Common Questions and Answers about Can i use byetta with insulin

byetta

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 3 months ago. I was started on byetta at the routine initial dose which was increased 2 months ago. I am only taking byetta, and no oral hypoglycemics (metformin, etc.)I have lost 29 lbs in that length of time, primarily due to decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. I understand that this is in all likelyhood due to delayed gastric emptying. My question: Is this ever going to get better???
Avatar f tn My former endrocrinologist put me on Byetta and I stayed with it for a few months. Even before I read about Byetta's possible link with pancreatis, I stopped the injections. Problem was that I would get severe nausea in the morning and often vomited. It was no fun feeling sick while driving or throwing up in a garbage can in my classroom(retired teacher). My new primary doctor eventually junked my diabetic orals and put me on Humalog and Lantus insulins.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that I am knowledgeable concerning Insulin risk, however, I believe that most people simply have the fear of having to use the needle. I know that was mine. I am not on Insulin but rather a medication called Byetta. I must use the needle to inject the med but I do not have to regulate it as I believe those who use Insulin do. I simply must take it twice a day. Additionally, Insulin does not get rid of Diabetes - it is simply another attempt to control it.
Avatar n tn Not enough information in your post. Safe by itself? Safe with other medications? Safe with insulin? Safe for, with, or what? Try a Google search on 'how safe is byetta' for about 116,000 hits.

Avatar m tn Like byetta or something. Also I read that crf causes insulin resistance. Any ideas?? His bs has been 350- 500 before adding fast insulin.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
Avatar n tn 125 mg). I also have diabetes. I have gained weight and cannot lose any. It is as if I have a tube in my belly pumping air.....it gets bigger and bigger. Ive had tests done to check my TSH..doc says its normal. I have other issues as well, loss of sex drive, hot and cold, sleepless, tingling in hands, memory issues, headaches. Why can I lose weight? This discussion is related to weight increased - TSH is high.
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar n tn Many people find they can significantly reduce the amount of insulin they are taking when taking Byetta. Of, course, I would consult with your doctor before making any changes. As far as 70 being a normal blood sugar, I think for most of us with diabetes, 70 feels pretty bad. It is not easy living with this disease and managing those lows can be the most trying and frightening experiences.
Avatar m tn - sleep analysis feritin , vitamin d , magnesium , electrolytes , cortisol etc . so i want to try metformin to lower insulin . can anyone tell me how much time does it take for metformin to effect the insulin level . and i dont see major sideeffect caused by metformin . what do u guys think . i was overweight , now i reduced my weight to the normal range with dieting and exercise still my insulin is high .
Avatar m tn ve developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day. But I really like Byetta, love the help it gives me with my sugar levels, and don't want to give it up. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Has the doctor taken you off of Byetta? I am on byetta and just found out I am pregnant. I am scared that something could go wrong. I have waited 7 years to concieved. Have you heard of any damaging side effects with Byetta? I am off now and only 4 weeks pregnant. I just know what to think.
Avatar m tn In july of this year was told to add Novalog 5 units after every meal and on sliding scale. I quickly gained anoather 25 lbs. and I feel miserable. I was on Byetta for 1 and a half and kept weight down and was put on oral meds and my levels was still in 400s thats when I start Lantus. I can't deal with the weight diet exercise does not help. What should I do.
Avatar f tn I started Metformin about 5 days ago, now that my glucose has risen to diabetic levels again. I enjoyed a "diabetic free" period for almost 7 months. I use to be an insulin diabetic along with oral medication. I lost alot of weight and the diabetes went into remission. I have noticed since I started taking Metformin that I have intestinal upsets. About two hours after I take it, I have diarrhea.
178107 tn?1315947630 I don't take anything with it, only the Byetta twice a day.
Avatar f tn Hello, I wanted to know what kind of diet pill I can take for losing weight?
Avatar n tn HELP!!! I have two teenaged boys ages 13 and almost 15 who are overweight. My oldest who is almost 15 is pre-diabetic. My husband is a newly diagnosed diabetic and has it under control with Byetta and diet. I have 4 other children ages 5 to 12 that are very thin. For the last 3 years, we have done the following to try and help their weight. Going to the gym before school 3-5 times a week - inlcuding a regular "boot camp class" and running at least a mile every time we go.
Avatar n tn As I understand it, Victoza delays gastric emptying thus causing the feeling of fullness and decreased appetite. I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds).
Avatar m tn I think that there has been a lot of discussion about Metformin and IR (that you might have missed) so people may have skipped over this post. Check out CoWriter's journal entries that have a ton of links. I did find this on The Liver Meeting ePoster series: 805.
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar m tn Making things interesting, I am also a diabetic, recently put on insulin. Prior to that, I had tried Byetta for the diabetes, which created a lot of nausea, with occasional dry heaves. It has been a year since then, but I am still experiencing nausea on a daily basis most of the time. It is quick--comes on fast, and passes quickly. It often happens in the morning and food helps a bit. Any time I am hungry, I am vulnerable. But, it can happen almost any time.
Avatar f tn Thank you for writing back to me. I am diagnosed with "insulin resistance" . I have tried Metformin, Byetta, and nothing is working. No insulin. My endocrinologist is going to put in a gluclose monitor on Tues for a week, And probably going to put me in the hospital for three days and I think it's "fasting" to see what happens and when. I am frustrated as I seem to check my blood sugar all the time. I am going to pour water out of my fingertips.
1546050 tn?1293688410 A week ago I went to the doctor due to experiencing menstrual cramps but no getting my period. (Just for background - I only menstruate when I am on the pill and I am currently not on it - therefore I do not menstruate without medication). She did a standard sugar test which came out as 4.4. She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc.
