It is more important that your TC and LDL are low, which in your case, they are. I wouldn't worry a lot about it. I have the same problem, BTW. Some doctors are willing to prescribe metformin for prediabetes. You may want to ask about it. Avatar f tn While I agree that adequate amounts of fat are necessary for a healthy diet, I feel that they, like most other foods need to be eaten in moderation. Aiming for a low glycemic diet will probably serve you better... low glycemic foods are those that don't spike the blood sugar. Eating foods that spike the blood sugar causes insulin levels to spike, as well and if those foods aren't used quickly for energy, they will be stored as fat.
Avatar n tn Beacause of your blood sugar you may know best but I would say some low glycemic food that will stay in your system longer. Fruit is maybe not enough energy unless you conbine it with something else as well as it digests fairly quickly. Also, start out slow and work your way up. Be gentle on yourself and understand this will take a little while to get back into it. Just improve very very gradually. It will take anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 weeks to notice drastic improvements.

Every single food you eat is converted to glucose, the trick is eating those that don't spike your system. Proteins, good fats and the right fruits and veggies. (not unlike southbeach) For instance, WaveRider mentioned fruits. Different fruits have different glycemic loads. For instance, apples have glycemic index of ~35-40, which is low.

Safe weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week, so in order to lose 1 lb/week, you'd have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). OR you can drop 250 calories from your diet and increase exercise to use an additional 250 calories. Changing up calorie counts and exercises will help prevent plateau.

With that in mind, I am having some trouble making decisions pertaining to the all-important Rice, Potato, and Bread categories. My doc says stay away from white, and that brown is much better, i.e. whole grain bread is preferable to white bread, and brown rice is preferable to white rice.

Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas. Simple carbohydrates are what you should avoid and those are desserts and candies.
