cat allergies in children

Well, the advice was to get rid of the cat. However, there are other children involved in this situation. So we are asking if anyone has used any of the allergen neutralizers, tannic acid, special baths... that are available. We're looking to find a good product that will help but not eliminate the situation within our household. So, taking docs advice on getting rid of the cat is not going to happen. Looking for other alternatives. Got any?

My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

That said, Im going to monitor my cat at all times and not let her be in the nursery or room when baby is napping and so am I. My cat hasnt tried jumping in the crib so Im relieved about that too.

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. in july of 08 i woke up one morning, my right ear starting feeling as if it was tightening all of a sudden, then i started getting dizzy and feeling sick to my stomach, it was the starting of vertigo, which i had never had or heard of before...my husband took me immediately to the doctor, he checked me and said i am swollen in nose and glands, he gave me meclizine and told me to take it every 8 hours....that was all!..

I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??

When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

Recently, I noticed that my 10 month of cat has licked/chewed off fur in one particular spot. The spot doesn't seem to be bothering him much, he's just as playful and sweet as always.
