1568296 tn?1295471273 I have just noticed in reviewing my food trackers that the addition isn't correct for the total per meal. This is for fat, carb, protein and calories. If I made only one entry, a snack of an apple for example, then the total is correct. However when there is a list of items the total for the meal is not accurate and in some cases very far off. Therefore my tracker is not correct either. Is this possibly a bug?
Avatar f tn t know a slice of bread will spike you blood sugar more than the same amount of calories in pure sugar! This is because wheat has and carb called amylopectin type A which is only found in wheat. This is a super carb. Most foods have type b and c.
17593698 tn?1458185817 t spike your blood sugar. The best advice I can give is to start thinking in terms of Carb units (15 grams of carb = 1 carb unit) and try to balance your carb intake with fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow digestion and as a result minimizes spikes in blood sugar. Also meet with a diabetes educator and nutritionalist they are a great resource and can get you started on the right path. Good luck with the new adjustments, and now that you have millions of friends to lean on for support.
Tbd Avoid all sweet fruits and all starchy vegetables. Even a medium sized apple has about 20g of carbs. Small amounts of berries are often considered to be low carb. Green leafy vegetables and low carb vegetables are fine. This will include lettuce, cabbage, spinach, asian and western greens, celery, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, green beans, okra, egg plant, and others. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). Avatar f tn They just suggested it because your more glucose sensitive in the morning, so they suggest not doing fruit at breakfast. And there is a carb count you should be following for meal and snack times. I got all my information from a registered dietician; I also have my bachelor's in nutrition. I Knew before hand that there was a carb count just couldn't remember the numbers. The suggest for breakfast and snack time to stay between 15 and 30 grams of carbs.

Very easy to make - get a bag of shredded parmesan from the supermarket - it looks like shredded mozarella - Target have them - put in a bowl and add (preferably fresh) some chopped up rosemary. Put on a lightly oiled baking sheet in small piles (about 2" in diameter), not touching, and cook in oven at 400 degrees for about 8-10 mins. Remove as soon as they start turning dark brown at the edges.

Avatar m tn Hi, with regards to eating fruit, I would say that it depends on your blood sugar response. If your blood sugar stays in target range when you eat an apple, or a portion of an apple, then you are fine. If i makes you go high, then best to avoid fruits. Alternative fruits such as berries and kiwi fruit tend to have less blood glucose impact compared to other sweet fruits. Size of serving also makes a difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn 15 grams of carbohydrates is equal to 1 carb count. Try to limit your carbs to 4 carbs or 60 grams per meal. And 2 carbs per snack. There are very good charts available online to help you guage the carbohydrates in fresh foods as well. Also try to eat at the same times daily. This will help keep your sugar levels stable and keep from putting a demand on your pancreas from binging because you skip meals or go long periods between eating.
8180827 tn?1396894232 Add a serving of brown rice and more veggies to your chicken and cucumbers for lunch. Snack on an apple with some peanut butter in the afternoon, instead of the Starbucks coffee. A Taco Bell taco won't break the calorie budget, if you stop at one. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day.
1401296 tn?1280799533 Low carb does not have to mean no carb. You end up just eating the good carbs and in smaller amounts than most people. You don't have to eat bacon and pork rinds and it doesn't have to be unhealthy if you do it right. Most people don't do it right. They don't eat any carbs and then pig out on high fat protein. You can't go on and off as you please. Your body works differently on it and has a hard time switching back and forth.
10570408 tn?1412078257 Try leaving out the sugar, junk food, and grains, but add back in two or three servings a day of healthy but carb-y vegetables, and see what happens.
Avatar n tn Now sugar alcohols (mannitol, sorbitol, anything-itol) --typically used as sweeteners in alleged low-carb or sugar free foods -- are a bit less straightforward and are the source of much confusion. Even for Atkins dieters, and even tho' the food labelling will subtract out all the gms of "itols" to come up with their net carb numbers, for diabetics taking insulin those sugar alcohols can't really be ignored.
962905 tn?1247147215 The healthiest options will be the lower calorie, low carb fruits, although even higher calorie fruits such as the banana are a far better alternative than most snacks found in a vending machine. One of the best fruit choices is the apple. Apples are not only low in calories and relatively low in carbs, they're also high in pectin, a natural ingredient similar to fiber, which helps to promote satiety.
Avatar n tn From what I have read, the low carb diet is ideal for people like you, although if hypoglycemia persists, you may find that you need to increase the carb count in whichever meal precedes the usual glucose drop by a small amount until the drop ceases to happen. I encourage you to do some reading on how low carb diets work.
