Common Questions and Answers about Byetta side effects pancreatitis

byetta

Avatar f tn ve been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues. For the last year I have had IBS and now my blood sugar is climbing, (only my fasting). Needless to say I have quit taking the injections because I'm afraid it has caused these changes.
Avatar f tn Ever since they released me from the hospital I have pain along the right side, it runs to my back. I can no longer sleep on my stomach nor on my right side. I have an appt with a gastroenterologist this week. I am very affraid, Should I be????
Avatar f tn I have been put on Lantus, which is working well, but now he (the doctor) has also put me on Byetta. I read all the warnings, and I asked the pharmacy, and they both told me the side effects are nausea, diahrrea, upset stomach and possible life threatening pancreatis. This bothers me, as my stomach upsets easily, but what I really want to know is how many of you have been on it and what your reactions were? Also, is the chance of being allergic to it very high?
Avatar n tn It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit). That is because it was made with saliva of the Gila monster. A lot of people who are not diabetics have been trying to get the prescription for it because it is also know to have a positive side effect (Helps people to quit smoking). Hope this helps you with your question.
475740 tn?1208262865 Ask about getting Byetta. I had the same problem with metformin. The byetta has controlled my blood sugars and my pcos.
Avatar m tn Taking a different drug to block the side effects of the first drug is likely to lead to a pyramid of drugs, side effects, and cost. Recommend you look at other ways to help manage your diabetes. Victoza is not for everyone. Eating a low carb diet can also be very helpful in diabetes management. I personally try to eat ketogenic diet. This diet is abundant in meat, eggs, vegetables (except starchy ones), and unprocessed oils.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of any damaging side effects with Byetta? I am off now and only 4 weeks pregnant. I just know what to think.
Avatar n tn Have you put this into your search engine for answers, put in Zanaflex and side effects, also the pharmacy may help they can put it into their PC there,I know there are side effects from a lot of meds and the warnings are usually on the label. I am getting some similar pain but mine is not so bad, it came on after I was prescribed Penicillin and took strong pain Meds and had dental work done , I am still a mystery but not taking any other prescribed meds that make me ill.
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar m tn As with all medication, discuss in detail with your doctor the potential risks and advantages of the prescribe medication, including side effects. Talk with the pharmacist too.
Avatar m tn I would like to know if these are side effects of the meds or if it is possible i have some disease that affects my joints/disks as well as raises my BP?
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
178107 tn?1315947630 Has anyone used Byetta? I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar n tn I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
422425 tn?1307992990 I have been on a huge round of steriods since the summer, I am afraid of the side effects, and want to go off of them. My doctors won't let me, so I am just looking for some advice and maybe a natural treatment for it. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind I am not a doctor. Medications all have side effects. You need to talk to your doctor and see if he could somehow cut your long list of meds down to a narrower field. also your trainer should also know that when you have what we call stomach flab, as you lose weight this skin takes longer to tighten because the weight of the fat cells causes sag initially makeing it harder to lose weight in our mid sections.
359937 tn?1220983851 I have constant Nasuea and pain. Now I am being sent to a speclalist in Chapel hill NC. I am scared of the ECRP b/c of the side effects.
Avatar m tn There are going to be side-effects with any med including aspirin, so don't be surprised if there is a down side. If you've been to GI's, have any of them been specialists in the pancreas? If not, find someone who is and talk to them. But before you do, make sure you personally have copies of all of your test results and read through them personally.
Avatar n tn I DID NOT REALIZE HOW MANY PEOPLE THIS EFFECTS. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I JUST HAD A WEEKS STAY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR PANCREATITIS. I DID EVERY TEST UNDER THE SUN, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE. I DO NOT DRINK, I DO NOT HAVE GALLSTONES, AND MY TRIGLYCERIDE LEVEL IS NORMAL. I'M LOST BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T HAVE TO EAT.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 3 months ago. I was started on byetta at the routine initial dose which was increased 2 months ago. I am only taking byetta, and no oral hypoglycemics (metformin, etc.)I have lost 29 lbs in that length of time, primarily due to decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. I understand that this is in all likelyhood due to delayed gastric emptying. My question: Is this ever going to get better???
Avatar m tn Hi there, Antiepileptics should be taken for at least 2-3 years after a seizure attack to prevent a repeat attack. Side effects are common with any medication. There are side effects of this drug also. It may not be necessary that these side effects may be experienced by all. Increased appetite, weight gain, thrombocytopenia, skin rashes, liver disorders, acne, pancreatitis etc.are few of the side effects.
Avatar m tn If all your labs (liver and pancreatic enzymes) are nornal, it would be very unusual for this to be pancreatitis. Typically the only time pancreatitis shows up and the enzymes levels show 'normal' levels is when someone progresses from acute to chronic pancreatitis. So if this hasn't been a condition that's happened several times in a couple of years, the chances of it being pancreatitis is low. All of the PPIs do not act the same nor do they have the same side-effects.
194838 tn?1303428544 I would also like to know if I should still take my diabetic meds as usual ,which are metformin and byetta? and should I skip breakfast on the morning of the test?. Thankyou for any help or advice you can give me.
Avatar n tn I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.
