I started the meds approximately a week ago. I was told the Phen would give me all of this energy and that the Metformin would keep me in the bathroom a lot until my body adjusted, but I have had neither really. The first couple of days on the Phen I had a boost of energy, which I loved, but it quickly faded. I am now constantly tired, no matter how much sleep I get. From what I've researched fatigue can be a side effect of both medicines.

I am not a doctor but a volunteer for JDRF. Having said that, whether a person is a child or adult with diabetes, the blood sugars should be maintained at the same levels. The numbers seem high. Are you seeing any symptoms such as excessive thirst, weightloss or frequent urination? These can be symptoms of Type 1 diabetes.
I would recommend that he or she be taken to her physician for testing as soon as possible.
Between December 2002 and October 2005, 189 non-diabetic patients were treated with Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba, of whom five developed type 1 DM (2.6%), three type 2 DM (1.6%) and one an indeterminate type of DM. Classical symptoms of DM were present in three patients who developed DM shortly after cessation of Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba. In the other patients, symptoms of DM were either indistinguishable from side effects caused by Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba or absent.
You can take mucinex, robitussin, vapor rub.. Tylenol for pain.. cough drops..
Im halfway done with my pills and dont have any refills, I read online that if you stop losing weight to stop taking them for a few days and restart them for a jumpstart, is it true? Im currently doing the Insanity dvd workouts 6 days a week(45-55min), they also say people lose an average of 20-30lbs with their 60 day workout program and I havent lost weight with that either (im on day 40), I need help! Anyone know what could be wrong with me or any tips on what I can do different??
By May I gained 3lbs, and Phen-phen (30mg) was added to my regimen. By mid-June I gained another 2lbs, and my doctor took me off the Levothyroxine. I am seeing a nutritionist, still on the Phen-phen, and a daily Vitamin B shots. By July 23rd, gained 2.4 lbs; no longer on Levothyroxine, still seeing the nutritionists and I am back to being extremely fatigue, lightheaded, chronic itchness, and not focused(it seems as my brain and mouth are at a disconnect). My life has been turned outside down.

I'm in the process of switching to a new dentist and the new patient form I had to fill out asked "Have you ever taken any combination of the drug known as 'fen-phen'. This includes phentermine (Adipex, Fastin, etc) and/or fenfluramine (Pondimin)." What does it matter if I have taken this? I haven't taken fen-phen, but I have and do occasionally take phentermine?
Thank you both for the info. Yesterday was only the 2nd day I was on the meds. I think I had an allergic reaction to the hydrochlorothizide. I had these bumps on my face and lip that looked like I had spider bites. I took benadryl and it went away. I am not going to take the hydrochlorothiazide today. If I don't get a reaction then I know it was that and I won't continue with it. If I still get it from the phentermine, I will stop taking it altogether.

Many of us can understand this situation -- either as the parent of a teen with DM or as adult who *used to be* a teen with DM ;-) It's a tough situation. Here's my take as an adult who has lived thru my teen years with DM and who has also witnessed my niece's teenage years. She also has had DM since she was very young.
While it may feel futile, I'd encourage you to find a quiet time with your son to have a short (short!) heart to heart with him.
t know much abt. it when my Dr. prescibed it for me. It does work for me if I take it twice a day. AND the Remeron, have read where it isn't a good thing either.! I will just keep on it and see how it works long term, but, am gaining weight and would like to slow down a bit. I have never been this big (unless pregnant) which doesn't count!lol
The B viatamins, which are a good thing, but they always made me hungry. I hope you will go by what your heart tells you abt. it tho.
