Avatar f tn I also have NLD on both legs, and I am afraid I am going to die trying to survive. At my last appt, he was upset at all my high numbers, and said that I was a non-compliant patient and told me to go somewhere else. I tried to explain that I am doing the best I can, and I'm scared. I am at my end on what to do...I'm afraid I'm going to die before I hit 35. Is pancreas transplant a good thing? I need advice and help.. Thank you.
5536886 tn?1455827346 You have a serious condition that requires you to monitor everything you eat, inject insulin, and monitor blood sugar frequently. Further, if you follow the traditional approach for diabetes management, which is high carb and low fat, your blood sugar will be swinging high and low every day, even with your best efforts. If you are unlucky you will then develop complications from the high and swinging blood sugars, and the problems go on.
Avatar f tn Why do I have suck wacky responses? I am compliant with guidelines, medicine and protocols. My AIC is 8.9 and a 12hr fast gives me a 17.6 lab reading. If I fast longer my sugar goes higher. A 8 hr morning fast gives a 14 to 16 reading and goes up from there. My reading also goes up after exercising. This morning I was at 16.3 after a 8 hour fast so just to see what would happen I added a 5g teaspoon of sugar to my decaf with breakfast and then went to the Y to exercise for 1 hr. .
Avatar f tn It would depend on what is happening. A person can only be required to continue treatment if they are dangerous to themselves or others or (in some states) have become that way repeatedly when they discontinued treatment before.
Avatar f tn His A1c has steadily been climbing. Since he eats cafeteria food, his ability to correctly guess the carb. count has been challenging. How can we be encouraging and supportive while we are very frustrated and angry at his seeming lack of interest in maintaining good health! We just want to nag and scream at him which we know will not work at all. He also suffers from depression and social anxiety for which he receives on-going treatment through counseling and medication.
Avatar n tn When her blood sugar is over 225 we have her check for ketone thru her urine. If she has ketones we give her extra no carb fluids and contact per endocrinologist on how to adjust her insulin dosage. We do this because sometimes she has ketones due to being ill other times it is a missed bolus from the pump or not enough insulin. I would suggest you talk to your Childs endocrinologist or CDE on better ways for you as a team to get this situation under control.
Avatar f tn I was eating too much refined sugar (a naughty carb lol) in my low calorie diet. And when you are insulin resistant/diabetic you are losing excess magnesium through the urine. Magnesium deficiency causes muscle cramps. I reversed my severe insulin resistance by avoiding added sugar (I'm not a big carb eater otherwise) and I'm no longer losing excess magnesium either. From Diabetes UK - Low Carb High Fat Diet... "What is the low carb, high fat diet?
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
572651 tn?1530999357 Okay, Lulu, as promised here I am to explain myself and if I am compliant with my "therapy". First the explaining, I did read paragraph one. Second, I just thought I had the basic idea and ya, I get brain fog too...Not much different than others here. And yes, I am very compliant with my drug therapy...In fact, so compliant that I don't question when I am having a reaction...as in taking the steroids. I just figured steroids gave everyone heartburn.
Avatar m tn You don't need to go to anyone for medical help, but try to read the instructions more carefully. Over a longer term such a misunderstanding could cause problems. Usually the 50,000 unit dose is "once a week" for non-compliant patients who don't remember to take their pills.

1230422 tn?1301923560 Does anyone know how to set up a carb exchange diet? I used to follow one but that was over 20 years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn This can be done by carefully adjusting your insulin doses and combine with eating a low carb diet (the low carb will reduce your insulin requirements and thus also protect you from going too low or high). I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.
