20620809 tn?1504362969 Here's a list of low glycemic foods... https://universityhealthnews.com/daily/nutrition/glycemic-index-chart/ The food is listed, along with the serving size in parenthesis, then the glycemic value. The lower the glycemic value, the better. There are a lot of other lists available on the internet - just do a search for "low glycemic foods". Most vegetables "qualify" as low glycemic, except things like white potatoes, etc.
Avatar n tn Possible diet modifications include replacing simple carbohydrates (eg, soda, candy, white bread, white rice) with foods having a lower glycemic index, and limiting consumption of carbohydrates overall. The glycemic index is a measure of how much a food affects blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes generally results from insulin resistance (may be genetically and environmentally influenced) and the inability of the body to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar.
20931051 tn?1694244079 Low Glycemic Index: Kiwi has a low glycemic index (GI), which means it has a relatively mild impact on blood sugar levels when compared to high-GI foods like white bread or sugary snacks. Fiber Content: Kiwi is rich in dietary fiber, which can help regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates. Fiber also promotes a feeling of fullness, potentially reducing overeating.
Avatar m tn (not unlike southbeach) For instance, WaveRider mentioned fruits. Different fruits have different glycemic loads. For instance, apples have glycemic index of ~35-40, which is low. This is because they also have fiber, which slows absorption. Foods below 55 on the index are considered to have a low index and won't spike your sugar levels as much as higher indexed foods. Shy away from starchy veggies like potatoes and peas. Eat stuff like broccoli instead. Give yourself variety too.
5747555 tn?1408727657 Hi there, Few fruits like grapes, mango, bananas and pineapple, have a high glycemic index and high sugar content. This means high carbohydrates. For fruits you should eat fruits low in sugar such as cranberries, lime and blackberries. Bread, cake, pastries, pasta and foods with breadcrumb or battered coating should be avoided. For more details and queries it is suggested to consult a nutritionist. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn I do not understand the exact relation between the amount of carbohydrates taken and the glicemic index. Could I eat food of low glicemic index, and still obtain the amount of carbohydrates required daily???? Does high glicemic index means more carbohydrates??? or there is no direct relationship between both???
Avatar n tn I was wondering how you managed your diabetes and how strict you are with your diet, like do you only eat set meals throughout the day and stay away from foods with a high glycemic index? If you do eat foods with a high GI, like a banana, do you wait a while after taking your insulin to give it a headstart?
Avatar m tn Something that amazed me was seeing a glycemic index, and the food at the top was -- get this -- a bagel, above even sucrose! Of course, it was a white four bagel, not one made of whole grain.
Avatar m tn It is a measure of how fast the impact is from carbohydrates. There are on line lists of foods with their glycemic index. There is only so much you can do with diet however. Some doctors are willing to prescribe metformin for prediabetes. You may want to ask about it. It is a safe and very inexpensive drug that has been used for the initial treatment of diabetes for decades.
Avatar m tn From what I have read, it appears that when deciding which foods are best to eat, Glycemic Load is even more important that Glycemic Index. With that in mind, I am having some trouble making decisions pertaining to the all-important Rice, Potato, and Bread categories. My doc says stay away from white, and that brown is much better, i.e. whole grain bread is preferable to white bread, and brown rice is preferable to white rice.
176741 tn?1295233989 My favorite commercial foods for dogs are the ones that contain no grains, low glycemic index carbohydrates approximately 25-28% protein and less than 11% fat (even less if your dog has a lot of weight to lose). The fatter the dog the more Atkin's diet-like the diet should be. There are a lot of brands out there and more formula's are literally being added daily. Inova/Evo, Wellness grain-free, and Orijin are good brands, but may be hard to find locally, but are available online.
256553 tn?1258883918 Instead of cutting out carbohydrates, eat high fibre foods as well as low glycemic index foods as they slow the digestion of the body's carbohydrates. Also, eat carbohydrates with fats and proteins as that will also slow the absorption of your food.
645800 tn?1466860955 White potatoes are one of the worst things you can eat. They are one of the highest things on the glycemic index. I was shocked to find that out.
8369322 tn?1397826669 Rather than sticking to an internet diet, or calculating glycemic index of a potential food, I just chose to avoid anything with a high carbohydrate weight per serving. That stuff was my personal kryptonite and I just steered clear of it. Last year I added strawberries and blueberries to my lunch. I eat them in season just as ancient gatherers would have done. Carbohydrates were seasonal treats; honey, berries, and other fruits were consumed on a seasonal basis.
1645208 tn?1301072177 But instead of jumping into a low carb, no sugar diet, I suggest you do some homework first and research foods that have a low glycemic index. These are the foods you want to eat. (This diet works for anybody, really, but it may be especially effective for you.) You can find this information free by Googling "Low glycemic index foods." Second, start counting calories. This is NOT fun. But it's free and effective. It just takes time.

Avatar f tn If you must add sweetener to your food, try one with a low glycemic index like agave nectar or raw honey. Other sweeteners that contain essential nutrients and have a lower glycemic index than white sugar are molasses, barley malt and sucanat, available in health food stores. Drink plenty of water. 64 ounces per day. Sometimes cravings are a result of thirst. Have a glass of water when you crave sugar, and wait a few minutes to see if the craving goes away.
3060903 tn?1398565123 complex carbs + glycemic index and load....... this is going to help a great deal in my bid to control my Diabetes II with food choices. It's exciting stuff. I'll give the best answer to Diabetes86 to help rack up some well deserved points, but really, thank you all so much!!! At first glance, you might want to pass up beets based on their GI alone, despite the fact that they are an excellent source of folate and potassium.
3224201 tn?1380377795 t see protein, fat, or very low carbohydrate foods on the list of foods for glycemic index or glycemic load.  Only carbohydrate foods have a glycemic index and therefore glycemic load , so the other foods you can automatically eat without worrying about them raising your blood sugars. You don't have to cut calories with this type of a lifestyle change, but should eat the number of calories for your ideal weight.
1756367 tn?1400884364 g.. complex/simple sugar, high/low glycemic index). Any resources that you would recommend to look up these more complicated nutritional information (glycemic index)? thank you!
Avatar m tn Please include a search on the Glycemic Index reference food groups. Educate yourself about the foods available to you, what you put into your body and how these foods will affect your life. All carbohydrates are broken down to glucose to produce the energy. But there are two forms of carbohydrates that diabetics need to understand. The good is complex carbs, what you should eat.
Avatar n tn The candida diet is basically eating meats and vegetables that are low in carbohydrates or have a low glycemic index. You'll never go hungry, but the first week is definitely the hardest with cravings (for me, anyway). There are a number of variations, but that is the basic foundation. After you get past the first week, you can slowly add carbohydrates back into your diet. I always lose weight when I follow this diet too which is nice.
Monster re have trouble keeping your levels steady, you should be very careful to keep your diet as low on the glycemic index as you can.
Avatar n tn a low carb high fat diet seemed to work great for me sense fat has no glycemic index and is also a great appetite suppressant it also helped with weight lose , off course you should go for the good natural fats like olive oil , coconut oil, avocado and things like that. Cutting out the carbs from the diet worked wonders, I hope this helps. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Oatmeal and fruit are high in the glycemic index
