326352 tn?1310994295 Well, the advice was to get rid of the cat. However, there are other children involved in this situation. So we are asking if anyone has used any of the allergen neutralizers, tannic acid, special baths... that are available. We're looking to find a good product that will help but not eliminate the situation within our household. So, taking docs advice on getting rid of the cat is not going to happen. Looking for other alternatives. Got any?
Avatar f tn You also said your asthma flared up since you started taking your children to school on a daily basis. You also said you had a bad asthma flare up in October of last year. In the fall, I think ragweed can also be an issue. Interestingly enough, an allergy test I had in the past revealed that I am allergic to dust as well. My worst allergy trigger is actually the pollen in June grass. You say your doctor has you on Ventolin and Flovent inhalers. I am on 2 kinds of asthma medication.
Avatar f tn Is this all normal in a child with asthma? I have friends who have children with asthma and their xrays all generally look fine. Whereas ours do not. Can cuffing and atelectasis cause long term damage? How long does it take for this to clear up? What causes scar tissue? Is it normal to have pneumonia as frequently as he does?
Avatar n tn However, you can become allergic to them years after, I had my one cat for 10 years before any allergies and 15 years before I developed asthma. If you do get one, try to keep it out of your daughters room so she has a good 8 hours without breathing in tons of cat dander.
Avatar m tn When I am around common animals that have dander such as dogs, cats, bunnies or hamsters, I begin to develop a slight rash and my eyes swollen and I have an asthma attack. Well, I was around a cat the other day. I was holding it and petting it and stroking it. My left eye slightly swollen and my upper arm had 2 bumbs...I had no asthma. I am usually worse around dogs...but are my allergies starting to get better?
15695260 tn?1549593113 There are many causes of asthma in children, and allergens, genetics and the environment can cause asthma in children. Parents should identify the cause of their child's asthma in order to choose the most appropriate and effective treatment methord.

(or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn I had cat hair allergy and it is much reduced now
208686 tn?1293030503 There has been conflicting evidence on the link between asthma and C-sections but the researchers said the number of children involved in their study and a long monitoring period strengthened their results. The findings also underscore the potential risks of elective C-sections as more women in Western countries choose to avoid a natural birth, the researchers said in the medical journal, Thorax.
746512 tn?1388807580 Alright, need some input or personal experience. This is the three year in a row that my allergies/asthma (or non-asthma who knows) is getting worse from middle of november into december. This can't be due to the cats since I am down one cat now and I have NO ALLERGIES in the spring with increased shedding. It is worse when I go outside and if I'm in and out at work or if it's busy and the door is constantly opened and closed I also have worsening symptoms.
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar n tn Do you have a good mattress cover to prevent dust mites? I know my asthma is worse when my allergies are acting up. Do you have any food allergies? Have you considered allergy shots for pets, etc? Hopefully this helps. Good luck fellow asthma sufferer!
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
1116122 tn?1268496794 The day before every allergy shot, my cat gets a super-duper-cat-dander-shampoo-bath.
Avatar m tn Dear Sir, First of all, asthma is not an infection. It is a condition. As far as I know, just because a woman has asthma doesn't mean her child will necessarily have asthma. Asthma is caused by certain triggers that an asthmatic person encounters in their environment. These triggers may include cigarette smoke, cold air, dust, and a number of other things. If your partner has asthma, she should visit a doctor and an allergist to determine what allergies she may have.
Avatar m tn They looked at the vitamin D intake of 2,000 pregnant women in Scotland and the development of asthma in their children. Those in the highest group of vitamin D intake compared with the group with the lowest intake had a greater than 50 percent lowered risk of wheezing in their children at 5 years of age. those mothers with the lowest vitamin D intake in pregnancy were associated with a decreased response to asthma medication in their children. People are inappropriately afraid of the sun.
Avatar f tn It could be allergies acting up your asthma. You do need to tell someone so they can monitor it. There shouldn't be a reason why you need to go to the hospital unless you have a sever asthma attack.
Avatar n tn However, in reading the caution section it says not to take if taking medication for allergies, asthma or cough. She takes these types of medication regularly. Would this medication not be appropriate for her. What about all the side effects...lowered blood rate, difficulty breathing? She has difficulty breathing as it is. Please advise.
168348 tn?1379357075 We had a cat for 20 yrs and who died 2 yrs ago and my dd's asthma got better (hmmmmmm) .... stil there but doing really well except for illness. We were thinking of trying a hypoallergenic kitty but probably won't at this time. She tested many yrs ago very very slightly allergic via skin tests but reacts to other people's cats and needs Benadryl (itchy eyes, but no asthma) .... although living with our cat she never had that problem so we really just don't know.
Avatar n tn I have had a stress test, echocardiogram, PFT, Lung scan, CT, chest x-ray, endoscopy so far and everything normal except for reflux, ulcers in the esophagus and mild asthma. Do you think allergies could play a role? I am 29 with no history of asthma, and otherwise very healthy.
