Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.
7894272 tn?1395206727 Although carbs have a high calorie content , when these are cut out it there for results in a larger proportion of your energy being derived from fats which in the long term could have implications to health and increase levels of LDL cholesterol. I personally would advise to just be more selective with carbohydrates choosing those that are complex and slower to digest. This will result in a more sustained level of energy and prolong satiety .
Avatar m tn now, for the last two weeks, only insomnia (3-6 hours of disrupted and bad quality sleep), heart palpitations and muscle spasms are still present...also it is important to note that some days i wake up with one leg or/and one arm completely numb and on one of these days i also experienced auditory hallucinations 5-10 minutes after waking up....here is the label of the protein powder i took...I think that the MSG(referred to as hydrolysed whey protein isolate on the label) is the culprit...
Avatar n tn Some months ago, I started a specialized diet; it contains relatively few carbohydrates, and my persistent heartburn went away. I didn't think much of it until I discovered the writings of Dr.
Tbd This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates. The goal for a type 2 diabetic is to maintain their blood glucose within a safe range. Complex carbohydrates are broken down at a slower rate than simple carbohydrates meaning that the glucose is released into the bloodstream at a slower rate allowing more time for the uptake of glucose.

Avatar m tn many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks. As for where calories come from... You can find products that have zero carbohydrates, but are still pretty high in calories. A calorie is actually a measure of energy.
Avatar f tn I read that carbohydrates are the main source of energy, so it is important to eat some amount of carbohydrates daily so the body is able to function. There are different types of carbohydrates. For example breads, pasta, potatoes and rice and then there are vegetables and fruits. Can I obtain my carbohydrate intake just by eating (vegetables and fruits), or is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?.
Avatar m tn Treatment involoves elimination of all dairy products from the diet. Milk from other mammals (such as goats and sheep), and hydrolysed milk and soya formulas, are sometimes used as a substitute for babies who are at risk of developing cows’ milk allergy. However, the allergens in milk from goats and sheep are very similar to those in cows’ milk. This means that someone with a cows’ milk allergy might react to these other types of milk as well.

1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.
Avatar f tn I suggest sticking to a high protein diet and limiting the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are all digested in a particular order and knowing this order is the key to any weight loss. If you eat a meal of steak, gravy and chips (not the best choice) the carbohydrates from the meal will be digested first and used for energy, the rest will be stored. The human body only uses what it needs at one time, and stores the rest.
Avatar n tn Hi. I was wondering if there's is some free app for carbohydrates counting? I was never good at that. Thank you.
Avatar n tn You can find many books online or at the library or book store that name many foods and how many grams of carbohydrates are in those foods. There are other factors involved too--how much fat that is in a food can make a difference too. French fries are digested differently than say a baked potato. Now, that may sound scary, but it doesn't have to be difficult. Try to make sure you are balancing carbohydrates and proteins with every meal.
Avatar f tn In addition to providing calories, carbohydrates provide your body with energy. Not all carbohydrates are beneficial, and you should limit your sugar intake. Limit added sugars to between 6 and 10 percent of your total calorie intake. All this being said try the following if your doctor says it's OK! Protein bars are also a good choice for a general weight gain snack. look for one that has at least 3 grams of fiber and less than 12 grams of sugar.
Avatar f tn All foods may be eaten in moderation if you have diabetes, but too many carbohydrates may increase your blood glucose levels. Carbohydrates break down into sugars easily, so healthy carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes such as beans and peas and low-fat dairy products should constitute the majority of this food group.
Avatar n tn Remember balancing the carbohydrates and protein is the key and you would required carbohydrates for continuous energy and also for instant day to day work so decrease taking simple carbohydrates as in sugars and try to consume them in fruits and complex fiber rich carbohydrates. Proteins you can increase a little by taking a glass of toned milk with your regular protein diet. With more of intense muscle building you need to take supplements as advised by your trainer.

Avatar f tn The food makes it way to the small intestines where fats, and protein break down are completed, and all, including carbohydrates, are absorbed into our bodies. Whatever is not broken down, passes into the large intestine and excreted.
Avatar m tn Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas. Simple carbohydrates are what you should avoid and those are desserts and candies.
Avatar n tn Sugars listed next to carbohydrates are in grams. Every 7 grams listed equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar. Sports drinks can contain upwards of 7 Tablespoons of sugar, or more, per 12oz. Deadly. Exercise 30 minutes daily and maintain proper body weight are just as important as proper nutrition. Good luck.
Avatar n tn s pancreas does not make enough insulin to covert carbohydrates that are eaten into energy. Without insulin, these sugars build up in the bloodstream and the person becomes ill. In Hypoglycemia, the pancreas makes too MUCH insulin at times, and this overdose of insulin, if you will, causes the symptoms you describe. You will find that eating something that has some carbohydrates in it will make you feel better quicker than something that is low in carbohydrates when you feel this way.
