same with any other side effects. That's why it's best to keep your info seeking to basic information. You can drive yourself crazy! See what your doctor recommends. He may have an idea non of us have thought of.
Avatar n tn I'm curious. I've seen alot of people using celexa complain of fatigue and weight gain which can be typical of some SSRIs. I've noticed that several people have had a drop in T4 while on celexa (TSH/T4 checked prior to initiating antidepressant therapy). Is there any literature out there on this? Can you offer some enlightenment? Thank you.
Avatar f tn There ARE ADs out there that will not cause weight gain..........some are even known to cause weight loss. If ANY part of your depression centered around your weight, your doctor should not have put you on one that is notorious for weight gain. I looked up the side effects for Celexa and found listed under GI: Anorexia and decreased appetite. But please understand that we all react differently to medications. I've known people to LOSE weight on Prozac...........
Avatar f tn Celexa (along with 2000 iu of Vitamin D and 1000 mg B-12) for anxiety/depression and vitamin deficencies and have been gaining weight despite good nutrition and exercise (yoga, cardio, weight bearing). I am 64 years old and am frustrated about the weight gain. I was told that Welbutrin works in reverse and increases your metabolism and you lose weight as one of it's side effects. Is there a adjustment curve to switching? Looking forward to your advise.
Avatar n tn If your depression is and always has been mild, then I think your odds are good that you could do a slow taper and maybe go with a natural product for depression. If your depression is moderate to severe then you could always switch Celexa for an SSRI such as Zoloft which people say has a lower occurance for weight gain. Lets also look at the fact that when you first started taking Celexa, you were much younger. With age come added weight and this could be the culpret rather than the drug.
Avatar n tn I am Bipolar and was interested in this medication because it can also help with weight loss. It sent me into a extremely manic state: to the point of more than a week of not sleeping:literally. When I stopped the medication I experienced mini strokes for days. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Avatar n tn Nothing more depressing than gaining weight, and you are trying to get away from depression and all the meds do is make you gain weight which causes more depression!
Avatar n tn For example, paxil tends to cause the most weight gain. Wellbutrin tends to cause the most weight loss. The ssri's like paxil, zoloft, celexa and lexapro tend to negatively affect libido and ability to perform sexually in males and females. Wellbutrin tends to be neutral in regards to sexual issues, and tends to improve sexual drive.
