Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar m tn I have recently (about 6 weeks) been prescribed the new Betablocker Bystolic at 5mg/day instead of Coreg 6.125mg. Initially it has slightly reduced my heart palpitations which are less forceful, stopped some irregular or PACs and cut out the dreaming side effect of Coreg. However recently I have noticed that the color of my blood (taken to test blood sugar) is a distinct chocolate-brown color similar to whenever I have had to use Nitro tabs/patches for angina attacks.
Avatar f tn It is fairly new here in the US it was appoved by the fda in Dec of 07. I just started taking it today so I am not sure of side effects.

Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of Campral® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

214864 tn?1229715239 t drain the energy out of me. My Cardio doctor took me off of Bystolic because I was having chest pains - not sure if the Bystolic caused the chest pains or if it was caused from stress - I've been under a lot of stress lately. Let me tell you something about Bystolic. It is wonderful! It lowered my blood pressure and it didn't cause any major side effects. I was on Atenonol (sp?) and I had the worse side effects from taking it.

Avatar f tn Just curious if anyone who is taking bystolic experiences side effects all the time, or if it is a gradual onset after dosing, or what? My side effects always seem to hit me in the late afternoon, early evening. I take my dose anytime between 6am and 7am.
Avatar f tn This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar m tn I too have constant dizzy spells and am a very low dose of bystolic its so scary
Avatar m tn My doctor gave me 5mg samples of Bystolic for Heart Palpitations. He wants me to take 1 a day before bedtime. He told me that it will slow my heart rate down. Normally I get 1-2 palps daily. Slightly concerned because it can lower your blood pressure to. My blood pressure is normally around 125/80. Doc says my heart is generally in good shape but I do have some "leakage". Mild case of mitral valve prolapse and slightly large aortic valve.
Avatar m tn s office were done by a human. During my visit with my Doctor, he changed my BP medicine from 50MG of Atenolol to 5MG of Bystolic. Since a few days after the change, I often feel very flushed in the face, forgetful, confusion, seem to lose my train of thought more frequently, change in bowel movement.......With all that said, I guess my major question is are these some of the side effects when taking Bystolic? Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol?
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
Avatar n tn Particularly since the 10mg Bystolic tablets seemed to be the “sweet spot” in terms of tolerability. And the Bystolic worked very well for my BP. I am a 41 year old male.
Avatar m tn Atenolol made me worse too. I had a really bad period last year when I was in the ER 5 times and in the hospital once. Even had a couple of episodes of afib. My doctor suggested bystolic. It has worked very well for the last year, I have been very pleased with it. In fact, I didn't switch my insurance this year because the alternative company did not want to authorize the use of the bystolic (it's a lot more expensive).
Avatar n tn Hi, I had to stop taking Bystolic because of the symptoms you are having. I agree with NTB my blood pressure was dropping to low I fell a few times, mornings were the worse.
Avatar m tn I started Bystolic about 3 months ago and have been having increasing pain in the right side of my neck, my right shoulder, right shoulder blade area, and upper right arm. I am also getting weakness in my right arm and hand. If I turn my head in given direction the pain goes right to my right shoulger blade area. The doc gave me muscle relaxers but they did nothing. I also had an MRI done but it also showed nothing.
Avatar n tn Sweating can be caused by many things, one of them being that something is wrong with the heart esp. in a person with heart disease. Do you mean systolic (top #) or diastolic (bottom #)? There is no "bystolic." If you are concerned that something is wrong and you or a person you are caring for is sweating abnormally and has a heart condition, then call 911 and get them to the ER. Keep us informed.
343006 tn?1314446471 ve been on boty Verapamil and Bystolic but never together. I went off Verapamil because of the bloating, gas and constipation. Went off the Bystolic cause of the breathing problems it was causing. What is your condition that you need to be on a beta blocker or Calcium channel blocker? I went to anogther Doc who told me verapamil doesn't absorb hence the bloating so he put me on Diltiazem (Cardizem) 24 hour release capsules. Hoping it doesn't cause the intesinal issues.
Avatar m tn My Doctor game me a months worth of Bystolic, which is a beta blocker. My resting heart beat is @ 48-52 and up moving around it is @ 60. I work out two- three times a week, lifting and cardio. I am a very strong 55 yr old, in really good shape. A muscular 230 lbs. My worry is my heart beat is too slow for Bystolic. One of their warnings is not to take it if you have a slow heart beat, is mine too slow?
Avatar f tn s very frequenty ARE used as a front line treatment of hypertension, depending on the TYPE and severity of the HTN, along with the consideration of medical history and other meds. Everyone is different, so what would be advised for one pt could be totally contraindicated in another. Generally speaking though, in this class of meds, if it were ME, I would try others first. I've been on Inderal and Corgard in the past (seperately) for MVP and was very pleased with both meds.
