Common Questions and Answers about Carb meter

carb

Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.
Avatar n tn I am newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I used an old meter from Precision Neo and my numbers were around 130 no higher than 158. My endocrinologist gave me a One Touch and my numbers are at 174 all week. Mornings are 130 or 113. Either my new meter is more sensitive, or I'm struggling..I'm very thirsty and my fingers are numb. I've walked and I eat a good diet. I meet a nutritionist on Tuesday. I stick to a low carb and high protein diet. I do enjoy fresh fruit.
Tbd Hi, a1c of 6.3 means an average blood sugar of around 140. This is too high. Ideally hab1c should be < 5.0. What to do: 1. Low carb diet (if your body can't handle carbs, then you need to reduce them sticking to mainly non-starchy veges as carb source. Lots of good online info for dietary management - ketogenic / low carb/ modified atkins etc). 2. Daily exercise (including aerobic / weights) 3. Lose weight if overweight.
Avatar f tn I read that suddenly coming off very low carb can cause temporary insulin resistance. Could this cause my spike? And should I be worried that it's not coming down so far? I'm a little worried right now. 194 can't be good...
Avatar n tn Recently diagnosed pre diabetic. Fasting has been 92-111. Last 2 weeks. This orange "meter" in this app seems to say that's in range, but afraid it's too high. I am doing all I can to lower, have been very educated, thank God. Wondering how it can take for lifestyle changes to get it down. At what point is medication needed?
Avatar m tn The BG meter has an error of 20% so the meter reading of 147 - (147*0.2) =117.6 Could be ACTUALLY 117.
Tbd I do know that carbohydrates raise BG... ALL carbohydrates will raise your BG. brown rice is a carb and will raise BG, so is wheat, potato, sugar and most fruits.

Avatar n tn Honey is a carbohydrate (carb) and like all carbs it will raise your BG. How much depends on you and how much honey you eat.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
793305 tn?1493925518 I need help. I am having issues with my blood sugar being high, but I have been having difficulty believing that it is as high as my tester is stating. I am eating a lot of salads. Dropped out almost all sugar and it is showing anywhere from 230 to 280 on the One Touch Mini that I have been using. So tonight after feeling like I have been starving most of the day, LOL...I tested at 280 again...it's like my meter is stuck there.
Avatar f tn A carb is a carb is a carb. The difference is what is in with the carbs, complex carbs have more stuff (fiber mostly) . I do know 20 grams of "white" carbs will raise MY BG from 110 to 160. 20 gr of whole wheat will raise my BG a little less from 110 to 155 but MY BG will stay high longer. try this. when you have stable BG . test your BG eat 2 slices of white bread. measure your BG after 30 minutes and 1 hour. see how much your BG changed.
Avatar m tn See Dr as soon as possible for bloodwork. Also you can purchase a glucose meter at any pharmacy to check before then. But you will need a Dr to tell you if it is def diabetes or not.
Avatar f tn Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio. count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.

Avatar f tn I take meds for hypertension and cholesterol and I also take synthroid. About 6 months ago I started a low carb diet for my overall health because heart disease is in my family. I cut out processed foods, bread, white potatoes, pasta, crackers, candy, cereal, desserts. My diet consists of salads with reduced fat dressings, salmon, chicken, tuna, occasional steak, green vegetables, occasional sweet potato, nuts, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and Atkins bars.
Avatar m tn Many products hide sugar under carbohydrates and/or with sugar derivatives. Carb sugars are listed as grams. Every 7 grams equals one heaping tablespoon of refined sugar. For example, two scoops of EAS protein powder has 2 grams of carb sugar. This equals to .32 tablespoons [approx 1/3] of sugar. In my previous post I touched on foods to avoid.
Avatar f tn Thank you. I have started to exercise & lower carb intake.. I don't want diabetes. Will get glucose meter. To start checking..
