Avatar f tn 45 to 65 percent of your daily cal. intake should be from carbohydrates. If following a 1,500-calorie diet then 675 to 975 of those calories should be from carbs 168 to 240 grams of carbohydrate. On a 2,000-calorie diet, it would be between 900 and 1,300 calories or 225 to 325 grams of carbohydrate. When choosing carbs, the focus should be on healthy carb. sources, like fruits and vegetables, along with healthier complex carbs like whole grains. Healthy carbs.

370181 tn?1595629445 But in spite of abounding advice to the contrary, it is not true all diabetes patients should completely eliminate carbohydrates from their diet. In fact, doctors recommend that carbs account for 40%-60% of your daily caloric intake, but not all carbs are the same. There are good carbs [complex] and there are bad carbs [simple]. The carbohydrates that we consume are generally one of of two types. The complex ones found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and starches. These are the good guys.

Avatar m tn Testing postprandial - 2 to 3 hrs after meal - provides an insight on how the foods you consumed affect your blood sugars. Your goal is to be at normal levels, 60/70 to 99 mg/dl. Type 2 diabetics on the other hand aim for <141 mg/dl, better yet <121 mg/dl. Testing earlier or later than the 2-3 hr window doesn't provide an accurate insight of your levels. If you can do this and also able test when you feel irregular it will provide us with better insight to help you further.

Despite this the symptoms will still continue on for many hours per episode. It is most intense at night.

Avatar m tn If I ate 500 calories over that amount, I would be eating almost 81% of maintenance, so I would be slightly over starvation level. However, my question had nothing to do with that; it has to do with what micronutrients I should and should not take more of.

1211508 tn?1343079605 Agreed, carbs can definitely increase sugar in the blood, which is why it's best to eat pasta and bread that are whole-grain, or quinoa, rather than wheat or white flour pasta. I also thought one glass of wine was healthy consumed one time a day, I guess this could be the difference between white or red, not sure about that. Having said this, I don't think you're reading is super abnormal, how old are you?

Avatar f tn The main point to remember here is that foods with high glycemic index values [simple carbs] should be avoided or taken in moderation while foods with low GI values [complex carbs] are considered a healthier option. Those foods that have high GI values tend to release large amounts of glucose in the blood stream more quickly as compared to those that have low GI values. As a result, the foods with high GI values cause your glucose to rise much faster than the foods low on the GI.
Avatar n tn "Should I be concerned about this?" Yes, very much. "My doctor discourages daily blood glucose testing.." Nuts and quacks have many disguises, some as doctors. Please go find another doctor and get a second opinion. To discourage glucose testing is unheard of. And then to make you feel guilty? Sad. I take that back, run away from this woman doctor as fast as you can. Find one that will listen to you and treat you properly for this one isn't.
