Avatar n tn First, you must realize that there is a huge difference in the treatment of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.

During pregancy, i was detected to be diabetic (type 2). then after i.e. since 2004, i am taking medicines prescribed by my doctor, i am taking a pill of metformin(SR) 500mg after lunch and glimipride 2 mg 30 mins before dinner. my FBG is always more than 225 and my PPBG is always more than 300. pl suggest me some better remedy to bring my sugar level in control. i have full diat controll and taking milk with sugar free pills. i am not taking sweets at all since last 5-6 yrs.

It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. I am still trying to get a handle on my diabetes. I am using FlexPen and take 2 shots of 24 units a day. Avatar f tn Carbohydrate restriction will only go so far. If you are in your 40's, 50's, or 60's, you can't go on living on low carb food if you are really active. I can't. There is a reasonable alternative to the American diabetes diet. It's the diet and lifestyle. This is a "wholistic" approach to stemming the cause of type 2 diabetes. Avatar n tn I'm another volunteer here and I agree with what BL has said about many doctors seeming to be rather complacent about Type 2 goals. Sometimes the docs themselves are burnt out trying to convince folks to take this seriously and they assume that all newly diagnosed Type 2s simply will not do so. I've heard from so many Type 2 -- who report rather high numbers -- that their docs don't say much.
Avatar f tn It doesn't really matter what you call it. Once your body starts being unable to effectivelly lower the blood glucose by itself, there's no going back. You can, however, delay the full-blown Type 2 by considerably reducing the amount af carbohydrate intake, and by immediatelly burning the ones that you do eat with excercise or heavy work.
Business man2 Let us not forget Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lack of daily 30-60 exercise, and above all poor food choices. In its early stage it is possible to reverse diabetes.
